to think Tesco should fucking well PAY THEIR STAFF?

I know, I know, there have been threads about it already.

But this is so rage-inducing, I want THE WHOLE OF EVERYONE to know about it.

Jobcentre advert placed by Tesco for night shift staff. Who will be paid [drumroll] JSA (£67 a week) plus travel expenses.

Why the fucking fuck should Tesco get their staff for free? Why? Their profits last year were something like £3.5 billion last year!

I know who I think is taking the piss here, and its not the unemployed people who will be forced to work night shifts at Tesco for their £67 a week Angry

Yanbu makes me Angry too and I'm normally all for these back to wrk schemes. Don't see how they can get away with it.

Plus, It's no wonder dh, with 7 years retail experience, can't even get a job in a supermarket when they have an abundance of unpaid staff.

KnockDiddyKnockKnock · 16/02/2012 16:34

Gosh what a fab opportunity.

I'd just love to work nights for £60 odd a week.

[daydreams]

hanaka88 · 16/02/2012 16:34

Jobseekers allowance is £67 a week and carers allowance is £50? Is that really right? Wow.

SinicalSanta · 16/02/2012 16:37

well you see if tesco weren't allowed slave labour they'd take their millions elsewhere. How would you like them apples, QueenOfFlippingEverything hmmm?

QueenOfFlippingEverything · 16/02/2012 16:38

Yeah, opportunity of a lifetime - stacking shelves all night in Tesco. Woop woop.

Makes a total mockery of claims that the scheme is to give people work related skills Hmm

Honeydragon · 16/02/2012 16:39

I worked nights at Tesco - they are completely immoral bastards when no one is around to see them. How is this helping our economic climate if they get staff for free?

SinicalSanta · 16/02/2012 16:41

Is it just Tesco or are all supermarkets allowed to take part in this scheme/
If not, surely it's giving a them an unfair advantage.

You'd think the Tories would be able to pull off Free Marketing properly, fgs. it's their baby

alistron1 · 16/02/2012 16:41

As well as paying their staff they should pay their taxes and stop shafting their suppliers.

Laquitar · 16/02/2012 16:51

YANBU at all.

I used to shop at tesco and i've stopped now. Although its not tesco's fault really but the Goverment's.

takingiteasy · 16/02/2012 16:52

Fucking outrageous.

TheCrackFox · 16/02/2012 16:54

You know tesco really needs to watch itself. It makes billions a year yet shafts it's staff. The could actually create more proper jobs instead of expecting the taxpayer to subsidise its wage bill.

I will be shopping in sainsbury's from now on.

JaneMare · 16/02/2012 16:54

how the fuck can they advertise the job as permanent?

catgirl1976 · 16/02/2012 16:54

Workfare is an absolute disgrace.

GreenEyesAndHam · 16/02/2012 16:55

It's a disgrace.

QueenOfFlippingEverything · 16/02/2012 16:57

I just DON'T GET IT.

They make billions every year yet are getting what is tantamount to slave labour, who are then paid subsistence money by the state.

What the fuck? How is that ok? Why is that allowed?

Its just WRONG.

bleedingheart · 16/02/2012 16:58

YADNBU!

TunipTheVegemal · 16/02/2012 16:59

it's not just Tesco is it though, Sainsburys uses Workfare too, there's a website somewhere listing them all.
It tells you how to put in a FOI request so you can find out who is doing it in your local area.

Agincourt · 16/02/2012 17:00

Sainsbury's have pulled out of this voluntary scheme and someone else....was it Waterstones? and yes, i think it's terrible too but retail isn't alone in all these. Internships for graduates generally are not paid either

QueenOfFlippingEverything · 16/02/2012 17:01

No, its not just Tesco. That's just the advert I saw on the Jobcentre website today.

OP posts:
Agincourt · 16/02/2012 17:01

yes, workfare I forgot the name. It was in the Guardian that they have pulled out. Will find the article

takingiteasy · 16/02/2012 17:01

At least there's an element of choice and long term gain with an internship.

CelticPromise · 16/02/2012 17:02

YADNBU, it is utterly foul and immoral.

I didn't know Sainsbury's did it.

CelticPromise · 16/02/2012 17:03

x posts, phew. Was getting short of supermarkets, and Waitrose is a bit ££ for a weekly shop.

QueenOfFlippingEverything · 16/02/2012 17:03

Poundland do it too Angry

I was just amazed Tesco were so utterly blatant about it.
