To wonder how the U.S can claim to be a civilised society whilst there is such a thing as Death Row?

There's probably been threads about this already...

But I just don't see how capital punishment can be an underpin of what the world regards as a civilised, modern society/country. What they did to Troy Davies yesterday can't be reversed. His supporters are still trying to prove his innocence and are confident that the gaping holes that they are finding in the case will prove it. So what will he get? A posthumous pardon? Yeah, great stuff that, America. Hmm

Yeah, someone corrected me on that by about post 6.

:)

Oh and stick your Google remark up your arse.

It's more than a couple of states, though, troisgarcons- roughly about a half do, and few more have in law, but have suspended it for time being.

But, yes, it's not all of the US.

BupcakesandCunting · 22/09/2011 20:55

How many questions did you just ask?

Why be a prick? You have a grasp on US politics above mine. Others have explained it without coming across as a total skullfuck.

OP posts:
troisgarcons · 22/09/2011 20:57

"cries in the corner"

OMG someone was rude to me

ShirelyKnottage · 22/09/2011 20:59

I am just agog at the weirdness here today. Seriously every thread I go on people are just fighting like it's a Saturday night down town.

Also, it's not "cries"

Pinot · 22/09/2011 21:00

My god, if arseholes had wings it'd be a fucking airport in here.

Pinot · 22/09/2011 21:01

Indeed, Shirls.

Always the same names too.

troisgarcons · 22/09/2011 21:02

" " is inverted commas sarcasm
no idea what

BupcakesandCunting · 22/09/2011 21:02

Grow up.

You've come on here to try and be the smarmy voice of intellect and have totally embarrassed yourself by being a dick.

My understanding of the USA is that there are enough people in it that think the state killing someone is a good thing.....

that's about all there is to know regarding the death of innocent people sanctioned by the state.

These states do not make a 'couple': Alabama
Arizona
Arkansas
California
Colorado
Connecticut
Delaware
Florida
Georgia
Idaho
Indiana
Kansas
Kentucky Louisiana
Maryland
Mississippi
Missouri
Montana
Nebraska
Nevada
New Hampshire
North Carolina
Ohio
Oklahoma
Oregon Pennsylvania
South Carolina
South Dakota
Tennessee
Texas
Utah
Virginia
Washington
Wyoming

Google is my friend.

death row is wrong in my eyes

winnybella - those cases you cite must surely involve mentally ill/ insane people . Killing again never the answer

Brices · 22/09/2011 21:06

The reason capital punishment is unacceptable is due to the fact that human beings are susceptible to error. Even if you believe in an eye for an eye if we make a "mistake" there's no fixing the error. This was very wonderfully put in jk rowling's story about buckbeak.
I feel the rule of law sliding in sanctity and meaning

StealthPolarBear · 22/09/2011 21:06

Shock at that article. Did anyone understand the weighing bananas rubbish? What was it trying to say? and then to scroll down and see Jessica and Holly... why?

BupcakesandCunting · 22/09/2011 21:08

I was Shock at the scales analogy (which was a shite one at that] and then the "howells of anguish". Typical Fail journalism.

OP posts:
StealthPolarBear · 22/09/2011 21:09

The whole thing seemed odd even for the DM

ShirelyKnottage · 22/09/2011 21:14

I went into a bit of a decline when he made the comarision between the execution and having a dog PTS. The fucking festering prick.

ByTheSea · 22/09/2011 21:14

YANBU. And I am an American who is glad to live here where there is no death penalty.

BupcakesandCunting · 22/09/2011 21:17

The scales thing didn't even make any sense. There was some gubbins about bananas, then a bit about what if you put Holly Wells and Jessica Chapman on the scales, then something about if the bananas were only worth pennies you'd want to know what was wrong with them...

All over the gaffe.

That would be you with the clever 12yo Id .

Grockle · 22/09/2011 21:17

Shocking and appalling.

Having lived in the US for several years, I feel very uncomfortable with it claiming to be a civilised society. I've seen awful things. I know stuff happens everywhere but this case is a disgrace.

SuePurblybilt · 22/09/2011 21:18

What is a clever 12yo Id, please and thanks? Is it a fake-ID to appear younger?

BupcakesandCunting · 22/09/2011 21:20

I have no idea what you're gabbling on about, troisgarcons.

Go and have a lie down and sniff some lavender or something. Get your blood pressure back to normal.

OP posts:
GreenEyesandNiceHam · 22/09/2011 21:21

Buppy have you really had that ID for twelve years?

My, doesn't time fly!

YANBU btw

winnybella · 22/09/2011 21:22

ReadRideABikeSwim- not sure, really. Do you really have to be mentally ill to rob and rape and kill people? Or can just be an entitled piece of shit with no consideration for others? I suppose you could argue that sociopathy exculpates perpetrators as it's the way their brains are wired. Dunno. I guess it depends on a person and circumstances. Seems pretty fucking evil to me, though.
