He was a genius. A legend, a musically and vocally gifted man. His dance routines were revolutionary and are copied the world over. He wrote most of his own songs, sang live whilst dancing astonishing moves, his concert performances were mesmerising. His music videos were ground-breaking.

They don't come more genius than him.

ArnoldJudasRimmer · 21/07/2021 16:49

Oh this thread is old! Still, if we're purely judging his music then I think he was a musical genius and very talented.

He had great promoters that’s for sure! Are you one of them? 🤣

I've got to the end of page 3. Is no one going to mention the elephant in the room?

knittingaddict · 21/07/2021 18:21

Bloody ZOMBIE thread. Angry

Now I know why no one was talking about the fact that he was an abuser.

The genius of MJ was largely Quincy Jones - producer/arranger.

BrozTito · 21/07/2021 20:31

Nooooooooo thats ignoraaaaaant

BrozTito · 21/07/2021 20:34

I find it really disturbing when his fans call him 'michael'

OhWhyNot · 21/07/2021 20:54

Billie Jean is one of the best pop songs ever

Off the Wall is brilliant. After Bad his music went downhill apart form the odd song

As a performer he was amazing from a child he was just incredible

As a person absolutely vile

TheSunShinesBrighter · 21/07/2021 21:09

I just find it weird that people still talk so highly of him.

Let’s say he was a genius and made ammmazzzing music (debatable) He’s still left a disgusting legacy.

Another example - Harvey Weinstein has made some brilliant films - he’s still a repulsive individual.

TheSunShinesBrighter · 21/07/2021 21:10

Talk so highly of him as a person that is.

Smokeymirror · 21/07/2021 21:15

Yanbu and his dancing was revolting almost masturbating him self at times (and he professed to be so ‘innocent’ )and little kids copying was just awful!

Drivingmeupthewall · 21/07/2021 21:18

It really wasn’t shit, I really liked some of his eras, it’s a shame I can never listen to it ever again. Ever. The Earth Song came on my phone the other day and I had to skip 😬

purdypuma · 21/07/2021 21:18

I get that Jackson was talented but theres only a couple of his songs that I like & I really don't get the hero worshipping of him especially given the allegations made against hin re child abuse. Tbh it wouldn't surprise me if these were proven true in the future.

Madonna was good in the 80's & 90's but I think past this she's come across as desperate to be relevant & she's never had the greatest voice.

Lady Gaga I was never particularly interested in until we got some freebie tickets to see her at Sheffield arena a good few years back. I was really surprised at the energy she has & her voice is a lot better than I expected. Seen a documentary about her since & she's surprisingly down to earth but insecure at the sand time. Still not a super fan but would definately go & see her again.

@Pedallleur

Hindsight ismarvellous. His stuff with the Jacksons/Jackson 5 is superb - 'I want you back' is a classic. The Off The Wall/Thriller era was about the production as well as the artist. A lot of groundreaking techniques came through those albums via Quincy Jones,Rod Temperton (Boogie Nights) and a host of musicians and new recording eqpt. BillieJean,Thriller etc were of the time.
He didn't write the Jackson 5 songs.
WalkingOnTheCracks · 21/07/2021 21:54

He didn’t even write ‘most’ of his solo stuff.

BrozTito · 21/07/2021 21:55

He didnt write most of them, some bloke from scunthorpe did
