Was it that odd, or is MiL overracting?

Had some bad news today and I was very upset the 2 older Dcs where on play dates. So it was just me, Dh and Dd2. Dd2 was asleep when it happened so it was just me and Dh. We curled up on the sofa and after crying all over him I fell asleep on him.
Was woken up an hour later by MIL who just lets herself in. She walked in and saw me still asleep on Dh at this point. She immediately jumped into a lecture on how this should not be done at all and using my Dh as a bed was direspectful towards him. Dh said he didn't mind and said she shouldn't of woken me up. (This is because I haven't been sleeping alot recently but MIL doesn't know this and if I'd of known she was coming I'd of tried to stay awake) MiL wasn't happy at this and asked where the Dcs where. Told her the 2 Dcs where out with their friends. She said I was awful mother and what if something had happened to the Dcs while i was asleep and they needed taking care of. I said that Dh would of woken me up plus Dh could of taken care of them otherwise. MiL pulled a face and then walked upstairs woke Dd2 , came down told me I needed to 'get cleaning' rather than laze around sleeping all day.
Dh got grumpy at this told her to leave and that she didn't know what I did for my family and that if it wasn't for me there was not way he would be able to do it all, she then left.
So was it that odd or am I the only one who has a very comfy Dh. :o

Change locks, asap. Lovely husband :)

RuleBritannia · 11/03/2012 20:03

I think the locks should be changed because, if the MIL knows that she has to give her key back, she might have a copy made first.

thebody · 11/03/2012 20:06

Omg!!!! Change your locks and don't open the door as she's mad!!!

Eglu · 11/03/2012 20:32

What a bitch. How dare she walk into your house uninvited, and tell you what you should and shouldn't be doing.

strictlycomedancingdiva · 11/03/2012 20:36

I'm sorry that you've had some bad news today.

I too, am of the change the locks opinion.

Bearcrumble · 11/03/2012 20:40

Sorry about your bad news.

Agree with everyone who said she's a beast and to change the locks. PIL sounds rubbish as well. Glad you have a nice husband!

amothersplaceisinthewrong · 11/03/2012 20:45

Change the locks, and get caller ID on the phone.....

diddl · 11/03/2012 20:47

Is she ill?

This must be one of the strangest things I´ve ever read.

You shouldn´t sleep on your husband-isn´t that up to him?

And you shouldn´t sleep in case your sleeping & with friends children need you?

Confused
MeltedChocolate · 11/03/2012 20:53

Er.... what if you had been having a little sexy time??! I would never walk into someone's house if I was not instructed to do so! Shock

Midnightmoon · 11/03/2012 22:05

Thanks all.
I do wonder that if she had caught us having sexy time what on earth she would of said.
No she is not ill, just odd.
Okay if you want another tale from MiL history.
She invited us for sunday lunch at hers months ago. We said No thank you as Dd had a party and Dh was working nights so wouldn't be up till 3.
At 1 she came round knocked on the door till I opened up (I had too incase she woke Dh)
She went into the kitchen and put the chicken breast from the freezer in the oven and said we would have lunch here. She wouldn't go when I asked as 'its Dhs house not mine' she then turned the radio on full. Dh came down like an angry bear and she blamed my Ds for the music. FiL then came round and they ate the chicken in the kitchen while the rest of us where in the other room. We didn't talk to her for a week so she told the SiLs that we where trying to take there place in the will and had got annoyed when they said No.
They retracted their comment when Dh spoke to them again

Your dh should have slung them out of the house. If my mil said to me that it's dh's house, she'd be saying it from the middle of the road, where I'd have thrown her, head first!

Why do you still have anything to do with these people?

breatheslowly · 11/03/2012 22:13

They sound very odd. Obviously not great for you (I'm sorry you have to put up with them), but do keep the stories coming for the rest of us.

MsF1t · 11/03/2012 22:14

Kill her with fire. It's the only way.

ledkr · 11/03/2012 22:17

To be honest it wouldnt have mattered if you were naked, picking your nose whilst using a vibrator, its your house and its none of her fucking business whet you do in it whatsoever. Why is she marching upstairs and waking your child? How dare she. Get that key and take control of your own lives.

2rebecca · 11/03/2012 22:57

You do sound very passive to have not started shouting at her and threw her out bodily when she said it wasn't your house. No way would someone invite themselves to my house and start cooking dinner when I had told them we weren't socialising that day and were lying in.
Ignoring them in your house is silly. They should have been TOLD to leave.

pictish · 11/03/2012 23:04

Oh my actual very completely fucking GOD!

She is psychotic!!!!

Fuck changing the locks - move house!

Teeb · 11/03/2012 23:07

I have no words.

Do you/your dh actually want to maintain a relationship with these people? Or do you just put up with them out of a strange sense of duty?

She is actually just...mental.

pictish · 11/03/2012 23:07

Being serious for a moment though - it's not on. It's so very very deeply not on!
Change the locks asap, and take control of this situation because that woman has some warped sense of entitlement that is grossly inappropriate, and needs to be halted in her tracks.

She is jealous of you...which is weird, and she is quite determined to show you who is boss - IN YOUR OWN HOUSE!

This is not the behaviour of a reasonable person!

MrsBeakman · 11/03/2012 23:09

Blimey. You are amazingly tolerant of your MILs interefering ways. (Going by the first page which is all i've skimmed read so far.) Most people would be fecking livid at such behaviour. I almost wondered if this was a wind up. Surely no one would put up with that sort of behaviour i thought.

MrsBeakman · 11/03/2012 23:14

:o Just read the bit about her walking into your house and putting chicken in your oven when you had said you didn;t want to go to her house for lunch. Absolutely bonkers behaviour. :o Honestly i think you deserve some sort of daughter in law award for putting up with what you do. Tell us some more MIL anecdotes so we can roar with laughter give friendly advice. I would be livid.

BagofHolly · 11/03/2012 23:15

I'm wondering what's next though: "AIBU? My MIL ate my kitten/stole my pants and sold them on the Internet/has subletted our house to a travelling circus/got my baby a tattoo" etc.

How far does she ACTUALLY have to go?

MrsBeakman · 11/03/2012 23:16

It's not funny really of course. It's just that her behaviour is so outlandish. Please change the locks!

BagofHolly · 11/03/2012 23:18

It's SUCH a power thing! If she were a dog, she would wee on your sofa to mark her patch. (Are your scatter cushions damp?!Grin)

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 11/03/2012 23:18

Change the locks and send her a copy of this thread!

SaggyOldClothCatPuss · 11/03/2012 23:21

If she was a dog, she would be dry humping you from behind to show her dominance! Confused
