to think that this way of labelling toilets in a pub is just wrong

went to a new pub the other day. Headed off to the toilets to be confronted with one door saying "Men" and the other saying "Not Men"

i mean... you're either a man or you're defined by not being one.

Meant to remark on it to the chap behind the bar but decided I'd probably had one too many girly shandies.

OP posts:
SydSaid · 25/02/2012 20:35

I wouldn't have an issue with it. I'm not a man and I'm happy to be defined as such.

picnicbasketcase · 25/02/2012 20:38

It would make me Hmm a bit, but it's that offensive - it's not like it says Cool Dudes and Whining Bitches or something.

picnicbasketcase · 25/02/2012 20:39

That should say 'it's NOT that offensive' Blush

Aribura · 25/02/2012 20:40

Right on sister, we're wymyn thesedays.

ifeellove · 25/02/2012 20:43

I can't be doing with any humorous lame variations on toilet labeling

MrsTerryPratchett · 25/02/2012 20:44

YANBU.

FaithHopeAndKevin · 25/02/2012 20:44

Any toilet labelling scheme (especially somewhere that serves alcohol) that requires thought is Not Nice.

If I've had a few I will have no idea if I'm a roe or a buck, even having to remember if I'm supposed to be wearing a skirt is beyond me sometimes.

Wheresmycaffeinedrip · 25/02/2012 20:45

It wouldn't bother me. I'd actually find it quite amusing and makes a change from the usual signs. I'm sure it was probably done in humor rather than implying women r an inferior species or anything like that. Fwiw I've also seen them labeled cocks and hens :o

innerstrength · 25/02/2012 20:52

It's funny. Come on, it is. Sense of humour?? Grin Grin

Wheresmycaffeinedrip · 25/02/2012 20:53

Thanks inner strength was starting to think I was a bit too easily amused til you posted :o

VickityBoo · 25/02/2012 20:55

Aaaawwww it's probably just a bit of fun.

catgirl1976 · 25/02/2012 20:55

Can we say loo please?

Not the 't' word

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 25/02/2012 20:57

It would confuse my 12 yo old DS (not that I take him into pubs. Well maybe a Wetherspoons Family friendly pub)

"Ooh, Men. Not Men... Well I'm not a man, I'm a boy, soooo"

He'd run out a damn site more sharpish than he walked in Grin

midoriway · 25/02/2012 20:57

Pub toilets in rural Tasmania marked drip dry and shake dry had me stumped for some time.

squeakytoy · 25/02/2012 20:57

what is wrong with the word toilet? Confused

itsybitsy08 · 25/02/2012 20:58

Faithhopeandkevin Grin

I have never stood whilst intoxicated in front of the toilet doors pondering which one I was, oh no. And picked the wrong one. Oh no I didn't.

[shame]

BertieBotts · 25/02/2012 20:58

Urgh, no, I think it's horrible!

catgirl1976 · 25/02/2012 20:59

It's a horrible word :(

RobinSparkles · 25/02/2012 21:01

I think I'd find it quite funny too.

And...

TOILET TOILET TOILET!!!!

[childish] Grin

JasperJohns · 25/02/2012 21:01

I think it's quite funny.

Yabu to use 'toilet' though. Banned word in this house.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 25/02/2012 21:08

whay about cludge or cludgie (My spelling might not be right)

Lovely Glaswegian words.

"Ahm awae te thu cludge"

Salmotrutta · 25/02/2012 21:08

According to DeBrett's (Debrett's?) Etiquette guide, which I browsed through once at a poncey friend's house, using the word "toilet" is vulgar/common Grin
One is supposed to say WC or loo.

It's also not on to say "scent" instead of perfume or refer to a napkin as a serviette.

I think "sweet" instead of pudding or dessert is also cnsidered vulgar.

chipmunksex · 25/02/2012 21:08

The irish ones used to have me all Confused, as do the gender symbols ones after a few pints.

But yes I do think it's a bit offensive that they consider Male to be the default, but they probably didn't think it through.

Salmotrutta · 25/02/2012 21:10

considered.

I hate humorous door signs.

quirrelquarrel · 25/02/2012 21:11

It's not just a bit of fun. Bliddy hell!
