To find this Starbucks member of staff downright rude???

Just went to a toddler music and softplay session with DD and afterwards went for lunch at the on-site Starbucks. The 2 female members of staff in there are pretty miserable so and so's anyway - for example I bought a sausage bap, croque monsieur panini and cinnamon swirl and asked for a knife and was told 'wait a moment' ??!

Anyhoo I cut up the bap and panini for DD and I to share with the rather pathetic plastic knife and then when I went to cut up the cinnamon swirl noticed several of the plastic teeth of the knife had come off and were attached to the bottom of the cake!!

Took said cake back and despite there being only 1 customer practically had to do a star jump to get their attention Hmm and told them what had happened and could I have a new cake. They reluctantly got one and then told me that 'you have to be careful using the knives' WTF 'I used it to cut a sandwich and a bun not saw through a table!!' and that that's why they don't really give them out and they are only really meant for the pasta salads!! Cos obv you need a knife for a pasta salad!!

I was somewhat taken aback at these comments but coming home am really peeved at the rudeness and the fact that they supply something that isn't fit for purpose and lets face it - if that's what happens when you cut something those knives shouldn't be used as chances are you might end up eating some of the plastic teeth as they are so small!!

Am going to write to Starbucks I think and suggest that maybe they should provide 'real' cutlery in their stores and teach their staff some customer service skills.........

Grrr Angry rant over!!!!!

Sorry Chaos. It was totally inappropriate and I apologise. Whole-heartedly.

I went a bit bonkers at the idea a grown woman needs to be told a plastic knife is not as good as a normal knife and having to get a new cake and getting a new cake and still being annoyed because the issuing of the new cake was not good enough and and fig is being mean to me and

donnie · 09/12/2011 14:00

round my way people have their own knives for these things. But then, they also wear stab vests Grin and have pit bull terriers attached to their arms.

thebigkahuna · 09/12/2011 14:01

True fanjo. And they shouldn't serve coffee and cakes, just water and gruel.

And the waiting staff should be able to poke them with sticks without fear of reprisal.

ItWasABoojum · 09/12/2011 14:01

I can't believe you would waste a cake when you could have picked the bits of plastic off. Seriously - didn't you feel even slightly guilty?

DoesNotGiveAFig · 09/12/2011 14:02

I'm not being mean I'm perfectly reasonable.

You're the one being a high and mighty cow to the OP.

DoesNotGiveAFig · 09/12/2011 14:02

NOW THAT WAS MEAN!

ljgibbs · 09/12/2011 14:02

FFS! why didn't you just pick the plastic bits out. It was your fault they were in the cake to begin with.

rookiemater · 09/12/2011 14:02

Well I think it is massively important to be able to whinge about non working cutlery, clearly a hugely important issue and perhaps worthy of a jolly whinge in Chat.

However the OP instead seems to be explaining how lovely her life is and then having a huge moan that the staff were not as deferential as she would expect. That is why she is getting slated. Sorry OP am usually very nice to people and if you have a genuine problem I will be supportive. I got a very heavy bashing several years ago when I said that having to taste DS's formula milk at airport security would be stressful.

Grin at donnie

No way am I hiding this thread Fig. I am enjoying this far too much Grin

DoesNotGiveAFig · 09/12/2011 14:03

It is quite fun.

Laquitar · 09/12/2011 14:03

Did you use the same knife for the sausage and then for the cake?

Did you have to lick the knife between?

DoesNotGiveAFig · 09/12/2011 14:04

That's health and safety. Licking knives indeed.

Valpollicella · 09/12/2011 14:04

CTR, they are called serrations

HTH

RachelHRD · 09/12/2011 14:04

Blimey some unusual replies on here - forgive me but I thought that AIBU was for this sort of stuff Hmm

They were rude - the lady behind me was as stunned as I was and maybe I didn't make it clear enough but my main concern was that there were bits of plastic in the food which I was sharing with my 22 month old!! The 'wait a moment' came as she was putting the cake on a plate and it wasn't as if I demanded it there an then!!

I wasn't jumping up and down or making a fuss just trying to get their attention by looking at them whilst they twiddled with their hair weren't serving other customers

I have written to Starbucks about the poor quality of the cutlery and food contamination issue which is the key point here...

Kate WTF are you going on about - it was a treat for my DD, I'm not rolling in it and I am perfectly aware that there are more important issues in the world - my DD has major health issues and regardless of that I don't particularly want her eating bits of plastic with her lunch!!! Go snipe at someone else there's a dear........

thebigkahuna · 09/12/2011 14:05

I wonder if they have a policy on bringing your own cutlery, Donnie?

Possibly if you order a pasta salad - those pasta salad types always get the best treatment.

KateFrothers · 09/12/2011 14:05

Laquitar!

Did you call me a cow Fig?!

donnie · 09/12/2011 14:06

this'll go down as one of the classics !

DoesNotGiveAFig · 09/12/2011 14:06

Moo. You said I was being mean and I wasn't. So then I was.

Sad
KateFrothers · 09/12/2011 14:07

I think I've been quite clear Rachel. I am saying don't sweat it. It's small potatoes.

But I have enjoyed your thread immensely so thank you.

Oh btw, that wasn't sniping. You'd know about it if I did Smile.

KateFrothers · 09/12/2011 14:09

Oh don't be upset Fig! I can't cope if you were upset with me and Rachel has to cut up her own Danish pastries with substandard cutlery.

It's all too much!

Hullygully · 09/12/2011 14:09

I HAVE NEVER HEARD ANYTHING LIKE IT IN ALL MY LIFE

DoesNotGiveAFig · 09/12/2011 14:09

Kate Grin

ScatterChasse · 09/12/2011 14:09

Why can't they just give you a metal knife?

Surely plastic ones are for take-away things.

Some common sense would be useful. If you are in a coffee shop and they are already washing plates and buckets coffee cups, they could just use metal cutlery.

SuePurblybiltbyElves · 09/12/2011 14:10

They could have cut it for you, with their Knives Of Steel Ask them to do that next time.

ljgibbs · 09/12/2011 14:11

But it was your fault the food was contaminated.
