@ Marriedandwreathedinholly. The government and the super-rich corporates want workers to fight for crumbs while they take most of the biscuit. Private sector employees (I'm actually a small employer by the way) shouldn't be begruding the public sector workers for getting a pension. They should be asking why, when many companies post record profits every year, that their rights are taken away and they have no pension. We shouldn't be dragging people down, we should be demanding better for everyone. Many people have 'crabs in a barrell mentality' in that they want to drag everyone down to the bottom, which helps nobody.

I once read something which I thought was so true. Not sure if I've got it 100% right but it goes something like this:

'A big boss, a private sector employee and a public sector employee are in a room and there's a plate of 12 biscuits. Immediately the big boss takes 11 of the biscuits then turns around to the private sector employee and says ' you better watch the public sector employee, he's going to take you're biscuit'.

marriedandwreathedinholly · 01/12/2011 17:22

I'm a public sector worker and a pensions specialist. The TPS is still one of the most generous schemes there is. My employer's pension contribution into my LGPS is almost twice what I pay. It is worth thousands of pounds a year. I will have to pay a little bit more in the future and I will have to work until I am 67. Everyone in the UK will have to work until they are 67 and that is a very important point that the teachers are missing.

My DH is self employed - he has a pension scheme - he has to fund it in its entirety and he does not have the job security afforded to many public sector workers, including teachers. In the last two years he has taken five weeks of holiday and if he were to be seriously ill, much of his business would be lost very quickly.

YABU to listen to anything JC says, he is a prize knob.

tametiger · 01/12/2011 17:36

Have just listened to Radio 4 being all super-shocked about JC's comments. I can't believe so many people have wasted time complaining about him (5,000 so far). Some lefty harridan even compared him to Gadaffi!!!! If you don't like him, ignore him. I think it's really heartening that so many MNers agree - I was kind of expecting a great moral-outrage fest on here Grin.

Jeremy has apologised:
www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-15993549
Mr Clarkson said he had not intended for the comments on The One Show to be taken seriously and was "happy to apologise" if offence had been caused.

Wondering what Unison's next move is.

kreechergotstuckupthechimney · 01/12/2011 17:48

I haven't waded through eight pages, but did see the interview. He said it because he was bored off his tits by those two vacuous, and in Alex's case, thick interviewers.

NICEyNice · 01/12/2011 17:50

kreechergotstuckupthechimney if JC gets the sack, we have the joy of more Matt and Alex clones gracing our screens.

kreechergotstuckupthechimney · 01/12/2011 17:56

Yep, but I don't honestly think that he wil be sacked. He is too valuable to the BBC for that to happen.
I don't like or dislike him, I think the word is indifferent. He is preferable to those two simpering ninnies.

Avantia · 01/12/2011 17:57

UNISON should ignore his comments and concentrate on getting their members the right deal .

If I was a member of UNISON and they pursued this Clarkson issue then I would be taking my monthly subs elsewhere.

UNISON are the only ones that have come out bad in this .

UNISON general secretary said ,

"We are seeking urgent legal advice about what further action we can take against him and the BBC, and whether or not his comments should be referred to the police."

GET A GRIP ! Grin

KatieScarlett2833 · 01/12/2011 17:57

I am a PSW and have a secret crush on JC. Blush I totally would.

I'm going to hell, aren't I?

Kayano · 01/12/2011 18:01

No Katie. I would too

NICEyNice · 01/12/2011 18:05

TurkeyBurgerThing said on the first page of this thread.

I find it amazing still that there were TWO actual women having sex with him during the same period. TWO! Two women fancied Jeremy Clarkson. The mind boggles...

I think we are now up to 5 based on the worrying confessions from MN.

Avantia · 01/12/2011 18:05

In response to the apology by Clarkson , UNISON have said ,

?We are pleased Jeremy Clarkson has seen the error of his ways. It is only right the he apologises for the huge offence he caused to public sector workers and their families.

?We would like to invite him to spend a day on a hospital ward, with one of our healthcare assistants. They do vital work caring for patients ? cleaning up sick, bathing patients, and wiping bottoms. We think he has many of the personal skills necessary for the job.?

Oh I would love to be in a hospital ward when Clarkson came along he would at least make the patients cheer up .

NICEyNice · 01/12/2011 18:10

Didn't they say earlier:

An apology is not enough ? we are calling on the BBC to sack Jeremy Clarkson immediately. Such disgusting statements have no place on our TV screens

I wonder if that is how they negotiate!

AFuckingFestiveKnackeredWoman · 01/12/2011 18:14

UNISON are coming across as bonkers!!

KatieScarlett2833 · 01/12/2011 18:16

I know it's worrying NICEy

That's why it is a secret crush. It's quite inexplicable.

microcow · 01/12/2011 18:39

can't really believe some of the comments on here!

he should be sacked

marriedandwreathedinholly · 01/12/2011 18:39

Well, if he did work as a care assistant for a day or two I'm sure he would say please and thank you and cheer up a few elderly people - might even have sufficient respect to actually ask if they are happy for him to use their first name!. He might even make a few comments about the service as it really is and something might happen to improve it.

Methe · 01/12/2011 18:47

Someone on the radio lust now likened JC to Gadaffi. WTAF.

Avantia · 01/12/2011 19:31

microcow - why should he be sacked ?

What comments can't you believe ?

spiderpig8 · 01/12/2011 19:36

Public sector employees need a reality check.
They still have a fab pension package compared with most people.People in the private sector have pensions which are performing far short of what was projected.

Sparklingbrook · 01/12/2011 19:41

If he carries out the firing squad thing then he probably should be sacked, but if he doesn't I think he should stay. Anyway he has flown off to China to film Top Gear so nobody need fear for their life just yet.

dancingmustard · 01/12/2011 19:48

Jezza is hilarious.

Because he says what's on his mind and winds the tick tocks up into a frenzy.
