Was it that odd, or is MiL overracting?

Had some bad news today and I was very upset the 2 older Dcs where on play dates. So it was just me, Dh and Dd2. Dd2 was asleep when it happened so it was just me and Dh. We curled up on the sofa and after crying all over him I fell asleep on him.
Was woken up an hour later by MIL who just lets herself in. She walked in and saw me still asleep on Dh at this point. She immediately jumped into a lecture on how this should not be done at all and using my Dh as a bed was direspectful towards him. Dh said he didn't mind and said she shouldn't of woken me up. (This is because I haven't been sleeping alot recently but MIL doesn't know this and if I'd of known she was coming I'd of tried to stay awake) MiL wasn't happy at this and asked where the Dcs where. Told her the 2 Dcs where out with their friends. She said I was awful mother and what if something had happened to the Dcs while i was asleep and they needed taking care of. I said that Dh would of woken me up plus Dh could of taken care of them otherwise. MiL pulled a face and then walked upstairs woke Dd2 , came down told me I needed to 'get cleaning' rather than laze around sleeping all day.
Dh got grumpy at this told her to leave and that she didn't know what I did for my family and that if it wasn't for me there was not way he would be able to do it all, she then left.
So was it that odd or am I the only one who has a very comfy Dh. :o

Holy..... change the locks!

francis1978 · 14/03/2012 10:35

Your MIL obviously got very jelous to see you close to her son like that.
I would make he give notice when she wants to come round.
I understand anyone's frustrations when it comes to the Mil. Lol.
I'm annoyed for you!

MrsBeakman · 14/03/2012 12:08

Yes please do update about what happens when she finds out. Are you going to tell her or let her find out?

OTheHugeManatee · 14/03/2012 13:33

Well done for changing the locks. Please post an update on what she does when she finds out.

Maybe security grilles on the ground floor windows too? Hmm Grin

bleedingheart · 14/03/2012 14:11

She was so jealous to see your intimacy that she decided to wake up your child and berate your cleaning in order to make herself feel better ("but I clean my house all the time and would never lean on my H, why doesn't my son love me more than MidnightMoon?!" etc). What a strange and sad woman!
You have the patience of a saint!

Midnightmoon · 14/03/2012 21:28

Okay I will update when she finds out.
I have left the decision to Dh cause its his mum but at the moment he is not telling her.
Also she can't get into the back garden unless gets over a barbed wire fence ,wades through the river and then climbs our 5 foot fence. (Though it would be funny to watch :o )

By the sounds of things, I wouldn´t put it past herGrin

Or calling the police because the locks have been changedShock

ifeelloved · 15/03/2012 07:41

Yay! Shall we have a sweepstake? I'm going for Saturday morning!

Birnamwood · 15/03/2012 08:19

Watching this thread with excitement for when mil finds out :)

MrsBeakman · 15/03/2012 10:56

ha ha. I wonder if she will get tangled up in the barbed wire, or whether she will conquer that but fall into the river, or whether it will be the 5 foot fence that will defeat her!

Jins · 15/03/2012 11:01

What a nightmare MIL you have. I thought mine was bad but she's got a lot of work to do to catch up

ElizabethDarcy · 15/03/2012 11:27

One thing caught my eye... YOU HAVE A RIVER IN YOUR GARDEN!!! Envy

Seriously though - well done on the changed locks and for being united. Ensure it's kept up though - family relations can be so manipulative at times... the guilt trips etc. Your MIL has deep issues. Your FIL is her puppet.

ElizabethDarcy · 15/03/2012 11:28

ps: Crocodiles love rivers... Wink

Hebiegebies · 15/03/2012 13:26

Please instal CCTV cameras and link to Utube!

Sorry, forgot

ProbablyJustGas · 15/03/2012 13:57

Well done changing the locks. You aren't the only one that has had to do this. My MiL pulled crap exactly like this with me and DH, and we had to do the same thing - we moved house and just didn't hand anyone in the family a new set of spare keys. She has hinted that she'd like one and we just politely ignore it. Grin

However, it took direct confrontation for us to impress that she cannot just waltz over to said home whenever the heck she likes without phoning, expect a cup of tea, criticize the housekeeping, and "just have a wee visit" with my DSD right when we are putting her to bed. Things have gotten marginally better since we had it out, though. Hopefully things will get better with your MiL too - it helps to have your DP on your side!

msrisotto · 15/03/2012 19:08

Good moves moon, she sounds like erm....a handful....

Midnightmoon · 15/03/2012 20:27

ElizabethDarcy - I don't hav a river in my garden, it is outside the fence. Though the lady who owns the land lets us use the river plus her fields as she doesn't use them anymore. :o

Wow, you've gone for the not telling approach.

I cannot wait to hear what happens...beware of any local shopkeepers talking about old women buying chest waders, step ladders and wire cutters!

SaggyOldClothCatPuss · 15/03/2012 20:45

What you really need is CCTV trained on the front door so that you can SEE the expression on her face when she finds out her key doesn't work! I'd pay good money to see that!

Kayzr · 15/03/2012 20:47

Yes I agree with Saggy!!

Please film her face it will be so so funny. Grin

ElizabethDarcy · 16/03/2012 08:35

Midnightmoon... hehe that's lovely!

MrsBeakman · 16/03/2012 10:34

She might look like this when she finds out.

MrsBeakman · 17/03/2012 17:12

Any news?
