To be a bit disappointed in Kate Middleton?

When visiting Fortnums, apparently she talked about what a struggle it is to make tea properly with "dried tea leaves". For someone who has not ever worked full time, had dependents or any particular constraints apart from media interest, I thought she might be a bit more interesting and competent. She still seems to spend her time giggline and hair flicking and being generally self conscious.

pmsl @ a duchess to be proud of

TotemPole · 03/03/2012 15:24

It was a revenant comment for the circumstance she was in at that time.

LadyWithEDS, that typo made me chuckle, I assume you meant relevant?

From wiki:

A revenant is a visible ghost or animated corpse that was believed to return from the grave to terrorize the living.

LadyWithEDS · 03/03/2012 15:27

Grin iPad predictive text and my dyslexic attempts at spelling. Yes relevant!

TotemPole · 03/03/2012 15:29

I suspect they planned the timing of the wedding to not clash with the jubilee and the olympics.

I also think they will careful about the timing of babies, so we won't hear any announcements until after the olympics have finished.

Marriedinwhite, don't suppose you have a daughter who's recently married into royalty have you?

Is her name Katherine by any chance?

Westcountry, if you are pregnant it may be a long time before you see your turret again. And it may well not look as you remember it.

SoupDragon · 03/03/2012 16:16

How would any of you now whether she is dull or not?

noddyholder · 03/03/2012 16:19

Well we wouldn't but its the same as saying she is lovely etc

SoupDragon · 03/03/2012 16:25

I think she comes across as being perfectly normal (interest-wise) rather than dull. Realistically she isn't going to be galloping about whooping and slapping her thigh during public engagements. Particularly rather dull public engagements with one's MIL and GMIL.

marriedinwhite · 03/03/2012 16:47

SoupDragon just like Fergie and look what happened then.

sensuallettuce · 03/03/2012 16:48

Leave her alone I love her :)

LadyWithEDS · 03/03/2012 16:48

Soup, look where that tyoe of behaviour got Fergie!

redexpat · 03/03/2012 17:04

I thought she worked full time when she worked as a buyer for Oasis. I think you're just a bit mean really.

Want2bSupermum · 03/03/2012 17:10

More to the point... she is making tea! I would have thought she would have tea made for her.

Portofino · 03/03/2012 17:12

She could have married any old hooray Henry Banker type and had a perfectly lovely life with no money worries and no stress. I wouldn't want her future life for my dd. Never being able to say what you think in public, being followed about by photographers, MNetters/general public speculating endlessly about what you say/don't say/what you wear/when will you be up-duffed etc etc.

Mrsjay · 03/03/2012 17:14

I think people are looking for something to pick on what do people expect of a royal at a do like this ? ive met 2 royals and yes its all very polite and a bit dull but really what else should they be doing ? I met princess Diana who was extremley dull and looked bored out her tree ,

seeker · 03/03/2012 17:18

My heart bleeds for her!

Rezolution · 03/03/2012 17:27

"I wouldn't want her future life for my dd." Well said, Portofino. But I supposed Carol Middleton does not see it like that, does she?
I feel Kate is doing her best, and we can't ask any more than that, can we?

seeker · 03/03/2012 17:33

You wouldn't want you daughter to have a life of luxury at someone else's expense? No, neither would I. I have higher ambitions for my dd than that.

BookFairy · 03/03/2012 17:39

Interesting opinions. From all I know of her, ie. when I can't find the remote fast enough, she is looks like she could do with getting a sandwich or 10 down her neck. How do people know she's lovely? Surely it's in her job description to smile at poor/sick people, regardless of her true feelings?

luasgirl · 03/03/2012 17:53

There's just not much to her but I don't think the majority would like some-one who has something to say, that's the sad thing. She is extremely Stepford. I'm laughing here at posters saying 'She's beautiful' in her defence, come on, it's what's behind the eyes that matters. She will never put a foot wrong, never rock the boat but never make a difference. At the wedding, she was not interested at all in the little flower-girl bridesmaids; no basic warmth there. Am really cynical about her. Very polite but no heart, no nature for people. For what it's worth, William is no great shakes either.

troisgarcons · 03/03/2012 17:59

I don't ever remember the Queen having an opinion on anything (loose tea leaves or otherwise) Catherine will be Queen one day - therefore she should keep her opinion on loose leaves to herself - lest she be judged.

Her 'job' is to never put a foot wrong and breed babies.

BartletForAmerica · 03/03/2012 18:11

"At the wedding, she was not interested at all in the little flower-girl bridesmaids; no basic warmth there. Am really cynical about her. Very polite but no heart, no nature for people. "

I remember her bending down to speak to one of them in the balcony. I assume you were there to confirm that she didn't speak to them at all throughout the day! What were you expecting her to do?

Portofino · 03/03/2012 18:12

I read recently Andrew Marr's Diamond Queen - it was quite illuminating about what the Queen actually does, and the part she has played in recent history. Interestingly he started out with a very republican viewpoint.

Nancy66 · 03/03/2012 18:16

ha ha - all these people who feel they know her and her personality 'cos they watched the wedding...!

the public loved Diana and she was a dimwitted, husband shagging psycho
