Good god what IS he playing at???

He could have got a 5 litre Jaguar for that money!

Fool.

wahwahwah · 28/01/2012 10:54

Would never happen to me. DH doesn't know where I keep the money!

BrandyAlexander · 28/01/2012 10:55

The nice sensible family car is dh's. Mine is the convertible car that I refused to give up even though you can't put the kids in it Grin sadly doesn't make any difference but I can pretend the sensible family car isn't mine!!

twincrazy · 28/01/2012 10:59

Jesus...what an idiot..and the house needs doing up...unless he has won the euromillions...I would seriously be worried

Remain strong xx

WowOoo · 28/01/2012 11:00

Whoever said you can't buy a car and drive it away the same day is wrong. I did that last year. Saleswoman said it was unusual and I didn't get the car until 7pm.

Have you been out for a test drive in the car yet? I think it's quite exciting. We have a new car, want a spin? But, I would be a bit annoyed.

PosieParker · 28/01/2012 11:08

Obviously your husband thinks his wants outweigh the family's needs....

nice catch.

Serenitysutton · 28/01/2012 11:10

CabrinA- totally agree- we had a car sold at auction in the same way, and it went for less than 30k (20-25 I think?) it was a 5 yo Aston db8, purchased for 80k 3 years previously. Now I can kind of undertand auction mans wife being told he had got a bargain...

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 28/01/2012 11:16

Re giving the money/cash over £10,000, debit/ credit card.

He could've paid with a Bankers Draught.
It's like cash in hand but with the security of a cheque. Oh it sounds like I'm advertising it.
It's what I adviced my dad to do when he bought a car (he's too trusting and would've paid cash. )

Cabrinha · 28/01/2012 11:27

Serenitysutton - thank god my husband wasn't anywhere near that auction! He'd sell his soul for a DB8 I think! What a bargain!

EdlessAllenPoe · 28/01/2012 11:46

black.... Hmm

my car is red because there is little danger of someone failing to see me coming.

oh, the days when brakes were an optional extra fitted on later models....

northwest that does top the OP. i know people who have gone into rented houses sight unseen, but not bought....

EdlessAllenPoe · 28/01/2012 11:49

i have known people pay £10k+ for things cash. in stage-payments though.

as, when the magistrate is hearing a debt case, and someone offers to re-pay, say,, £20k in 4 payments of £5K cash into the bank..they don't say no...

troisgarcons · 28/01/2012 11:58

ahhhhhpushit Fabby it is illegal under money laundering rules to pay for anything over £10k with cash.

Where do people get these ideas from? Illegal my arse.

i would go mad, its totally selfish spending that sort of money with out agreeing to it.

esp if you need to spend it on your house.

i would seriously consider if i wanted to stay with a person like that.

sorry op Sad

diddl · 28/01/2012 12:21

So, what was the point of the OP?

SaggyHairyArse · 28/01/2012 12:26

Well, I would be less than impressed as £30K is a lot of money to me but what is done is done (if it can't be undone). I would lay the law down and suggest that he keeps the car for 6 months and then you both sell your cars and he can downgrade his vehicle whilst you upgrade yours (as you seem a bit peed off with the Picasso) so as to compromise.

As for the house, I have started a project I wish I had never started and would strongly suggest you wait until they are older as half the time I feel like i'm going mad (crap everywhere, half finished decorating etc etc) Wink

SaggyHairyArse · 28/01/2012 12:26

they = your kids!

I honestly thought this post was a joke, but realised after 6 pages there wasn't a punchline.

I'd love DH to bring back a £30k car without asking me, because it would mean he had £30k to waste on a car without asking me.

And now it transpires it was just a budgetary issue, not a bought a flash car out of the blue type of issue. And OP is getting ridiculously upset about it?

Talk about storm in a teacup...

feelinghappynow · 28/01/2012 12:33

I'd be gutted if Dh had a lovely car and I had a picasso!! Seems school run mums have either the dull mpv or the crazy 4x4 thing. Why not something exciting?

Some people are car people and some arent. If you can afford it, fair enough. I'd be annoyed if Dh did this as we share the excitement of purchases like this together.

Omg I would kill him! Sad for you and your house!
See if he can return it. I would be Angry

catinboots · 28/01/2012 13:10

Er hello?

Why the spite and venom on this thread? As I said on one of the horrible other threads that has spawned from this - MN is a place for everyone to vent. Not just the poor and the hard-done-by.

Hope you're ok OP x

diddl · 28/01/2012 13:16

What is there to vent, though?

Husband buys car that he can afford??!!

Sparklingbrook · 28/01/2012 13:21

There has been some venom by the OP too.......
