...to not understand why Greggs sausage rolls are so bad?

I've just seen yet another thread in which Greggs sausage rolls are deemed bad food for toddlers (mentioned along with McDonalds, fruit shoots etc.)

Am I missing something? I really don't understand... Surely they are just pastry and sausagemeat? Are they any worse than other sausage rolls?

See < digresses > I don't have a problem with eyelids and snouts. If you're going to eat one bit of a pig why not another? Why would a bit of 'matter' from inside or the wrong end be worse than eating it's shoulder or buttock?

Tattie scones, rolls and irn bru are staples in many Scottish homes. Including mine, but the irn bru belongs to DS2. Who is 21.

OldLadyKnowsSantaClaus · 19/12/2011 23:22

I also have bacon and square sausage. But no Froot Shoots. Oh no, only Ella's kitchen here.

rumplegotstuckupthechimney · 19/12/2011 23:27

can someone post me a greggs sausage roll please? I promise not to share it with my 18month old ds!

dixiechick1975 · 19/12/2011 23:32

No one has mentioned the Greggs kids meal deal - sausage roll, carton of ribena and a doughnut.

Bewilderedmum · 19/12/2011 23:42

Bloody hell - am hungry now!

We went to maccy 'd's' today after swimming - we got half price swimming cos the pool was below normal temp. boys had a great time, although when ds2's lips went navy, we repaired to Maccy 'd's..

haven't been there for a couple of years, and we ate for England - couldn't do it again for another couple of years though - have had me fix!

Likewise with Greggs - Me and the boys tried one of their sausage rolls once - and they were yum! And if we were in town wanting something en -route to eat, I wouldn't hesitate - but cos they are older, it's not oft I buy stuff to eat when out. They are cracking though.... and in moderation, with an otherwise healthy diet - why not?

jasper · 19/12/2011 23:50

they're not bad, they're very very good.
But not as good as Steak Bakes

GoingForGoalWeight · 20/12/2011 00:15

Where are all the Greggs sausage roll haters?

I remember when Greggs was Braggs...although Mum never went in there.

Rubyx · 20/12/2011 00:22

Yummy i like them, my kids would prob have one a month but have gone off them and like chicken bakes now...

DandyDan · 20/12/2011 09:46

Greggs sausage rolls are yummy, almost as good as their chicken bakes.

tallwivglasses · 20/12/2011 10:16

I offered a friend a cup of tea once. She passed me her 6 month old's bottle and said 'she takes two sugars'

Shock

Nobody's mentioned the cheese pasties. My downfall. Yum.

crashdoll · 20/12/2011 10:23

Shall I trek to Gregg's for a sausage roll or pop into somewhere closed for one? Oh the decisions!

TheCokeMachine · 20/12/2011 11:29

You lot are making me nostalgic for my home town of Gosforth (I come from the home town of Greggs!), however you're not making me want a sausage roll. They are bloody lush but give me the worst indigestion ever.

Kayano I love stotties too!

JingleyBalls · 20/12/2011 14:36

TCM, I am a Gosforth girl as well Smile

I am not a lover of stotties though.

And tea drunk out of a bottle is tacky, tea out of a mug is fine.

nappyaddict · 20/12/2011 14:53

Greenbananas - what are ds' allergies and where do you live? Maybe another local mner may no of an alternative to maccies if you are sick of going to the same place?

Insomnia11 · 20/12/2011 15:44

Sausage rolls are meant to be full of saturated fat FFS. Supposed to be made with buttery pastry and sausage meat! The worst kind of sausage rolls are supermarket tiny hard ones that parents regularly serve at parties.

I don't know when I last had a Greggs sausage roll but I used to buy their sandwiches and vegetable pasties which weren't half bad.
