"Walk of shame" is to do with one night stands in my neck of the woods
That's the whole point of what it is called. Of course there's nothing shameful about having sex Hmm but it's a bit of a stretch to say it's simply to do with having been out all night Hmm
That was an awful awful ad. What's the message? If you are rich you won't look like a slut. (That's not me saying anyone looks like a slut - but the thinking behind the advert is clear).
Awful ad.

SardineQueen · 09/12/2011 19:21

Apart from anything else, the first woman is coming out of someone's house.

The idea that this is about anything other than one night stands is silly.

Also, the other women look deliberately pitiful: staggering or swaying, still drunk, tattered, shoeless etc., whereas the Harvey Nicks woman is elegant, sociable, seen acknowledging the lower orders who could never afford to actually live at her address, merely deliver post to it.

I secretly rather hope the postie is saying "Don't start talking to me, love- last time you struck up conversation coked up to the eyeballs, you bored the shit out of me and made me late."

DingDongDialsMavislyOnHigh · 09/12/2011 19:30

couldn't it just mean "splash out on a posh frock to make you feel fabulous and you won't give a flying fuck what anyone thinks when you stay out all night"

noblegiraffe · 09/12/2011 19:38

The posh frock is a bit of a shapeless sack IMO.

JosieZ · 09/12/2011 19:39

The last woman has her shoulders back

The others are hunched.

But that is often the case in the UK. We have awful posture.

If you imagine the first girls with their shoulders back and their heads held high you would wish you were them -- great night out, life is for living, rather than the walk of shame as demonstrated in the ad.

Trills · 09/12/2011 19:42

it's a bit of a stretch to say it's simply to do with having been out all night

We don't all live in your neck of the woods.

In my experience it's just about having been out all night. It is shameful because you are walking home in your party outfit. That is all.

noblegiraffe · 09/12/2011 19:49

The shame seems to be coming from the outfits being too short and revealing. Why was it not comparing a Harvey Nicks outfit to a different outfit that was not as nice but not short and revealing if it's about the clothes being nice?

spiderpig8 · 09/12/2011 19:50

They were talking about it on 'loose women' and they were relating it to a night of partying rather than shagging. And have you never crashed on a floor/sofa because you were too skint/drunk to get a taxi home.

I bow to the superior intellect of Colleen Nolan

MrsPennySworth · 09/12/2011 19:51

Thanks veronicaspeedwell, yes that's what I was thinking !

JamieComeHome · 09/12/2011 19:52

gawd - I sound like I shop at Harvey Nicks

akaemmafrost · 09/12/2011 20:02

That flat she goes into at the end is on my daily run route by the Thames in West London. So there you go.

akaemmafrost · 09/12/2011 20:03

Exactly dingdong.

thunderboltsandlightning · 09/12/2011 20:08

What's the cause of their shame - the fact that it's implied they've stayed all night to have sex? And that they aren't stylish the next day?

A double-whammy of misogyny.

JamieComeHome · 09/12/2011 20:09

dingdong. Now you say that, you might be right that that was the advert's intent. Not quite coming over like that though

NinkyNonker · 09/12/2011 20:10

Awful awful awful. I have done the walk of shame, with very little shame to be honest. But then where I lived at the time was hyper casual so night out gear was similar to day time gear!

whackamole · 09/12/2011 20:14

Dislike.

HandMini · 09/12/2011 20:21

Hmmm. Definitely classist. All the kebab munching / shoes off on the tube platform vibe of the first lot is definitely poking fun at them and all in "out of comfort zone" situations, ie having to barge through commuters in the street. The model at the end breezes along in the sunshine straight into her own front door. HN have totally misjudged their message here - it screams classist "chav-bashing" - tawdry and unpleasant piece altogether.

Romilly70 · 09/12/2011 20:31

horrible ad.

Makes you feel sad for the first few women, who really look like they have been used - where is the bloke paying for a cab and waving them off politely.

Would never shop at Harvey Nicks anyway.

The only way it would make sense is if it was advertising coats

Alargeglassofred · 09/12/2011 20:42

Think it's brilliant!! Yes! I've been there. Harvey Nics outfit, topshop outfit ....felt slightly less fragrant in the Harvey Nics one!!

SardineQueen · 09/12/2011 20:56

Well no not everyone is from around here.

But a lot of people watching the ad will think it is talking about one night stands.

Alargeglassofred · 09/12/2011 21:02

I mean top shopGrinGrin
