To think that if you have a clock on the mantlepiece it needs to go in the middle?

Or am I being anal? My children say so. I don't think I am, but I need support from the MN jury. How could the clock go on one end? That would be wrong.

Right now it goes plant, photo frame, photo frame, CLOCK, photo frame, body sort of sculpture thing, flowers.

But clock in the middle. Yes?!

thepeoplesprincess or maybe that's why you are now an ex ;)

We have a clock on the mantelpiece - it is not in the middle Blush

Sparklingbrook · 06/02/2012 18:59

RatherBeOnThePiste · 06/02/2012 19:00

When my Christmas garland went on the mantelpiece - I had to take the clock out of the room. It was just WRONG anywhere else.

IDismyname · 06/02/2012 19:00

MIDDLE!
and only the MIDDLE.

(I'm starting to feel quite ill, too.)

TheAvocadoOfWisdom · 06/02/2012 19:01

one third of the way along. Otherwise it would bother me. You are all nuts you middle-obsessives.

RatherBeOnThePiste · 06/02/2012 19:02

I had a Christmas garland thingy too, but my clock could stay IN THE MIDDLE

RatherBeOnThePiste · 06/02/2012 19:02

One third??????
One third?
ONE THIRD????

What hecate said. However, my DH was not au fait with appropriate clock placement and as a result I've had to move it to a nearby bookshelf.

Sparklingbrook · 06/02/2012 19:02

'One third of the way along? GASP.

wonkylegs · 06/02/2012 19:03

Wow all these clean symmetrical mantles.... Mine goes vase of flowers , pot of pens, clock, photo, very small plant, 2 candles, picture, more candles, some post, small plant, photo, another vase of flowers, another candle, some bubbles & a haphazard arrangement of about 15 birthday cards Grin I think it needs a declutter!

RatherBeOnThePiste · 06/02/2012 19:03

Hecate did well until she spoke of triangles....... and angles and other weird things.

Pens?

In the last house that we lived in, the mantelpiece was not central on the wall.Shock

I practically had to go into therapy.

Mantle is the only place DS can't climb so pens have been kept up there to prevent 'artwork'

RatherBeOnThePiste · 06/02/2012 19:05

at TwoStepsBack
How the fuck would you get the clock central in such chaos??!!

RatherBeOnThePiste · 06/02/2012 19:06

My Christmas arrangment also takes the clock into account!

WhereYouLeftIt · 06/02/2012 19:08

Well my clock sits on the left of my mantelpiece. The centre is reserved for the tallest item on it.

cheekyseamonkey · 06/02/2012 19:08

Old house, modern clock, slap bang in middle. Would feel queasy if not, cat nudged it when I was 41 +6 with DD1, wedged myself out of sofa, immediately.

New house, HUGE old fashioned clock, just looked wrong in the middle. Couldn't bear it on the side, made me sweat, now it's on the top bookshelf, and to the right and looks great.

But mantle = middle

trixymalixy · 06/02/2012 19:08

Mantelpieces that are decorated too symmetrically just look dull. I don't have a clock on mine, but if I did I don't think I'd put it in the middle.

ReshapeWhileDamp · 06/02/2012 19:08

I cannot bear the idea of all these off-centre clocks. They're activating my twitch. Sad

I have no mantle clock. Sad But when I have flowers, I always have them at one end. The only other things on the mantlepiece are framed photographs and flowers look quite nice at one end. But NEVER a clock at one end!

NorksAreMessy · 06/02/2012 19:09

sorry, not about middle-ness, it's all about height!

All decorations / window displays / flower arrangements etc look best arranged in a triangle ...isosceles or scalene, your choice.

The sin is to go up-down-up-down-up-up-down!
where's my graph paper

cheekyseamonkey · 06/02/2012 19:09

Twosteps why on earth did you buy that house???!!!
