i was on a family day out on a steam train and on the way home an infirm old man got on with his carer. she left shortly after and he was on his own in his wheelchair with me and my dh and dc's. this journey was about an hour long and ds being cranky started to cry. and the old man turned to him and shouted at him to be quiet boy. at this i told him to shut the fuck up and a list of words i cant mention here. dh backed me up although i was telling a friend later she said he was ok too this as he was old, we are now not speaking cause of this. AIBU for doing that to an elderly person.

Oh you can't say Jeezarse, OP doesn't like blaspheming. But she'd rather hear 'Christ' than cunt or fuck.

Bearing in mind Stratters, the OP considers "old git" to constitute a list of unmentionable words....

t0lk13n · 19/03/2012 17:09

How common of you!

Stratters · 19/03/2012 17:11

S'true that Vivi.

I take it the list of unmentionables never materialised? I went to see my Mama like a good Stratters, even though I may have missed vitally important MN stuff.

TheBigJessie · 19/03/2012 17:13

No list... Sad

Maybe she called him an antidisestablishmentarianist. That's pretty unmentionable on MN; reason being it's hard to spell.

Agincourt · 19/03/2012 17:19

jesus christ

then again, you might be all be scottish, welsh or irish but i believe the same rules apply

Stratters · 19/03/2012 17:35

Not really Agin. We used to be like that but the Jeremy Viles are breeding like craaaazy. :(

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 19/03/2012 17:36

HelenFellowes33 - if you behave like this, and use this sort of language in front of your child, he WILL learn to do the same.

Do you really want to be called into school, in a few years time, to learn that your child has told the teacher to 'Shut the fuck up, you old git', because the teacher has told him off in class?

Do you want your child to think that it is OK to gang up on, and verbally abuse vulnerable people? If he learns this 'no-one disrespects me or mine, and I will do the same if someone speaks to me like this again' attitude from you, and applies that when he's a teenager out with his mates, and decides that some OAP has 'disrespected' him, he will react with the same sort of aggression you are teaching him (by incidents like the one in your OP), only probably worse - and he could end up in real trouble. Is that what you want for him?

Stratters · 19/03/2012 17:38

She will be proud of him. First kid in the class to get an ASBO, innit. :(

mynewpassion · 19/03/2012 17:39

Did you apologize to your kids for swearing in front of them? Because they don't deserve to be treated to swearing loudly. If you believe that the old man shouldn't your "family" that way, why is it alright for you to treat your kids that way?

Angelico · 19/03/2012 17:40

Agreeing with everyone else - he should not have shouted at a crying child but you definitely should not have given him a torrent of abuse.

TiggyD · 19/03/2012 17:41

OP is Jeremy Kyle bait.

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 19/03/2012 17:41

And when the lad loses his Golden Time for swearing at his teacher, I wonder how HelenFellowes is going to react?

Will she tell her son that his behaviour was unacceptable, and that she backs the teacher up in imposing this sanction - or will she and her dh storm up to the school and rant/shout/swear at the teacher - 'because no-one treats my family like that'??

LadyBeagleEyes · 19/03/2012 17:42

Do you think we could get this to a thousand posts with 999 UABUs.
Would that be an MN record?

crashdoll · 19/03/2012 17:45

YABU (just wanted to help LadyBeagle reach her target)

Shutupanddrive · 19/03/2012 17:46

Yabvvvvu!!!
And if I were you I would namechange! Change of attitude might help too!

ChazsBrilliantAttitude · 19/03/2012 17:47

I reckon she called him a "Tory Voting Investment Banker" or maybe (deep breath) "Gideon"
