In thinking that if you won't go out alone at night because you've got a vagina, you are actually a bit pathetic?

Because, statistically, if you have a vagina, you are far more at risk of being murdered if you stay at home If your home has a man in it. Yet time and time again there's this 'Waa, waa, I need an armed escort or a male owner to protect me if I'm ever going to set a foot out of doors after dark. It's so unreasonable to expect me to use public transport or walk anywhere...'

I agree Sarah, but why is she allowed to have swearing in her name and my post was deleted? AF gives great advice not disputing that but hasn't she expressed her opinion

She usually supports SGB no matter what.

Where is she?

SarahStratton · 11/01/2012 17:21

Because the swearing is in her name and swearing is allowed. There are other sweary names too. What isnt allowed is personal attacks, and your post was a personal attack.

OriginalJamie · 11/01/2012 17:22

yes

And you sound a bit obsessed with AF.

SparkleSoiree · 11/01/2012 17:23

Grin Oh dear.

MyFirstSpanishHoliday · 11/01/2012 17:23

SGB hasn't personally attacked you sarah?

ARE YOU FUCKING JOKING?

OriginalJamie · 11/01/2012 17:25

For someone who objects to sweary names you are swearing (and shouting) quite a lot

Uncalled for. Not cricket.

SarahStratton · 11/01/2012 17:28

Jesus, that is a disgusting thing to say. Shock

Off you trot. And no, sgb has not personally attacked me. We just happen to significantly disagree on some fairly major points.

I still wouldn't ever say anything like that though.

BasilRathbone · 11/01/2012 17:29

Your post was deleted SpanishHoliday becuase it was a load of misogynist bile which contained personal insults.

Misogyny is OK on MN; but personal insults aren't.

HTH

DontCallMeFrothyDragon · 11/01/2012 17:29

Someone's a bit obsessed with AF... Hmm

Whereas SGB's first post may have been misinformed (eg; triggering...) I do suspect her heart was in the right place. It was just poorly worded.

But at the same time, I don't think other women's choices should be criticised. What works for me may not work for someone else. It's about choice, and what makes us feel comfortable. For example, I don't expect Squeaky (as an example, nothing personal) to follow my lifestyle choices. But at the same time, I don't expect to be told how to live my life. A little more respect is perhaps needed between everyone, here.

MJinBlack · 11/01/2012 17:30

Myfirst, I find SGBs posts as offensive as you do and your post did make me laugh, but you knew it would be pulled, because it was directly offensive.

To be honest, whatever your intentions, you are derailing a thread where lots of posters have invested a lot of emotional energy, and whatever your intentions it would probably be best if you left it.

Oh I hate that word so much, it is so over used.

It was an offensive post, but even so, Basil given the number of insults you flung about earlier, you are hardly in a postion to talk are you.

You only changed your tone when one of the most reknowned feminist posters pointed out this thread should not be claimed for feminism.

SarahStratton · 11/01/2012 17:34

I find sgb's posts offensive. But they are not aimed at me personally.

loopylou6 · 11/01/2012 17:34

Um, holidayholiday, I don't see why you're targeting and personalising AF, its bad taste and nothing to do with this thread, and why call her IT? from what I've seen she is a very nice person who goes out of her way to give sound advice.

Sgb I can't believe you're still arguing the toss on this, I think you should have this thread deleted and maybe think about being a bit more sensitive in future.

garlicfrother · 11/01/2012 17:34

Oh dear, I'm missing all the good fights on here :(

Anyway, OP, YANBU. Drives me crazy, that shit.

BasilRathbone · 11/01/2012 17:35

Who was it who asked for figures about men you know being more dangerous to you than men you don't know?

Fewer than 8% of rapes are carried out by men unknown to the victim. In the majority of rapes, the victim and the perpetrator know each other.

Most women admitted to hospitals with injuries from personal attacks, are victims of domestic violence. Not random stranger attacks. Very few women are ever physically attacked by strangers, but 1 in 4 women are attacked by their partners, husbands, boyfriends, or exes.

HTH.

MJinBlack · 11/01/2012 17:36

garlicfrother, I think you need to read the thread TBF, a lot of posters have backtracked on that exact sentiment.

garlicfrother · 11/01/2012 17:36

I've only just noticed the OP is [reverential pause] SGB Grin

Revised answer: OP, YAusuallyBU but in this case IAgreeWY.

garlicfrother · 11/01/2012 17:37

I will, MJ, later. It looks v interesting.

loopylou6 · 11/01/2012 17:37

But I'd also like to point out sgb that I know it wasn't your intention to hurt anyone.

BasilRathbone · 11/01/2012 17:38

Read my first post again MJ.

BasilRathbone · 11/01/2012 17:40

Oh and I think it speaks volumes about you MJ that you hate the word misogyny.

You hate it being pointed out. You hate posters being called on using it.

Even you can't deny that that post was misogynist. But of course, you're more offended by me pointing that out, than the misogyny.

Can't say I'm surprised.
