I looked at the Dad.

I looked at his little chubby toddler daughter in her pink Ramones t shirt.

I thought "God you are a twat"

AIBU?

I used to love dressing dd in band t shirts when she was too young to resist.

ravenAK · 16/09/2011 00:00

It's definitely not dh who is OP's twat, though. Pink? On my dds?

The horror!

bibbitybobbityhat · 16/09/2011 00:00

No, the Dad was not cringing. No, he was loving it and thinking he was so clever.

I think mothers get enough judging Dandy. Time for the dads to get a little bit of judginess coming their way.

he was loving it and thinking he was so clever.

How can you possibly know what he was thinking?

Methinks the lady doth protest... blah blah blah...

I think you were loving him and the Ramones t-shirt merely set off a teenage rush of passion. More hormones than ramones, methinks... Then he spotted you staring hungrily at him and gave you a cheeky wink, now you're all flustered and slagging him off on AIBU. I know...

thinking he was clever indeed...

Busted!!

Off to bed to think pervy thoughts about slightly desperado Dad.

A lady at toddler group in the local children's centre had her barely walking DD dressed in a Ramones tshirt. I made some small talk along the lines of "cool tshirt" and went on to tell me in a v loud voice that her leggings were stella mccartney. I felt a bit embarrassed for her.

Tchootnika · 16/09/2011 00:09

slightly desperado ?!
Projecting again, bib. Off to bed with you.
Night all.

I was thinking YANBU but this bit has now made me feel all wistful and sympathetic towards him: "even though he is now middle aged and spends his Saturdays in the swing park, he used to be a really cool fan of the Ramones."

Aargh! I used to be a person

JjandtheBeanlovesUnicorns · 16/09/2011 00:09

Both of my dcs own an ac/dc, def leppard and rhcp tshirts.

Me and dp are really into our music and they have followed suit. They're 4 and almost 3 and plenty old enough to have there own opinions. Ds current fave songs are, hells bells by ac/dc, time is running out by papa roach and the wanted glad you came. Dd loves def leppards long way to go, and s club 7 and they both love the chilis fortune faded, give it away and snow. And were played classical music as babies me and dp have a very varied collection of music.

We are not twats. I personally have pity on the kids only exposed to wheels on the bus and so on.

MrsTerryPratchett · 16/09/2011 03:33

DD loves The Cramps (according to DH). She is 9 MONTHS old. I would love her in a Cramps onsie just so she wasn't wearing pink Disney f*@^&!g princesses.

1 for YABU.

LeBOF · 16/09/2011 03:56

I do see your point. But equally, I don't see how it's much different to dressing your baby or toddler in football colours, which happens all the time. I draw the line at political slogans or religious ones, or stupid sexist crap. But sport and music? I can't get excited about it.

nothingnatural · 16/09/2011 04:26

YABU. DD2 used to wear this really cool T Shirt with The Clash on at about 2 1/2. She looked great and more importantly I looked uber cool

YABU. People give those types of tshirts as gifts - they aren't necessarily a reflection on the parents.
Anyway, better than a Wiggles or Yo Gabba Gabba tshirt any day.

Are you anti-Ramones?

ExpensivePants · 16/09/2011 06:03

Oh well I'm a pretentious arse then. . DD is 3 and sometimes wears a Bal

ExpensivePants · 16/09/2011 06:07

Fucksake I've had it with this phone Angry

...sometimes wears a Blondie t shirt. She knows who they are,' single the music because I have it on in the car. And I choose her clothes thus far so ner.

She hasn't a Ramones t shirt yet. I haven't introduced her to them yet, but I will. As for relevance in their little life, if they know and like the music, which small children are capable of y'know, why is it different to a Peppa pig t shirt?

Oh and I'm not a bloke. Can I still be a pompous arse?

ExpensivePants · 16/09/2011 06:08

Pretentious arse...

LaBag · 16/09/2011 06:10

YANBU. Bad taste to do that to a little girl (whoever the band is). Why can't just be dressed as children anymore?

CompleteMug · 16/09/2011 06:12

Sometimes children are like bill-boards for what their parents like. I think it a bit naff to be honest, but wouldn't consider the parent a twat OP - that's bordering on a tad judgemental don't you think?

I feel the same about Disney, Bratz and most popular overpriced and shit quality merchandise though.

Don't listen to me though OP - I'm old and boring. I had to Google 'Ramones' and dress my little one's in pretty things Wink

ExpensivePants · 16/09/2011 06:19

Dressed as children? What's that? 100 years ago little boys dressed in knickerbockers. 70 years ago they dressed like their dads and little girls dressed like Shirley Temple. Now little girls dress like Barbie or Peppa pig if you're lucky, little hookers if you're not. There's no such thing as 'dressing like children'.

sunnydelight · 16/09/2011 06:52

Brighton by any chance? Grin

KenDoddsDadsDog · 16/09/2011 06:59

DD was given a baby Smiths tshirt. I loved it.
