Offensive. Judgemental. Patronising. Classist. Sexist.

The "cheap" frocked women looked like they'd been through some kind of sexual assault. Torn tights. Heads hung low. Arms about them in a protective way.
The posh HN woman looked kind of smug.

And where were the men?

I'm shocked at Harvey Nicks thinking this was a good idea. It wasn't.

Eliza22 · 15/12/2011 09:22

When I YouTubed this ad there was another Harvey Nic's gem of an advert.

Small dogs, being purchased as fashion accessories and wrapped up at the counter. All very Paris Hilton.

Bet the RSPCA didn't see the funny side of that one, either.

It's like their marketing department when all out, on both occasions, to offend.

MrsJAlfredPrufrock · 15/12/2011 09:51

You wouldn't rip your tights, sock a kebab at a bus stop, or walk barefoot in an ill-fitting dress if you were sober. It would work better as an ad for Perrier water. But it would still be sexist as male drunks = what larks, female drunks = tut tut.

scottishmummy · 15/12/2011 13:23

some folks are purposefully being obtuse and looking for socialsciencetatic reason to be offended

I have no strong feelings about the ad,certainly not offended

Merrythulu · 15/12/2011 13:25

I told DH about the ad and he said " So, basically HN's is saying, don't dress like a slapper, dress like a high-class prostitute instead?" Xmas Grin
We think it's a bloody awful ad too - and agree that it's misogynistic, completely out of touch with where feminine opinion needs to be heading, and just makes me want to do my 'touring gender issues workshops for secondary schools' even more.

farewellfigure · 15/12/2011 14:28

Where the hell were their coats? Brrrr. Maybe they were covered in sick under a table in the pub.

The last woman didn't look hungover either. Maybe you don't get a hangover if you drink Bolly.

AitchTwoOHoHoHo · 15/12/2011 21:23

lol at 'some folk are purposefully being obtuse'. Grin

LEttletownofBOFlehem · 15/12/2011 21:55

Yeah, don't encourage the proles to think, FGS- they might be dangerous. Let's keep them happy little consumerist drones, even if they can't afford everything that gets advertised. Don't question, don't think, don't learn anything- in fact, don't try to get beyond what your eleven year old self might reckon.

Who's being deliberately thick obtuse here?

scottishmummy · 16/12/2011 08:30

high indignation and socialsciencetastic explanations is really trying too hard but yes if one wants to look for some hegemony and conspiracy tosh to explain an innocuous ad then knock yourselves out. and of course mon the wee folk being held down by conspicuous wealthy shop and some swishy dresses, rise up And feel indignant.because gosh this ad it positively subvert and subjugate
