to think Tesco should fucking well PAY THEIR STAFF?

I know, I know, there have been threads about it already.

But this is so rage-inducing, I want THE WHOLE OF EVERYONE to know about it.

Jobcentre advert placed by Tesco for night shift staff. Who will be paid [drumroll] JSA (£67 a week) plus travel expenses.

Why the fucking fuck should Tesco get their staff for free? Why? Their profits last year were something like £3.5 billion last year!

I know who I think is taking the piss here, and its not the unemployed people who will be forced to work night shifts at Tesco for their £67 a week Angry

I think outsourcing of skilled manufacturing to overseas is going to absolute cripple this country eventually, but that's another issue Confused aand again the bottom line is always profit, rather than product

Agincourt · 16/02/2012 18:15

maybe they are offering workfare childcare courses too Wink who will look after the children whilst their parents work in tesco

minimathsmouse · 16/02/2012 18:16

"Bloody clever" unlike my typing.

Garlic, Tesco are actually boasting that they make more profit out of employees than they actually pay them. Shock that really takes the biscuit.

We need a complete list of these shops so that those of us who choose to, can boycott them.

also, the guardian have their figures wrong.

it says that 1400 staff have been taken on under this scheme in the past four months and that if they all worked 30 hours a week for eight weeks that amounts to 168000 hours of free labor.

by my calculations one employee working 30 hours a week for eight weeks works 240 hours. times that by 1400 and you end up with 336000 hours of free labor.

the 168000 is only for four weeks work.

urbanproserpine · 16/02/2012 18:23

The really sad thing is that if you were really forced to work nights and you weren't a single parent you wouldn't 'need' childcare as your DH/DW would be home. Then you could take turns, and never ever see each other, or your children. ;-( not nice

PeahenTailFeathers · 16/02/2012 18:23

I am horrified by this!
My 53 year old mother is unemployed (the very large company she worked for went out of business) and she's been forced to attend useless A 4 E training days - does this mean that she'd have to go on a workforce scheme, especially if A 4 E are favourable towards this slave labour?

NellieForbush · 16/02/2012 18:24

YANBU. Disgusting.

minimathsmouse · 16/02/2012 18:25

So how much is that in unpaid wages, or rather how much in tax payers money have these companies made. Over £2 million?

wannaBe · 16/02/2012 18:28

how much is minimum wage? (yes, I have a spreadsheet) Wink

minimathsmouse · 16/02/2012 18:30

£6.08 - the main rate for workers aged 21 and over
£4.98 - the 18-20 rate
£3.68 - the 16-17 rate for workers above school leaving age but under 18
£2.60 - the apprentice rate, for apprentices under 19 or 19 or over and in the first year of their apprenticeship

no scrap that...

wannaBe · 16/02/2012 18:36

sorry, my formula went wrong...

1400 people working for jsa of of £67 a week for a period of eight weeks will cost £750400

1400 people over the age of 21 working for minimum wage should cost the company £2056320

wannaBe · 16/02/2012 18:38

so do tesco not pay any of that?

sidress · 16/02/2012 18:40

They actually claim it was a 'mistake'. But even what they claim to be offering is an insult and a 'guarenteed interview' doesnt get you a job either, just a timewaster.

McHappyPants2012 · 16/02/2012 18:40

I think tesco should pay the government.

On paper people on this scheme under the age of 21 are better off.
Jsa is £67, rent in my area is £80 per week and approx £15 Council tax which equels £167 per week if they work for 30 hours is £5.40 above the NMW for that age group which is £4.89 ( or something like that)

Nilgiri · 16/02/2012 18:41

Ie £2,056,320 or over £2 million, so what minimathsmouse said.

Well that's nice.

Did someone say Tesco's get a fee on top of that?

McHappyPants2012 · 16/02/2012 18:43

I worked it out at £5.20 per hour

KalSkirata · 16/02/2012 18:50

here

This will affect the sick and disabled too.
''The policy could mean that those on employment and support allowance, who have been placed in the work-related activity group (Wrag), could be compelled to do work experience for charities and public bodies, and in high-street retailers. The Wrag group includes those who have been diagnosed with terminal cancer but have more than six months to live; accident and stroke victims; and those with mental health issues.'

People with terminal cancer. How fucking low can the Govt get?

Nilgiri · 16/02/2012 18:52

Except that your sums fall through completely, McHappyPants, if the person isn't receiving housing benefit, eg living with family.

Or if they would be receiving child tax credits for being employed rather than "experiencing" (obv hits over-21s much more).

KalSkirata · 16/02/2012 18:54

Im still waiting to discover how unpaid intern KateSpade paid her rent, food and bills.

minimathsmouse · 16/02/2012 18:54

Well done WannaBe, you have more patience than me! I just thought the calculator was warped but no it's capitalism that's warped.

Tesco take a fee? it gets worse. So the UK tax payer is funding this twice, not only do Tesco and other corps say yes please they have hoodwinked our gullible government into paying them.

How can this government justify pouring money into the coffers of private companies whilst all the time robbing the general public of a)tax, b)jobs, C)sustainable growth, D)peoples pride and opportunities.

It's not just barmy, it's bloody criminal.

Where the hell can I do my shopping, judging from Garlics list it might be easier to have a list of shops i can use Grin

minimathsmouse · 16/02/2012 18:56

People with terminal cancer. How fucking low can the Govt get?

I feel so angry, or is that sad, I can't believe the people of this country will allow this to happen. Are we going to sit back and allow this?

McHappyPants2012 · 16/02/2012 18:57

Wonders if aldi do this aswell
