To ask what happened to your breasts after breastfeeding?

Odd question, didn't want to put it in BF since that seems to be about mums currently BFing rather than post. Maybe not.

I was 34C prior to DC1, 34D during pregnancy, didn't BF and returned to 34C once I lost baby weight.

34D again during 2nd pregnancy, did BF DC2 and 4 months on from stopping, am a small 34B, i.e. small as in empty and just about 34B.

A friend told me that up to 6 months post-BF, they can return to pre-pg size. Did anyone experience this? Do I sound pathetic, checking the poor things everyday to see if they have gained that elusive cup size?

What exactly IS the pencil test???

flamingtoaster · 11/02/2012 10:17

The pencil test is when you can put a pencil under your breast and if it stays there without being held you've failed.

Ambrosius · 11/02/2012 10:21

Thanks! I have always wondered!

MamaLazarou · 11/02/2012 10:26

Mine are just the same. 34F, not exactly pert, but then they wouldn't be at that size, in my late thirties. When my milk came in I was too big for a J-cup! My husband says he can still remember them as they were then, the filthy bastard.

MamaLazarou · 11/02/2012 10:27

Oh, I totally fail the pencil test. Who gives a shit - they're breasts, not bits of bloody plastic.

TruthSweet · 11/02/2012 10:33

I went from a 38B pre-preg with DD1 to a 38D during pg, 38DD post pg, then a 38FF with 48hrs of starting fenugreek for low supply. I lost weight during DD2's pg and went down to a 36FF/G, I'm now bfing DD2 & DD3 and a 36E (they are 4y & 2y so not feeding much now) but I am 7wks pg with DC4 and they are starting to grow again!

Not quite sure what will happen when I stop as it's been nearly 6y without a break and all going well I'll be bfing for at least another 2 more years, I'll get back to you in 2015-2016 to let you know what's happened!

kickingking · 11/02/2012 10:44

I was a 32b before pregnancy, 34dd during pregnancy and breastfeeding, back to 32b afterwards but they seemed empty and flatter, although not saggy.

It's hard to compare with pre pregnancy as that was two years ago so my memory might have flattered me! A year or so after stopping breastfeeding I was remeasured as a 32c/d - they had defiantly plumper up. I think I could have been wearing the wrong size before I got pregnant though.

kickingking · 11/02/2012 10:46

Oh and I pass the pencil test! Wouldn't say breastfeeding made a big difference to my boobs overall really.

fragola · 11/02/2012 10:49

34c before first pregnancy, 34f during breastfeeding, 34 c (but rather deflated looking) afterwards. 34g during breastfeeding this time around, I just stopped feeding a week ago, so I'm interested to see what will happen to them.

CrunchyFrog · 11/02/2012 10:59

I've lost a lot of weight since stopping BF, down from a 40F to a 32FF.

Was a 38f before any pregnancies.

I have it on good authority that they are lovely boobies Grin not particularly saggy, skin a bit loose but that's going.

Was pg or BFing for 8 years with 3 kids, and I'm very happy with them now!

bigbird80 · 11/02/2012 11:20

I was a perky 34AA before 38 B while feeding for 18 months and then 36AA after. Still perky but they are so small how can they not be??!!
Currently BF DS2 9 mths so don't know what way they will end up this time...
Friend had 32 DD before pregnant. After pregnancy with no BF she is 34B.
Our bodies just change with Pg and BF. I have an array of clothes from size 10 to size 16 depending on what stage pre or post pregnancy I am!

diddl · 11/02/2012 11:29

I´m a size & a cup bigger & I fail the pencil testSad

SilentBoob · 11/02/2012 11:33

The left one joined a travelling folk band with political emphasis and was last seen touring Ireland. The right one turned purple and flew up the chimney.

JustHecate · 11/02/2012 12:01

Grin mad - it's best you know early...

34C before pregnancy. 34D-34E during pg and bf and now 10y on I'm a 36G. They just didn't stop growing.

Can you not ask any of the mums in your family what happened to theirs.

All the natural mums in my family have big bosoms. (my auntie cc and adopted my cousin).

I'm sure its supposed to be genetically linked.

Catstwattypoosituation · 11/02/2012 12:23

Crinkly. No feeling in them whatsoever. They're roughly the same size and shape but the skin is stretched to bollocks.

My mum is 60, breast fed two children and hers are like something off of Baywatch.

JustHecate · 11/02/2012 12:29

I've got that too, cats - can't feel a thing. You could stick pins in them and I wouldn't feel it. Not even the nipples.

Still, if I ever wanted nipple piercings, at least it wouldn't hurt Grin

ThePhantomPlopper · 11/02/2012 12:53

I went from lovely 28A to 30DD back to a smallish 28C. They're alright and look great in a bra but they're not as firm and my nipples aren't as nice, I'd much rather go back to a 28A but the 30 day shred has made them a bit perkier.

BrandyAlexander · 11/02/2012 13:12

28E before dc1, bf for a year and then returned to that size. Am still breastfeeding dc2 and I am 30E/28F. I am a bit worried that they will be smaller cupped when I stop bf. They were never perky pre dc, as I wore wrong sizes and didn't wear underwired the first 12/13 years I wore bras. They actually look perky when I am pregnant or feeding so will be really sad when I stop and they return to being a smaller saggier version of what I have now. Sad

I was going to ask about your weight. I was a 38g haven't been measured yet but my old strapless bra shows just how much I have lost however I have also lost about 3 stones as well ( yes a stealth boast and I don't care Grin )

SkinnyJeans I am the same size as I was prior to my first pregnancy and in between DCs, I went back to my pre-pregnancy size too.

Shoreandsea you have made my heart sing! I'm just hoping for the same size as they were same before DCs, I know they couldn't possibly be as perky - used to take my bra and they stayed put. [wistful look]
