To find this Starbucks member of staff downright rude???

Just went to a toddler music and softplay session with DD and afterwards went for lunch at the on-site Starbucks. The 2 female members of staff in there are pretty miserable so and so's anyway - for example I bought a sausage bap, croque monsieur panini and cinnamon swirl and asked for a knife and was told 'wait a moment' ??!

Anyhoo I cut up the bap and panini for DD and I to share with the rather pathetic plastic knife and then when I went to cut up the cinnamon swirl noticed several of the plastic teeth of the knife had come off and were attached to the bottom of the cake!!

Took said cake back and despite there being only 1 customer practically had to do a star jump to get their attention Hmm and told them what had happened and could I have a new cake. They reluctantly got one and then told me that 'you have to be careful using the knives' WTF 'I used it to cut a sandwich and a bun not saw through a table!!' and that that's why they don't really give them out and they are only really meant for the pasta salads!! Cos obv you need a knife for a pasta salad!!

I was somewhat taken aback at these comments but coming home am really peeved at the rudeness and the fact that they supply something that isn't fit for purpose and lets face it - if that's what happens when you cut something those knives shouldn't be used as chances are you might end up eating some of the plastic teeth as they are so small!!

Am going to write to Starbucks I think and suggest that maybe they should provide 'real' cutlery in their stores and teach their staff some customer service skills.........

Grrr Angry rant over!!!!!

Gosh life sounds really hard for you

I think you are over reacting. If you'd like to get worked up about some stuff there's plenty of stuff going on that is more important than plastic cutlery and Danish pastries.

I'm happy to point you in the right direction.

ruddynorah · 09/12/2011 13:37

You said it was a pathetic looking knife, thus you have to be careful. Most people don't cut stuff up at Starbucks they just eat it. Not sure about the starjumps. Did you go to the counter and say hello?

ColdTurkeyRemains · 09/12/2011 13:40

Are the bits on knives called teeth?
[interested]

WhiteTrash · 09/12/2011 13:41

Poor you.

WouldbeAdopter · 09/12/2011 13:42

Oh get a Grip!!! It doesnt actually sound like they were very rude at all although I think i'd have been rude to you if you were jumping up and making a show for everyoine to see!

ShengdanRoad · 09/12/2011 13:43

First world problems.

DoesNotGiveAFig · 09/12/2011 13:43

Everyone's being a bit rude to you OP! I'd write to starbucks, more with the concern about the plastic knife - that is dangerous.

KateFrothers · 09/12/2011 13:43

The pointy bits on a fork are called tines

beeny · 09/12/2011 13:43

I think you war right to be annoyed. We all know there is plenty of other stuff going on,so what.

thebigkahuna · 09/12/2011 13:43

Haha, this is the kind of thing that would piss me right too. So I'm going to throw you a YANBU.

Don't write a letter though, just seethe inwardly in righteous indignation whenever you think of it Grin

Soccermom2 · 09/12/2011 13:43

YABU, Could you not have just taken the bits of plastic out rather than waste the cake?

Also, so what if they asked you to 'wait a moment'? Maybe they were in the middle of something!

KateFrothers · 09/12/2011 13:44

Seriously Fig?

thebigkahuna · 09/12/2011 13:44

piss me right off, obv.

recall · 09/12/2011 13:45

I think you have a valid point YANBU, miserable bastards !

KateFrothers · 09/12/2011 13:45

Is your purse also a bit small for your £50 notes and your diamond shoes a bit pinchy OP? Wink

DoesNotGiveAFig · 09/12/2011 13:46

Kate Yes. It's dangerous to give out cutlery that breaks off into your food. But if you want to look down on the OP because she's not whinging about "important" things, go ahead.

SuePurblybiltbyElves · 09/12/2011 13:47

I do like the detail though. 'toddler music and softplay session'. Excellent.

CaptainMartinCrieff · 09/12/2011 13:47

This would annoy me too... But not enough to rant in AIBU.
Smile

Laquitar · 09/12/2011 13:48

Can't you use your hands for the cake?

picnicbasketcase · 09/12/2011 13:48

Well, maybe they should have told you that their knives are plastic and not really strong enough to cut stuff up with and that you'd be better off just breaking things up with your fingers. But getting irate about what is just a minor inconvenience is a bit daft. No offence.

Liluri · 09/12/2011 13:49

There is no excuse for rudeness - surly staff are hardly a recipe for repeat custom.
I don't understand why a retail outlet that charges £65 for a coffee can't supply proper cutlery.
If sure it's not because they are concerned about customers getting a bit stabby - a demented latte slurper could probably do more damage with one of their biscotti than with a metal knife.

Write to them and let them know about your experience - that's the only way they'll be able to improve.

TattyDevine · 09/12/2011 13:49

I hate this kind of thing. Not directed at Starbucks, sorry, directed at the OP. Its this kind of attitude that encourages the 'Elf n safety gawn mad thing.

Obviously a plastic serrated knife can break. They are not really used for that kind of thing. If they gave you a real knife and your daughter grabbed it that would have presumably also been their fault.

Its this kind of thing that means you can't get hot water to heat a jar of food or get them to zap something for you in the microwave.

Write in, go on. Next time there will be no knives for the pasta saladers - it will be a case of "health and safety, sorry, we only serve pureed foods now and soup. Actually, not soup, because someone burned themselves on it. Which means coffee is also out too. Frappe, anyone? Oh wait, there's a sharp edge on that straw"...

FFS etc.

FreudianSlipper · 09/12/2011 13:50

in your letter can you tell them to improve their coffee too. its pants but the cakes are good
