Nasty voice, whiny, weak and high pitched.

mediocre pop shite at best.

and just whiny and bizarre when he decided he was he messiah.

Bollocks and crap.

He was the male equivalent of Beyonce - some talent hidden amongst shit loads of fucking tripe.

Abcinthia · 05/11/2011 16:12

YANBU.

I've always thought his music was mediocre. I could never understand why people called him the King of Pop.

Mind you I grew up thinking Weird Al Yankovich's Eat It was an actual Micheal Jackson song.

happymole · 05/11/2011 16:12

Yy, except Man in the Mirror, I like that. I far prefer Alien Ant Farm's version of Smooth Criminal.

Pedallleur · 05/11/2011 16:13

Hindsight ismarvellous. His stuff with the Jacksons/Jackson 5 is superb - 'I want you back' is a classic. The Off The Wall/Thriller era was about the production as well as the artist. A lot of groundreaking techniques came through those albums via Quincy Jones,Rod Temperton (Boogie Nights) and a host of musicians and new recording eqpt. BillieJean,Thriller etc were of the time.

limitedperiodonly · 05/11/2011 16:14

Everything from The Jackson 5 to Thriller was brilliant.

Afterwards he was dreadful but most artists don't even get to the boil, let alone get a chance to go off it.

AlwaysbeOpralFruitstome · 05/11/2011 16:15

Yup, plus he had ONE dance routine which was slightly rejigged for every naffing song. Pantaloons!

EricNorthmansMistress · 05/11/2011 16:15

Early music/dancing/performing - brilliant. Later stuff - rancid shite.

Bourbonchops · 05/11/2011 16:15

YABU if you're talking about his earlier work. Not so much the more recent stuff.

PersonalClown · 05/11/2011 16:16

Thank fuck someone agrees with me on the dancing.

It was just all grab crotch, point hand, grab hat and spin in various combos wasn't it?

MyChildDoesntNeedSleep · 05/11/2011 16:17

YABU.

LynetteScavo · 05/11/2011 16:20

I did think it was shit when he was alive.

Since his death it's grown on me. Hmm Maybe I now have a greater understanding of music, which is enabling this appreciation.

I wonder if I will start to like Cliff Richard songs when he's dead?

CotherMuckingFunt · 05/11/2011 16:22

Going by that thinking, Elvis is alive and well Grin

rycooler · 05/11/2011 16:22

You're talking rubbish if you think MJ couldn't dance - I can't believe what I'm reading - I'd like to see you on the dance floor!

Georgimama · 05/11/2011 16:22

Cliff? Man is a legend. His services to knitwear alone demanded the knighthood.

CotherMuckingFunt · 05/11/2011 16:24

I can't dance for shit but my mum taught me better than to twiddle my privates in public Wink

GetOrfMo1Land · 05/11/2011 16:26

I really used to like Off the Wall - brilliant album.

I watched the Thriller video a couple of days ago for the first time in years - I forgot how good it was.

But Billie Jean, Bad, all the rest of it - nah. And he was such a creepy fucker it put me right off him anyway.

Merrylegs · 05/11/2011 16:27

Hmm. I think his music possibly isn't a bit shit.

Human Nature is s-ue-perb.

But I agree, I think Quincy Jones had a lot to do with his good sounding stuff.

So yeah, on balance I think YABU.

Also, he might only have had one dance routine, but it was a very good one. (And bloody difficult if you are trying to follow da moves on the MJ Wii game. ahem)

HoneyPablo · 05/11/2011 16:30

YANBU
I really don't get why he is so popular. He was a very freaky freakiod.

BalloonSlayer · 05/11/2011 16:32

Oh agree!

That crotch grabby thing - < shudder >

And for that gulpy sort of gasp he used to do - made him sound like Frank Spencer.

LadyBeagleEyes · 05/11/2011 16:32

I'd put Man in the Mirror on my list as one of the best pop songs ever.

AurraSing · 05/11/2011 16:33

I can't help doing Jackson 5 dancing when they come on the radio, but never liked any of his solo stuff. ('the way you make me feel' is jacksons, isn't it?)

I thought the whole thriller malarky was pants.

AurraSing · 05/11/2011 16:33

Oww, yes and the crotch grabbing. Yuk

CogitoErgoSometimes · 05/11/2011 16:38

YABU... He was the soundtrack to the eighties. Not everyone's cup of tea but I only have to hear the first high-pitched 'OW!' from 'Don't Stop Til You Get Enough' and I'm right back there!!!...

HoneyPablo · 05/11/2011 16:40

He wasn't the soundtrack to my eighties, thank god.

LadyBeagleEyes · 05/11/2011 16:40

When I see old footage when he was that beautiful little boy singing with the Jackson Five, he was undeniably talented.
It is just so tragic what he turned into when he died.
