I looked at the Dad.

I looked at his little chubby toddler daughter in her pink Ramones t shirt.

I thought "God you are a twat"

AIBU?

OP posts:
CheerfulYank · 16/09/2011 07:06

DS had a Sublime t-shirt when he was 2, but he really liked Sublime.

YANBU, for reasons I will expound on at another time than 1 a.m. when I really must get to sleep. :)

redheadbedhead · 16/09/2011 07:08

i would probably have thought exactly the same as the OP on first glance at the offending try-hard dad, but now thinking about it, it is MUCH better than "I Love my Daddy" t-shirts or "Mummy's little princess" etc etc... sorry if I've quite obviously offended someone instantly Blush

meditrina · 16/09/2011 07:09

YABU: as said above, it's no different from footie strips, and much better than than things with the current favourite global "brand" - after all does a baby/toddler know about fashion designing before being put in baby (insert designer name here) clothing?

And judging on taste of clothing is usually wrong anyway.

BTW: my DCs could certainly recognise the music most played in our house in toddlerhood, and I think perhaps pictures of some. So I wouldn't conclude she didn't know who they are.

ivykaty44 · 16/09/2011 07:11

Are you really to young to have seen the Ramones live - those that said you where - you have made me feel really old this morning I saw them live and at 16 thought they where fab Grin

Meglet · 16/09/2011 07:23

Ooooo, yabu!

DS had a CBGB's babygro when he was small. I so want to get him a Run DMC / Ramones t-shirt these days.

He's not that cool though, we have Ramones in the car and he thinks 'Sheena' sounds like Finley the Fire Engine.

MaryAnnSingleton · 16/09/2011 07:28

you are certainly being unreasonable

MrsDmitriTippensKrushnic · 16/09/2011 07:31

This thread just made me laugh given that a couple of threads below it on Active Conversations, is a thread asking about England/Scotland Rugby T-shirts for a toddler. I can't see the difference tbh. We were bought little West Ham tops for the DCs because DH is a West Ham fan (yes he's a masochist), I know that if these band T-shirts had been around at the time my sister would have definitely been buying them - same thing really (I would have preferred the band ones tbh!)

YABU

What a nasty judgey little knob you are.

MissBeehiving · 16/09/2011 07:38

My DS (7) loves Nirvana - particularly "Smells like teen spirit" but he also loves Queen so I don't let him choose his own clothes Wink

aldiwhore · 16/09/2011 07:43

My 3 year old LOVES ACDC.... and has a t-shirt. Okay so Daddy was the one who introduced him to ACDC, but I don't see the issue with that. I was only pissed off because my youngest suddenly stopped wanted Abba on.

whackamole · 16/09/2011 07:46

YANBU.

Was the kid also wearing skinny jeans and a scarf tied like a bandana, probably with skulls on it? Oh and lets not forget the Converse pumps to be uber trendy!

I know it's silly, but it does irritate me. I had an ex who would never stop going on about music, he sounded like a pretentious dick then and I doubt he has changed. He would defo be that dad! (Might actually have been...!)

Besom · 16/09/2011 07:47

Yanbu, but 'twat' is possibly a bit strong - 'bit of a twat' OK.

Before I had my DD, I had been known to buy this type of thing for new parents.

But I wouldn't put my own dd in anything which, as you said before OP, was not related to her own little life, but to mine. Although I can't say I've really consciously thought about it until reading this thread.

HairyGrotter · 16/09/2011 07:50

YABU, The Ramones are excellent, the colour pink is a bit dubious though.

DD has a Bowie T-Shirt, Deftones (she's named after one of their songs tbf), Nirvana, Pearl Jam, The Smashing Pumpkins, a few other bands I like (as does she). She won't don a Slipknot tee as she deems them too shouty, she's 3, I respect her musical choices.

SnakeOnCrack · 16/09/2011 07:55

Yabu.

Poor bloke.

AnyoneButLulu · 16/09/2011 07:57

Aw, YABU, DS had a little Ramones T shirt when he was tiny (not a pink one you understand). They're a great design, and they were a great band, and H&M did cheap ones. And he loved seemed to have no objections to the Ramones song on Punk Rock Baby.

TheLadyEvenstar · 16/09/2011 08:43

DS2 has a KISS, Metallica, ACDC and The Who, t-shirt, he wears scarves (he has inherited my love of them) Skinny jeans (like mummy) and has a trilby hat (which he chose), and wears either converse style boots or a pair of distressed boots, and has long hair.

He loves his music and I love the fact he does. DS1 is not into music at all

ArmageddonOuttahere · 16/09/2011 08:50

YANBU. I judge most adults who wear Ramones T-shirts.

I particularly enjoyed asking my Twunt-At-Topman BIL to name three of their songs while wearing said garment and watching him go puce Grin

TheLadyEvenstar · 16/09/2011 08:52

I have bought this for DS2's birthday

and this

CMOTdibbler · 16/09/2011 08:53

DS's best friend had a Ramones t shirt when they were in toddler room at nursery. When I saw her in it, I knew I'd like her parents - and they are now great friends.

If I only put ds in things related to his life, he'd just wear mud. As it is, I have to choose for him, so he has tops that refer to rugby, polo, star wars and other things

BelleEnd · 16/09/2011 08:53

My 6yo has loved the Clash and Echo and the Bunnymen from about 18m. Would dance like a loon and sing Rock The Kazbah at playgroup instead of Baa Baa Black Sheep. Blush
So, even though mine don't have said t-shirts, YABU.

Succubi · 16/09/2011 08:56

Am the Mother "twat" as son has a black Ramones T-Shirt. Where do I get a Smiths T-Shirt?

Hullygully · 16/09/2011 08:57

I love the Ramones

Gabba gabba

I carried a coke can that Dee Dee Ramone gave me from house to hosue for years. Now sadly lost.

I would have put my kids in them.

YABVVVVVVVVVU and old-stick-in-the-muddist

So ner

Hullygully · 16/09/2011 08:58

But I don't like the rudeness of such as nobbynoob

So I'm on your side as far as that's concerned.

Pagwatch · 16/09/2011 09:00

Yabu
Why is having a child with Ramones written across it any worse than a t-shirt with GAP written across it or obe of the Bodenesque tops with a crocodile on it - unless possibly the child especially enjoys crocodiles.
Loads of people project images on children. The artsy crafty 'we are just so avoiding anything commercial by wearing something that looks from the 1950s' are more determinedly projecting than the others to be honest.
