To find this Starbucks member of staff downright rude???

Just went to a toddler music and softplay session with DD and afterwards went for lunch at the on-site Starbucks. The 2 female members of staff in there are pretty miserable so and so's anyway - for example I bought a sausage bap, croque monsieur panini and cinnamon swirl and asked for a knife and was told 'wait a moment' ??!

Anyhoo I cut up the bap and panini for DD and I to share with the rather pathetic plastic knife and then when I went to cut up the cinnamon swirl noticed several of the plastic teeth of the knife had come off and were attached to the bottom of the cake!!

Took said cake back and despite there being only 1 customer practically had to do a star jump to get their attention Hmm and told them what had happened and could I have a new cake. They reluctantly got one and then told me that 'you have to be careful using the knives' WTF 'I used it to cut a sandwich and a bun not saw through a table!!' and that that's why they don't really give them out and they are only really meant for the pasta salads!! Cos obv you need a knife for a pasta salad!!

I was somewhat taken aback at these comments but coming home am really peeved at the rudeness and the fact that they supply something that isn't fit for purpose and lets face it - if that's what happens when you cut something those knives shouldn't be used as chances are you might end up eating some of the plastic teeth as they are so small!!

Am going to write to Starbucks I think and suggest that maybe they should provide 'real' cutlery in their stores and teach their staff some customer service skills.........

Grrr Angry rant over!!!!!

Yes. tear the food. Tear it with your teeth and growl while you do so.

And I too wonder about the detaching serrations and Newton's Ninth Law.

YusMilady · 09/12/2011 14:37

Leave it OP. You don't want to get on the wrong side of the NUB (National Union of Baristas). You'll never drink an un-spat-in gingerbread latte again.

Valpollicella · 09/12/2011 14:38

The knives could have been very old and the plastic had gone brittle maybe Line?

Bloodymary · 09/12/2011 14:39

Has anyone else notice the smileys are not working Smile Grin Xmas Wink

OrmIrian · 09/12/2011 14:41

DS2 takes plastic forks to school to eat salad (often pasta salad as it happens) - the head bit comes away from the handle leaving a potentially dangerous object. Someone could get a nasty scratch! I shall make him suck it up with a big straw next time.

RachelHRD · 09/12/2011 14:42

LoL Kate - every time I post in AIBU I think shall I do it?? I will learn one day - yes it was nice apart from that and DD thoroughly enjoyed her very unhealthy lunch and grinning and waving at all the extremely hunky rugby players in the cafe as did I Wink not waving I hasten to add

Liking the plastic knife analysis.....I shall stick to Costas and their metal weapons in the future.......

Tatty I am totally anti the whole H&S ridiculousness of having to point out a cup of coffee is hot btw - I would be perfectly happy with a metal knife - just not something that breaks into the food we are eating....

Funniest damn thing I've read in ages! And seriously OP - if this really is all you have to get yourself in a hissy fit about then your life can't be all that bad. Sorry you're depressed but that shouldn't stop you going out for a coffee ffs. As for being told to 'wait a minute' it might have served you well to check how many pairs of hands the poor girl had before you went on to self combust in a huge cloud of righteous indignation? Have you ever worked with the public before? I'm surprised she didn't stick the knife right up your craw to be honest!

RachelHRD · 09/12/2011 14:45

Oh flip I've broken the Mumsnet emoticons [proud smiley]......

Has anyone frothed about a panini yet?

FlossieFromCrapstonVillas · 09/12/2011 14:46

You were in a Starbucks where you were the only customer waiting to be served?

Do show me where this hidden gem is, op. Every one around here is always packed to the rafters!

Hullygully · 09/12/2011 14:48

What are these stupid names?

Barrista. You make the bloody coffee dear.

Panini. You are a toasted sandwich.

ShirleyKnot · 09/12/2011 14:49

Blimey Menopausal - "OP YOU'RE LUCKY SHE DIDN'T STAB YOU IN THE NECK!"

crikey!

SuePurblybiltbyElves · 09/12/2011 14:50

Fuck off Shirley, you troll.

did it work yet?

Hullygully · 09/12/2011 14:50

Fair point I thought, Shirl.

KateFrothers · 09/12/2011 14:51

Panini you are at least two toasted sandwiches, sold at a heavily marked up price.

I'm still frothing at the Tory woman on last night's Question Time using referenda as the plural of referendum. She was wrong, smug and supercilious

Hullygully · 09/12/2011 14:51

Oh I missed that. damn.

SuePurblybiltbyElves · 09/12/2011 14:52

Paninis are greasy little fuckers though. I'd rather have a toasted sandwich.

Quenelle · 09/12/2011 14:54

Careful AWimbaAllTheWay you won't be popular if you get Santa the sack.

RachelHRD · 09/12/2011 14:54

OMG I'm not sure whether I should be proud of horrifed that people think this is a wind up Blush - no it really is my sad little life Wink

Ormiron are you really saying that a knife (the only knife) they provide shouldn't be used to cut things???!!!!

Menopause I have worked in customer service and I am always polite to shop/cafe staff as I know how shitty members of the public can be - believe me her reply was snotty as was her service in general - I've witnessed it before....I wasn't indignant, just polite.

If this gets into the classics I will be very proud :)

Quenelle · 09/12/2011 14:54

Geddit? :D

StealthPolarBear · 09/12/2011 14:55

"Sorry you're depressed but that shouldn't stop you going out for a coffee ffs"
Can I nominate that for empathetic post of the week?

JenaiMarrHePlaysGuitar · 09/12/2011 14:55

I only ever eat panina.

SuePurblybiltbyElves · 09/12/2011 14:56

Fucking racialamalist, Shirl. You and your sock puppets.

OrmIrian · 09/12/2011 14:56

I'm not saying anything, I was just suggesting it!

it might be the reason there aren't any metal knives

I don't think it would make me cross though apart from a feeling of irritation at the general cussedness of things.
