Yy diddl. And you keep them in your nice big bag Wink

SoupDragon · 10/12/2011 11:56

Does Harvey Nics only sell women's clothing?

PigletJohn · 10/12/2011 11:56

surely the Harvey Knicks woman met some nice bloke who's freshened up her dress in the tumble-drier while cooking the scrambled eggs she ate while blow-drying her hair?

MollyTheMole · 10/12/2011 12:08

BOF - I dunno, for me I just see the ad for what it is - women of all sizes walking home after a night of partying, looking a bit ropey in turd outfits, compared to someone of a similar size to most of the others in the ad, just with a better made, well fitting dress on ie. message being buy from Harvey Nic because the clothes are better.

But I is obviously fick innit Hmm

WorraLiberty · 10/12/2011 12:12

That's exactly how I see it Molly

noblegiraffe · 10/12/2011 12:16

I showed it to my DH and his first comment, a couple of women in, was 'is this a rape warning ad?'

LEttletownofBOFlehem · 10/12/2011 12:22

A bit, Molly, maybe Xmas Grin

Nah- obviously people will have their own reactions, and interpretations of it. I just don't understand why some people wont acknowledge that there is clearly a way of reading it which a LOT of people share, so they aren't plucking it out of thin air, and it isn't as simple as telling them to 'lighten up'.

MollyTheMole · 10/12/2011 12:29
Xmas Shock

No I agree there are different ways of interpreting adverts where the 'tagline' isnt glaringly obvious.

Lighten up though eh? Xmas Wink

LEttletownofBOFlehem · 10/12/2011 12:39
Xmas Grin
Tinselperion · 10/12/2011 12:39

noble my DH thought it was an ad warning about the dangers of unauthorised minicabs during the christmas season!

I didn't like it either and it didn't make me want to buy a dress at HN. The girls might all have been a similar size but they really overdid it with the majority of them tugging their tops up and skirts down to emphasise that they're too fat for their clothes.

PigletJohn I doubt there is a thing in Harvey Nicks's womenswear that could go near a tumble dryer. Tis all vair posh. Perhaps he or she? sent the char off to "do what you can with it"?

Personally I'd have had the help looking for her coat and big bag.

BleurghUna · 10/12/2011 15:58

I feel sorry for those girls in the advert! They look so pathetic, staggering home in their too-short, too tight party frocks in the freezing cold. If they are "real" (as opposed to models/actors) do they know they are being filmed? I would be mortified if that was me!
And the skinny one who gets out of the taxi at the end - obviously wearing a HN frock - looks unbearably smug and her dress is badly fitting.
So, no I'm not just about to splurge at Harvey Nicks!

WorraLiberty · 10/12/2011 16:11

If they are "real" (as opposed to models/actors) do they know they are being filmed?

Tell me you're not serious please? Grin

spiderpig8 · 10/12/2011 17:37

The thing I find most interesting about the comments on here is the assumption by some that the uncomfortable looking women must be of a lower social class than the Harvey Nics shopper... Is that the ad being class-ist or us?

noblegiraffe · 10/12/2011 18:12

The dress the Harvey Nicks woman is wearing costs £690, which I think would put it out of the price range of most women.

KateFrothers · 10/12/2011 18:18

Ah but does it wash well Nobel?

noblegiraffe · 10/12/2011 18:23

Dry clean only I'm afraid.

noblegiraffe · 10/12/2011 18:24

I just noticed that it only comes in a size 8, 10 or 12.

JingleBelleDameSansMerci · 10/12/2011 18:24

But that's just money, not class...

I bet there are some ghastly sparkly numbers in their range too. Grin

KateFrothers · 10/12/2011 18:26

That's a shame. Even though I'm small enough for a baby poo coloured sack dress I couldn't be doing with spending all that money and footing dry cleaning bills on top.

JingleBelleDameSansMerci · 10/12/2011 18:28

Not sparkly but I think this number could give a very different look depending on the, erm, accessories...

ditavonteesed · 10/12/2011 18:31

I ahve to agree with earlier posts, the first woman dooes not look like she has a hangover, she looks vunerable and as is something awful has happened to her.

Bubbaluv · 11/12/2011 03:12

None of us knows what "class" any of these girls belongs to, so any assumptions made show more about our own preconceptions than anything else.
What makes you say that any of the first lot of girls isn't posh? What makes you assume that the well dressed girl at the end doesn't speak like Katie Price?
I know some beautifully dressed, slim girls who are as common as muck if you want to look at their "class" and I know some rather plummy girls who dress terribly. You can't tell by looking at them.
