AIBU to think he is a prize prat I don't care if he is trying to be funny and shocking he is just another reason why I never have and never will vote Tory.

Who?

Sparklingbrook · 02/12/2011 07:53

If they aren't careful Unison may lose any respect they currently have......

AnyFucker · 02/12/2011 07:57

I found JC's comments about railway suicides "bursting themselves" on the tracks much more offensive

Suicide is a joke to be subjected to puerile "off the cuff" comments now, is it ?

Not in my world. And not at 7pm when my children are in the room, and ask me what he meant

His comments about the strikers, I would totally expect from him, no surprises there esp as he has something to sell

And yes, I heard every word he said, in real time, and no I have not taken them out of context

crazycrackernanna · 02/12/2011 08:06

I think the poster was talking about the GMB official on the news,Ususal

Good point about racism, though, when peopel used to say "'Twas a joke...get a sense of humour" Just like Gervais with his nasty disablist comments "Twas just a joke"

Cameron should be tied to a plank of wood and placed in the middle of the M1..hey get a sense of humour...it's just a joke....not.

Esta3GG · 02/12/2011 08:07

Clarkson is a dick but he can say what he likes. Doesn't bother me on iota. I just ignore it.
I actually think in this instance the unions are being very foolish. Taken in context it was just the usual Clarkson spiel.

Now if Twat Cameron had said it (and probably deep down he wishes he could) then we'd have a serious problem.
But when some overpaid ugly git off a car show says it - who the hell cares?

Alibabaandthe80nappies · 02/12/2011 08:10

AF I agree, the suicide comments were dreadful and IMO what he should be being reprimanded over, not what was obviously a joke about the strikers.

working9while5 · 02/12/2011 09:17

I don't like JC, I was striking (if not entirely whole-heartedly, mainly because I couldn't bring myself to pass a picket line of my colleagues and feel that I was supporting the government instead of the people I work with) BUT I agree wholeheartedly, there is FAR too much outrage about this and it plays right into the hands of the "ah but it's only a joke" people. It's embarrassing that it is getting the heavy-handed PC reaction it's getting.

Not a massive fan of Stewart Lee but there are some funny bits on this topic [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w0i0RXMvzMs here].

working9while5 · 02/12/2011 09:17

Oops
here

velvetvamp · 02/12/2011 10:11

Anyone taking what he said literally should probably be shot themselves. It'd take care of the easily offended gene that's been boring the life out of me lately.

inhibernation · 02/12/2011 10:52

He's a tosser. The unions shouldn't give him any additional press imo. I was on strike but I wasn't offended - I just thought typical.......stupid tosser.

Animation · 02/12/2011 10:58

"Cameron should be tied to a plank of wood and placed in the middle of the M1..hey get a sense of humour...it's just a joke....not."

Xmas Grin

Mumsnetters on good form today!!

olakel · 02/12/2011 10:58

I think Clarkson is hilarious and people need to stop screaming offense at every little thing. If Unison try and involve the police then they are even more stupid than I thought they were and I thought they were pretty dense.

AnyFucker · 02/12/2011 16:20

Jeremy has apologised

So what ?

I couldn't give a shit what he thinks about public sector workers. He is one of the right wing "privatise the shit outta the UK's best assets" gang of nobheads

But comments that he made about suicide in the earshot of children should not be on our screens

I don't understand why there hasn't been more of a fuss made about that

what next ?

a member of my family committed suicide by throwing herself under a train...my 11yo said "did X burst herself under a train, what did he (JC) mean mum ?"

I don't need reminding of visual imagery like that, and I certainly don't want my dc worrying about it either

inhibernation · 02/12/2011 16:49

Anyfucker - I agree with you there. Didn't think about the time of day but yes that's quite crucial.

microcow · 02/12/2011 17:06

agree with anyfucker and what exactly was the 'joke' aren't they meant to be funny.

he's a twat and i hate paying the licence to keep that idiot on the tv.

people dying in horrific ways is hilarious dontcha know

particularly when you advocate just proceeding to drive the train right over their body so Jeremy doesn't miss his latest knees-up with his Fucking Right Wing Nobhead Mates

can't I take a joke ? Humourless leftie I am ....

I expect the sexee Jeremy would call me a dungaree-wearing, hairy-legged feminist who doesn't like sex too.

That's about his level.

he deserves special praise for his "humour" that twat...

giveitago · 02/12/2011 17:16

How, then, should JC be punished?

mary, I saw every word

I haven't time to find it now, but it has been reported on, I saw a transcript of it earlier today (but not since then, which is a fucking travesty, IMO)

the news moves so fast though, have lost it now

he said (in relation to transport delays) "why do trains have to stop when people burst themselves on the tracks...we can't help them can we?" He mentioned Reading being a favourite place for people "bursting themselves" and train delays. What the fuck that is suppoed to mean, I cannot guess.

Not funny. Not a joke. Not even close. Not even the attention-sseking shock value nature of what he thinks he is doing can justify that. At 7pm.

giveitago · 02/12/2011 17:25

Perhaps we need the watershed thingy moved to a later time.

The thing that gets me is that our society is not so much a multicultural one but more a multiexperience one and perhaps we need to modify our behavour based on that.

Gotta say I had an uncle that was murdered (or so we think as I'm quite old and the case was never solved - we know duncle was murdered but by whom?). I was brought up knowing this man was murdered in a very differeent time - I wasn't damaged by anything that was said to me by way of personal comment or by the media but I guess these are different times now and we are far more delicate.

But I did grow up in a famly where a memer WAS murdered and I grew up fine inspite of comments. I wouldn't take legal action.

And an uncle committed suicide in a way that I won't report here as my cousins would identify themselves. His kids will have seen this and won't be baying for his blood.

Different times now I guess.
