To think that if you have a clock on the mantlepiece it needs to go in the middle?

Or am I being anal? My children say so. I don't think I am, but I need support from the MN jury. How could the clock go on one end? That would be wrong.

Right now it goes plant, photo frame, photo frame, CLOCK, photo frame, body sort of sculpture thing, flowers.

But clock in the middle. Yes?!

Norks - can you fart on someone else's thread?

Clock in the middle.
End

Mine has nothing in the middle, but it has something at either end.

But our fireplace is a large, floor to ceiling red brick thing and the mantlepiece bit is a wooden beam with a row of curved bricks on it, so a clock wouldn't fit unless it was really small or really thin.

If a clock did fit I would have it, as Avocado says, one third in from the left edge.

NorksAreMessy · 06/02/2012 19:57

it is ARTY farting, not flatulence, it's ART, RBOTP

StarlightDicKenzie · 06/02/2012 20:02

I don't own a tape meausre, full length mirror, spirit level or iron!

RatherBeOnThePiste · 06/02/2012 20:02

Not from where I'm standing Norks.......

RatherBeOnThePiste · 06/02/2012 20:05

Norks you say the sin is to go up-down-up-down-up-up-down....
But where is your clock?

OP posts:
RatherBeOnThePiste · 06/02/2012 20:06

Middle

NorksAreMessy · 06/02/2012 20:08

Clock is on the wall, where it should be. Not cluttering up the mantlepiece

NorksAreMessy · 06/02/2012 20:08

see photo in link with Pom

RatherBeOnThePiste · 06/02/2012 20:09

Thirds and fifths = weird

I'm getting waylaid by the skittles vodka......

OP posts:
NorksAreMessy · 06/02/2012 20:10

so did Pom

IwishIwasmoreorganised · 06/02/2012 20:11

I have a rather lovely long candle holdery thing in the middle, the clock all jaunty at the right and some kind of clock lookalike barometer thing of DH's at the other end - so perhaps I'm not too bad after all

Clock is most definitely not centre stage but we're more or less symmetrical.

NorksAreMessy · 06/02/2012 20:11

another mantlepiece holds six wooden manikins in various poses (none farting)

NorksAreMessy · 06/02/2012 20:12

I wish you get a big tick for triangulariness

Sparklingbrook · 06/02/2012 20:14

Stop with the 'jaunty'. Angry

RatherBeOnThePiste · 06/02/2012 20:15

......Calls from the other room "I'm still on the skittles vodka here"

OP posts:
RatherBeOnThePiste · 06/02/2012 20:16

There is no call for jaunty....

and there is no hope IwishIwasmoreorganised

NorthernWreck · 06/02/2012 20:17

But you don't look at the mantelpiece when you're poking the fire.

NorksAreMessy · 06/02/2012 20:18

'Jaunty' is very nearly as bad as 'brighten up', 'pretty up' and 'add a pop of colour'.

All meaning 'add some unnecessary object, frill or furbelow - like putting glitter on a turd

TwoStepsBack · 06/02/2012 20:19

Jaunty is just another word for wrong !!

I am proud to say that my symmetry does not just end with the mantelpiece.

It applies to windowsills as well. In fact, it is only right that all my window panes are odd numbers which gives me a middle window in each room in which to display a vase or other objet d'art.

RatherBeOnThePiste · 06/02/2012 20:20

NorthernWreck - now that would be taking jaunty a step too far......

NorthernWreck · 06/02/2012 20:23
Grin Just remember darlinks: You should have nothing in your home that is not either useful or beautiful. Except a whole load of plastic clanging toys
RatherBeOnThePiste · 06/02/2012 20:25

I don't know why but the thought of objet d'art makes me
