To think slippers are for old people?

lesley33 · 20/03/2012 13:35

I am 47. When I was younger no-one wore slippers once they were no longer kids. Suddenly in the last 5 years all my friends have slippers. Some of them even bring them when they visit friends so as be "more comfortable". FFS thats what my gran did when she is in her 70's and 80's!

Both DP and I are united on this. Slippers are for old people. We are not old and so thus will NOT have slippers.

So AIBU

(And I am being serious. Both DP and I do think this).

Of course you can join shew. After all in true AIBU fashion I am ignoring the many many posters who say IABU and only linking up with those who agree with me Smile

Thanks lesley.

Perhaps you'll join me for a Wine . We could put our feet up on the coffee table and let our toes do the talking.

lesley33 · 20/03/2012 17:19

I still have my shoes on, but I'll accept the wine thanks.

What shoes in the house? That's all wrong too!

Unfortunately, it seems you are not the person who I thought you were. I might have to reconsider joining the gang! Jin, you don't wear shoes in the house do you?

bamboobutton · 20/03/2012 17:30

i have these celtic ones.
they look like shite but they keep my blocks of ice feet nice and warm and don't make my feet feel sweaty and cold lke synthetic slippers do.

plus i have a mortons neuroma so going bare foot is agony, even on carpet.

bamboobutton · 20/03/2012 17:30

i forgot! YABU.

Jins · 20/03/2012 17:31

No I don't wear shoes in the house. Flipflops or ...crocs :)

shewhowines · 20/03/2012 17:33

No! No! No! - bare feet or socks only.

shewhowines · 20/03/2012 17:34

head in hands I mean

PuffPants · 20/03/2012 17:35

My PILS bring their fugly slippers with them when they come to stay with us. I hate it. Wouldn't mind if they were nice ones but they are those old lady ones that look like boots - sheepskin with a zip over the top - eeugh, they look like standard issue care home footwear.

I also hate seeing them by my front door as it makes me think they have moved in - which would kill me - I don't want them making themselves quite so comfortable.

What's wrong with just socks?

Jins · 20/03/2012 17:37

Yeah bare feet most of the time. Rarely socks

shewhowines · 20/03/2012 17:37

Puff - Socks!!!!!! Yes! Will you drink Wine with me?

Jins · 20/03/2012 17:38

Do you remember those folding slippers that used to come in a little purse

Jins · 20/03/2012 17:39

My socks are too good for house use. Or indeed any use. They are hand knitted by myself :)

shewhowines · 20/03/2012 17:40

Would it be bullying Lesley, if Puff, Jins and myself to create a sub gang and don't let lesley join due her habit of WEARING SHOES?

I never wore them before I mioved to this house, butit's that cold that my feet go completely numb within a few minutes if I don't wear them.

The joys of living rural I suppose

lesley33 · 20/03/2012 17:43

Yes shew it would be bullying Hmm. And on my thread too!

Hope - It is just a memory from my childhood, of only old people wearing slippers. They were all identical but came in a choice of navy, black or burgundy. The old ladies might perhaps have a bit of gold embroidery on theirs. Definitely an "old" thing.

lesley33 · 20/03/2012 17:46

Hope - You could say that about lots of things.

Bedjackets are just indoor jackets, why is that old?
Rugs over your knee when you are outside are just like having blankets over you in bed, why is that old?
etc.

Slippers are old because their association is with old people. But there is a clear age divide on this thread.

I might have been known to occasionally all the time put a rug over my knee while enjoying outdoor pursuits enduring bloody football matches/tournaments

lesley33 · 20/03/2012 17:53

Oh Shew
