Was it that odd, or is MiL overracting?

Had some bad news today and I was very upset the 2 older Dcs where on play dates. So it was just me, Dh and Dd2. Dd2 was asleep when it happened so it was just me and Dh. We curled up on the sofa and after crying all over him I fell asleep on him.
Was woken up an hour later by MIL who just lets herself in. She walked in and saw me still asleep on Dh at this point. She immediately jumped into a lecture on how this should not be done at all and using my Dh as a bed was direspectful towards him. Dh said he didn't mind and said she shouldn't of woken me up. (This is because I haven't been sleeping alot recently but MIL doesn't know this and if I'd of known she was coming I'd of tried to stay awake) MiL wasn't happy at this and asked where the Dcs where. Told her the 2 Dcs where out with their friends. She said I was awful mother and what if something had happened to the Dcs while i was asleep and they needed taking care of. I said that Dh would of woken me up plus Dh could of taken care of them otherwise. MiL pulled a face and then walked upstairs woke Dd2 , came down told me I needed to 'get cleaning' rather than laze around sleeping all day.
Dh got grumpy at this told her to leave and that she didn't know what I did for my family and that if it wasn't for me there was not way he would be able to do it all, she then left.
So was it that odd or am I the only one who has a very comfy Dh. :o

Been following this thread and shall continue to, hence shameless

Well done on the lock changing Midnight

Good luck with the next stage, whatever it may be.

RabidEchidna · 17/03/2012 18:56

TAKE THE KEY AWAY FROM THE BITCH AND DO IT FAST

RabidEchidna · 17/03/2012 18:57

ooops missed you had changed the locks, WELL DONE

shockers · 17/03/2012 19:27

Did your PIL give your DH the house before he met you? I'm struggling to think of a situation in which I would be so disrespectful to my Son's wife and the Mother of my Grandchildren (if I had any yet). Is there some way in her twistedness that she thinks you have to earn your keep in 'his' house? Or does she somehow think it's hers?

Merran · 17/03/2012 19:32

Hope it goes well OP.

shebird · 17/03/2012 20:14

Your MIL sounds like my sisters nightmare MIL. She just walks in to their whenever she likes at and just starts pottering about and cleaning. I wish she had your courage to change the locks but unfortunately her DP isn't as so supportive. Good luck :)

ifeelloved · 17/03/2012 20:25

Was also hoping for an update Grin

MrsBeakman · 17/03/2012 22:32

Actually I might forgive someone letting themselves in if they were going to do my cleaning for me! :o

PineappleBed · 17/03/2012 22:45

PMSL at your MIL trying to enforce a "2 foot apart at all times" rule in your own home! Madness hamsters!

I cannot WAIT to hear what she does when she discovers the changed locks

FannyFifer · 17/03/2012 22:45

lurks

grobagsforever · 18/03/2012 09:27

Lurks shamelessly

JaxTellerIsMyFriend · 18/03/2012 09:38

oh my god! What a horrid woman. It is your house, what a cow she is.

You need to put your foot down regarding this. I see the locks have been changed and a chain put on the door. Teehee. Grin

Dont ever give her a key again. There is no need. Flowers/plants can be watered enough so that there is no need to have someone in to do it on holiday and burglar alarms were invented so you dont need outlaws popping in and rummaging through your stuff.

Good luck OP. Both outlaws sound a nightmare.

Glittertwins · 18/03/2012 10:03

I thought my mil was a bit loopy but yours wins hands down. I was also yelling "change the locks" so happy to see you did.
We had to change ours for unreplicatable ones after the cleaner we sacked refused to give them back.

zipzap · 18/03/2012 12:59

Waiting here to find out what happens too.

Also want to know what op is going to tell mil about why the keys have changed - that they lost one of their old ones or to stop mil from letting herself in whenever she wants...

Merran · 18/03/2012 17:03

Her reaction may be even more highly charged as its 'Mother's Day', her day of course - nothing to do with you! :o)

Any news?

EllenParsons · 18/03/2012 18:39

Was absolutely gobsmacked by your OP... she sounds like such a piece of work, one of the worst MILs I have heard about. Glad you have changed the locks and hope you are feeling better!

blubberyboo · 18/03/2012 18:47

change the locks!!!! she has prob made a copy of the key anyway cos she sounds like a nutter
she'll get some shock when the key doesn't work next time

warthog · 18/03/2012 18:48

your fil told your dh to stop doing everything YOU tell him and start doing everything his mum tells him??? oh the irony.

Chocolategirl3 · 18/03/2012 21:34

Has the crazy lady not been round to find out why her DS didnt visit her on Mothers Day (presuming he didn't go of course)????

Midnightmoon · 18/03/2012 21:39

There is no way that she could think this is her house. Me and Dh bought the land and built our house on it. We borrowed money from the bank and my nanna and called in personal favours for it none off which involved taking anything from her or FIL.

Dh didn't go around there and she hasn't been round yet. I imagine she is still thinking he will come or something, or she will be here tomorrow

Then she is possibly more barmy than I had originally thought!

I have a relative who has similar delusions of 'best household practise'. Sadly, we only meet under duress at weddings and such these days. Tis a shame, but not my problem any longer, thank goodness.

SaggyOldClothCatPuss · 18/03/2012 22:22

I feel really mean, waiting for the latest installment of your MIL, and I'm sorry to be so voyeuristic, but it's gripping! I have to know what happens when she comes round.

pumpkinsweetie · 18/03/2012 22:29

I have an awful mil too so i know how u feel. Relieve her of the key pronto
