to think asking for honeymoon contributions from people you haven't invited to your wedding...

...is just a tiny bit gauche?

Not close to this couple so didn't expect a wedding invite. We're facebook friends (I was at uni with one partner but haven't seen them in years). Received a fb event invite titled 'Getting married' so thought for 5 seconds I'd have an excuse for a new frock, then realised it was an 'invitation' to all their fb friends to contribute to their honeymoon, whether invited or not.

Worst bit is, some people have obviously not read it properly and left a load of messages saying sorry they can't make it but thanks for thinking of them etc etc. The groom has now posted huffily saying that this isn't a wedding invite as they were sent out months ago, and this was 'clearly stated' on the event. AIBU to be boggling at the brass neck? And now wondering if I can pull a similar stunt to fund my next holiday?

Shock bloody hell!

HeidiKat · 04/10/2011 22:05

YABU, do you not know that they deserve a luxury, all expenses paid holiday at the expense of others just for the fact that they are saying a few vows and signing a bit of paper Grin.

TheTenantOfWildfellHall · 04/10/2011 22:06

Wow! Shock

The nerve of some people!

Trills · 04/10/2011 22:06

Hmm, yes, could you start a JustGiving page that was not for Charity but to go straight to your bank account?

I do hope some thick-skinned individuals turn up to the wedding

AuntiePickleBottom · 04/10/2011 22:06

now i am all for asking for cash present, but this is pure cheeky

madmomma · 04/10/2011 22:07

Gross. Really gross.

CocoPopsAddict · 04/10/2011 22:07

Hahaha... So tight.

MsHighwater · 04/10/2011 22:08

Now, I am perfectly happy with gift lists and don't even mind being asked for contributions to a honeymoon fund IF I'M INVITED TO THE DO. This takes the biscuit, indeed.

OTOH, a nice excuse to trim the "Friends" list?

That's priceless! Ooof, this one goes straight to top of the pile of the outrageously unreasonable wedding situations. Well done, OP!

LoveInAColdClimate · 04/10/2011 22:09

Whaaaaaaaaaaaat? This might actually be the rudest thing I have ever heard of. UADNBU.

aldiwhore · 04/10/2011 22:10

I'm usually quite chilled out as regards wedding requests but WHAT???

So rude its comedy genius!

Proon · 04/10/2011 22:11

Ha, that's hilarious!
People are so grasping when it comes to weddings. This is quite extreme though!

AuntiePickleBottom · 04/10/2011 22:11

sovery, i think the royal wedding started it all off as i know loads of people who have got married this year.

Pancakeflipper · 04/10/2011 22:11

brilliant and the thought of a coach load of FB buddies turning up uninvited makes me giggle even more.

The greed of some people is hilarious.

DesperatelySeekingSedatives · 04/10/2011 22:14

Shock dear fucking god! The bloody cheek!

mamaGool · 04/10/2011 22:17

WTAF? Shock

mumofbumblebea · 04/10/2011 22:23

ok i'm having a small wedding with just immediate family. i would never dream of asking for a wedding gift from people i haven't invited, some have offered to give us money towards a night away etc and i feel uncomfortable with that. OP YANBU

hellsbells76 · 04/10/2011 22:27

Oh I am LOVING the idea of organising a coachtrip and pretending we all misread it. We'll bring them a card (just one, signed by everyone) and drink the free bar dry.

Cheeky. As. F*ck.

No way would I contribute!

kelly2000 · 04/10/2011 22:37

Make it really awkward and post a public message asking, if it is not an invite what is it, so that way he has to write that he wants you to give him money. Then keeping leaving messages going "I am confused, you are nto inviting use to the wedding, but sent us all a message asking for cash?"

Hatwoman · 04/10/2011 22:38

that is so awful it has the makings of a viral story, like that awful mil to dil letter. unbelievable.

Fisharefriendsnotfood · 04/10/2011 22:40
