AIBU to think he is a prize prat I don't care if he is trying to be funny and shocking he is just another reason why I never have and never will vote Tory.

Matt Baker does that to everyone. This is because he likes a spine and a personality. Its not down to his professional skills. He has default setting of 'Nice but incredibly dull'.

edam · 01/12/2011 14:08

I like Top Gear - makes me laugh. But this comment reminds me why so many people loathe Jeremy. Even more stupid given he apparently had said he supported the strikes. He earns his wages from the taxpayer fgs - his other earnings are all dependant on his role as presenter of Top Gear.

Alibabaandthe80nappies · 01/12/2011 14:10

malinois - he professes as desire to shoot people all the time on Top Gear, so this is hardly anything new.

People who drive slowly, 'golfists', Americans, anyone who drives a Prius.

I hope Unison are prosecuted for wasting police time!

If Unison were to hire a PR person right now they would probably recruit Arthur Scargill!

nicknamenotinuse · 01/12/2011 14:19

he is a total twat.

I found it funny, thought it was completely tongue in cheek.

Not terribly clever of unison

NICEyNice · 01/12/2011 16:27

That article is v good. That Unison statement is total idiocy. If JC is a knob, then this lot just pipped him to the Annual Knobber of The Year Award with a master stroke.

NICEyNice · 01/12/2011 16:34

Full transcript. Doesn't look so much as if he supported the strikes afterall. That said looking at what Matt and Alex said at first, it almost looks like he was put up to deliberately say something offensive by the programme.

Matt Baker: Now, at the end of a day where Britain has seen some of its biggest strikes, what we need is someone calm and level-headed.

Alex Jones: Yep, a guest with balanced, uncontroversial opinions, who makes great effort not to offend.

Matt Baker: And we've got Jeremy Clarkson!

[studio laughs]

Jeremy Clarkson: Thank you very much.

Matt Baker: So Jeremy, schools, hospitals, airports, even driving tests have been affected. Do you the strikes are a good idea?

Jeremy Clarkson: It's been fantastic. Seriously, never had ? London today has just been empty. Everybody stayed at home, you could whizz about, your restaurants were empty.

Alex Jones: The traffic actually has been very good today.

Jeremy Clarkson: Very light. Now airports, you know, people streaming through with no problems at all and it's also like being back in the 70s, it makes me feel at home somehow.

Alex Jones: Do you know anybody who ?

Matt Baker: [interrupts ? inaduiable] ? being on strike today?

Jeremy Clarkson: What, in public service? Of course I don't. No, absolutely. We have to balance it though, don't we because this is the BBC.

Alex Jones and Matt Baker: Exactly.

Jeremy Clarkson: Frankly, I'd have them all shot!

[studio laughs]

Jeremy Clarkson: I would take them outside and execute them in front of their families. I mean how dare they go on strike when they've got these gilt-edged pensions that are going to be guaranteed while the rest of us have to work for a living?

Matt Baker: Well, on that note of balancing an opinion of course those are Jeremy's views.

Jeremy Clarkson: I just ? ! I was just giving two views for you!

Alex Jones: Well, we will be talking to Jeremy more later.

EnjoyResponsibly · 01/12/2011 16:39

Surely Unison have got better things to do with actually brokering a deal for their members than getting all huffity about Clarkson.

I love JC. When he's not shooting people he can actually be quite thought provoking. Plus he makes me laugh til a bit of wee comes out and I've had some very nice dreams too Blush

picnicbasketcase · 01/12/2011 16:43

Jeremy Clarkson is a fucking idiot. I hope he googles his own name and reads this.

DogStinkhorn · 01/12/2011 16:45

He's got a Tory misogynistic bigoted wank book to flog. The saddest thing is the sheep like fools that agree with him and think that their opinion is right because he's said it.

noddyholder · 01/12/2011 16:46

He is an arse. He is up there with Gove with me for objectionable bastard of the year award

EnjoyResponsibly · 01/12/2011 16:49

He's successfully managed to divert the headlines today. All the headlines I've heard have centred on this, the strike and what happens next is getting drowned out.

noddyholder · 01/12/2011 16:56

They probably orchestrated that! The economy is up shit creek but not much on news about that-yet!

Lexie1970 · 01/12/2011 16:57

aaaahh guardianistas getting their knickers in a twist over Jermey Clarkson.

Do you not realise you are not supposed to take him seriously you silly people .........

EnjoyResponsibly · 01/12/2011 16:59

That's my point. I'm no PR expert, but letting Clarkson lose on the Beeb on the day of the strikes is a masterstroke in changing the subject. Whoever booked him must surely be getting a super Chrstmas present from Tory HQ.

Capricorn76 · 01/12/2011 17:06

Ha ha ha bingo!! Did I not say that someone would say that if you don't like JC you must be a Guardian reader or if you hate Cameron you love 'Bliar'?

Anyway JC's apologised now. Cameron probably went round his gaff and told him to stop showing him up, after all, JC's probably only saying what they all joke about round the dinner table in Chipping Norton with regards to ungrateful oiks, it just wasn't supposed to end up on tv.

marriedandwreathedinholly · 01/12/2011 17:08

Good old Jezza. Unison members really must listen carefully to the advice of their reps - they can be sure it is always measured and supported by integrity. Grin

If the strikers are shot anyone thought about the queue of unemployed not presently with any pension at all who might be waiting eagerly to jump into their jobs. Any strikers thinking about how lucky they are to have a job, a pension, a monthly salary, paid holidays, a future, hope, presents round the Christmas tree this year?

Capricorn76 · 01/12/2011 17:08

Actually Enjoyresponsibly, you may have a point. It was successful in diverting news from the strike. Maybe it was planned all along...

lljkk · 01/12/2011 17:14

omg, having just heard the remarks in context, I can't believe that this is even a story; he was obviously being silly and trying to say something totally ridiculous.
ffs.
I don't even like Clarkson, but he's done nothing wrong.

TheFoosa · 01/12/2011 17:15

good old Daily Mash
