AIBU to think "...but I can't drive" is a rubbish excuse

Over and again on threads where a DH is being some kind of a nob, the OP responds to excellent advice by saying, "I can't go anywhere/get a job/etc because I can't drive."

Unless you have a disability or medical condition that stops you, then WHY NOT? You are making yourself a victim, if you are dependent on your DH for transport.

If my kids want to learn to drive they can do so when they get jobs. No way could we fork out for lessons for 3! And we dont own a car anyhow.

ooh what about me then. I live where Dh was born and bred. I come from a town. He learned straight away, I had no need to so am only learning now that there is a need (and that we can finally just about afford it). I didn't know the score [grin

I moved straight from living with abusive parents, to a relationship which very quickly became abusive at 19 years old. I was then pregnant within a month. I wasn't allowed to learn to drive. I was isolated and had immense trouble fleeing to a refuge with no car to load all my things into. sometimes life doesn't follow a plan. YABU
