...to not understand why Greggs sausage rolls are so bad?

I've just seen yet another thread in which Greggs sausage rolls are deemed bad food for toddlers (mentioned along with McDonalds, fruit shoots etc.)

Am I missing something? I really don't understand... Surely they are just pastry and sausagemeat? Are they any worse than other sausage rolls?

I actually really like Greggs sausage roll's. I think of them more as a once a month treat rather then a daily/weekly thing though.

GetDownNesbitt · 19/12/2011 21:39

Well, that's tomorrow's dinner sorted.

Pineapple Melba for pud, I reckon.

LoveInASnowyClimate · 19/12/2011 21:42

Another one who craved them when pregnant, but only in first trimester, thank god. Am now 28 weeks and have eaten a lot of green vegetables since to try to atone...

JingleyBalls · 19/12/2011 21:49

There is a 24 one in Newcastle, it is at the top of the Bigg market.

Now, I couldn't eat any Greggs products when pregnant, even the smell of it gave me heartburn, and eating one made my insides spontaneously combust.

tigerlillyd02 · 19/12/2011 21:54

I wish they were healthier so I could eat one every single day! They're just so delicious I could eat loads I'm sure. In fact I fancy one or two or three now.

Even for children I don't see the harm in an occasional sausage roll.

VickityBoo · 19/12/2011 22:00

Ooh I've never had a greggs before. We've only just got one. I had no idea it had such a bad reputation!

Moominsarescary · 19/12/2011 22:03

No no no children should not be given greggs sausage rolls, that would mean less for me

I find my self hoiking up my judgy pants more when I see tea in a bottle tbh

tardisjumper · 19/12/2011 22:06

I am still baffled by the pom bears thing. Is it that they are crap food, or that they are middle class crisps?

scottishmummy · 19/12/2011 22:07

won't hear bad word about gregge my scheme wean upbringing that is
still love gregge cheese and onion pasties
weans love greggs
we all love greggs

VickityBoo · 19/12/2011 22:08

Pom bears are supposed to be a healthier alternative to other crisps I think. Low salt etc. A couple of pre-schools around here have them as snacks. That's what I heard anyway. Our dd is 3 and I don't let her have crisps except for parties and really rare treats so I'm not an expert!

Moominsarescary · 19/12/2011 22:08

Pom bears? Are they worse than other crisp type things

VickityBoo · 19/12/2011 22:12

They're supposed to be better than other crisp type things

Kayano · 19/12/2011 22:14

I freakin love Pom Bears

Particularly in a Greggs Stottie

Crisp sandwiches ftw! Grin

WilsonFrickett · 19/12/2011 22:16

Crisp sandwiches.....with real butter....and mayo.

VickityBoo · 19/12/2011 22:16

What's so special about greggs then? Are they deep-fried in re-used lard or something? Not yet willing to break my greggs virginity.

My daughter has always liked tea. From about 18 months - very very weak and no milk/sugar. In a cup.

Davinaaddict · 19/12/2011 22:16

We went to Greggs today as a snack whilst out Christmas shopping and I bought DS (23 months) his first sausage roll. He turned his nose up at it - I was so proud and made a comment about the MN jury being very pleased with him Xmas Grin

scottishmummy · 19/12/2011 22:17

crispy morning roll,butter,crisps (plain)

WilsonFrickett · 19/12/2011 22:18

Make it a well-fired roll scottish and I'll be over in a minute Xmas Grin

scottishmummy · 19/12/2011 22:22

you like the well fired wi black bits?
add a tattie scone and I will run

Moominsarescary · 19/12/2011 22:24

I used to love a greggs tuna salad baguette, then they changed it to the crunch and it's not the same.

Vickity it's just the bottle thing with me, don't know why but anything bar milk in a bottle just does me, but then I'm a mean cow of a mother that chucks bottles away before the age of one

1gglePiggle · 19/12/2011 22:24

What's a stottie?

Moominsarescary · 19/12/2011 22:26

Is it a cake ?

Kayano · 19/12/2011 22:26

It's the worlds best breadbun Wink
Big massive round thing

Moominsarescary · 19/12/2011 22:27

WilsonFrickett · 19/12/2011 22:28

OMFG a tattle scone and brown sauce.... Maybe with fried mushrooms. Or black pudding.

There is quite literally nothing to eat in this house...
