I just had a moment of doubt.
I was updating my tea menu, and it occured to me that I don't really know anyone else who does this.

Are there others out there who keep a list of what teas or coffees you have on hand to offer your guests?

I saw the thread title and thought, Oooh, that reminds me of a lovely thread from yesteryear... And it's only one and the same! (although reading back my own comments, feels like reading the words of a total stranger. it just doesn't sound like my 'voice'.)

Nigel - it's oddly nice to hear that you now have a tea drawer, and that you are so pleased with it.

Sold/Goody - v v good to hear that you now work in a cafe! I must also say thanks, as I too have made your pulla recipe, and it's lovely.

Trills · 04/08/2013 20:53

Oh that's interestng - are the kinds of things that you said in the past the same things you would say now?

onetiredmummy · 04/08/2013 21:07

Not for tea, I don't like it unless its got a minimum of 2 sugars in.

With coffee I have the nespresso capsules and have a basic range of 7 different strengths plus flavoured ones, caramel etc. so I do ask guests how strong they like their coffee and match them to a capsule but that's it. Nothing written down Smile

onetiredmummy · 04/08/2013 21:10

And may I remind you what Horrible Histories said about tea.

'Leaves? Dead leaves in my lovely cup of water? Like a puddle in Oldham !' Smile

Howstricks · 04/08/2013 21:28

Soldatauction..this thread has made me feel happy and relaxed..it must be the equivalent of a written cuppa! I will forthwith resurrect my tea box, dust off my coffees, carry on baking (this bottom didn't come from homemade salad!) ask round some friends and present them with a menu Grin.

HazeltheMcWitch · 04/08/2013 21:42

Trills - it's more the way I phrased things. I didn't say anything that I'd not say now - after all, I was only chatting good-naturedly about tea and laminators, but the sentence structure seems really false and a bit twattish. Whereas I, of course, am neither (ahem).

I was clawsatELVES btw.

Trills · 04/08/2013 21:52

You want the taste of dried leaves boiled in water?

Er, yes, with milk.

Squeezed from a cow?

In a manner of speaking, I suppose.

Sleep404 · 04/08/2013 22:34

You don't need a laminator, get yourself a kids blackboard tablet and some chalk. I love this. I bet you don't use crummy tea bags. It'll be warmed teapots and proper cups and saucers in your house.

multitask · 04/08/2013 22:43

Does having a list of herbs taped inside a cupboard door count? 114 listed Blush

MrsMook · 04/08/2013 22:46

The only criteria we have when buying tea or coffee is the smallness of the box and jar, to minimise waste when we bin the leftovers as they get to best before date. Guests are frequently requested to bring their own milk if they want a hot drink as we rarely have cows milk in. Apparently Oat Milk isn't the greatest in tea, nor coffee. I feel like a philistine now.

I could however have a menu of non-alcoholic drinls.

SoldAtAuction · 05/08/2013 13:05

Hazel I am so glad your pulla turned out well, it really is the nicest thing! Grin

Baking, cooking and entertaining make my heart happy!

SoldAtAuction · 05/08/2013 13:07

Sadly I can not do the chalkboard thing, it would have to be huge! One day, when I have my own house, instead of renting, I will set up the most epic kitchen ever. I just need to be patient.

SoldAtAuction · 05/08/2013 13:08

and multi a herb list is genius too!

OhDearNigel · 05/08/2013 13:14

sold, you could paint one of your walls in blackboard paint and write all your teas on it. Like a cafe.
runs off to B&Q to buy gallons of said paint

SoldAtAuction · 05/08/2013 14:09

I only have one kitchen wall, which is cupboards, the rest is open to the dining room and living room. Plus its a rental, so the landlord wouldn't be too happy!

SoldAtAuction · 05/08/2013 14:10

But it is a great idea for when I finally own my own place Smile

Howstricks · 05/08/2013 15:56

Today i made your swedish almond tea rings..i didn't realise that all purpose flour was plain, so used self raising..but they turned out light as a feather and scrumptious. It would seem that 3 dozen only last a few minutes though!!!

AliceLongbottom · 05/08/2013 16:16

This thread has made me go across to the cupboard out of curiosity just to see how many teas and coffees we have in. Blush Grin
I counted 14 different types of tea:

  • Yorkshire Tea
  • Earl Grey
  • Darjeeling
  • spiced orange loose leaf tea
  • organic roobois
  • fennel and peppermint cleanse tea
  • cranberry and orange tea
  • chamomile and honey
  • decaffeinated Sainsbury's tea
  • orange, mango and cinnamon
  • peach paradise
  • cranberry and sanguinello orange
  • African roobois with strawberry and vanilla and last but not least Gunpowder Green tea from Taylors of Harrogate!! Grin

Coffee wise we have something called Rocket Fuel.

Do I win?! Grin I've never written a list though as I'm not organised enough and surprised how many different types we have - I now feel the urge to go and write out a list in pretty writing and laminate it! Grin

fancyabakeoff · 05/08/2013 16:26

I don't like tea.

GoodtoBetter · 05/08/2013 16:27

Those belgian toffee waffle things you get in cafes and warm over cup

OMG I love them, but never knew they were supposed to be warmed!! How, without it falling in? Spent a week in Holland last year eating them and never knew!!!

SmiteYouWithThunderbolts · 05/08/2013 16:29

Wow, OP. I need to come to your house!

bolshieoldcow · 05/08/2013 16:37

Goody/Sold you are simply amazing! I'm inspired to tidy my tea shelf now, and also send a huge KIITOS for the Pulla recipe!

PoodleFlavouredFreddos · 05/08/2013 18:06

I want a tea menu. I would totally do this...if I had any friends to invite round, but I think isolated and unsociable loner with tea list is a bit pointless

Goody, are you moving to the uk? maybe even..Wales? Because if so, we could be friends - I like peach tart, and chocolate chai tea :)

PoodleFlavouredFreddos · 05/08/2013 18:06

sigh. Strike fail.

CoTananat · 05/08/2013 18:25

No, but I did have a brew list. All regular visitors had their preference listed next to their name, like:

CoTanafriend: Earl Grey | Milk | 1 sugar | white cup

and I had it taped to the inside of my brew cupboard. I can't remember anything anyone says to me (makes phone calls a nightmare) so it was pretty essential to stop me trailing back and forth going, 'sugar..?'

Now I just make a pot and they can do their own.
