I just had a moment of doubt.
I was updating my tea menu, and it occured to me that I don't really know anyone else who does this.

Are there others out there who keep a list of what teas or coffees you have on hand to offer your guests?

Goodynuff I have tea, fairtrade Percol instant coffee (regular or decaff) and ground coffee. If my aunt is visiting I have ground decaff in as she absolutely loves real coffee but can't have caffeine for health reasons. I also have at least one variety of green tea (in bags). Oh and hot chocolate, my babysitter likes it as does my dd1.

I also have a selection of gluten free snacks (for dh but some visitors require them too)

Only on freakin' MN would someone exist who does this and admit it and think it's not unusual!

Mmmm - I adore peach pie and I like the sound of your evening beverages too, Goody. What are your opening hours? Grin

Have you tried Russian Caravan Mandy? Deeper, smokier and, to my taste, infinitely preferable to Earl Grey.

I've got maybe a dozen or so different teas and the same amount of different coffees in my cupboards, but no menu. I usually rummage and call out the available selection.

If I'm having guests in the morning, they inevitably get sour cream coffee cake and Illy or Taylor's Lava Java.

I realllllllllly want to live in Goodynuffs house :)

Goodynuff · 29/08/2011 20:30

I just spent 10 minutes typing out the recipe for my peach pie, and the thing disappeared

Can I come round for tea? I think DH will be coming too - he's making a menu as I type :o.

WilsonFrickett · 29/08/2011 20:33

Bless you Goody.

You are wonderful.

Quite, quite nuts, but wonderful.

sparkle12mar08 · 29/08/2011 20:34

I don't have a list but I do have 8 coffees in the cupboard including two decaffs, spanning three continents Blush

catgirl1976 · 29/08/2011 20:35

I have Earl Grey, Assam, English Breakfast and a few herbals

Does that help? I don't do a "menu" though.......

orienteerer · 29/08/2011 20:36

My tea "menu" consists of "normal" tea, fruit tea or peppermint.

loolooskiptotheloo · 29/08/2011 20:38

i love that you have a menu.

I don't think you're odd, OP.

I used to have a tea menu when I was a student and had time to sit around drinking tea with friends all the time. I had a drawer full of lots of different herbal/fruity/green teas and rather than rummage around and call out what was in there, I wrote it all down - though on a fairly scrappy piece of file paper, as far as I remember - no fancy fonts or pretty paper, I'm afraid.

That was twenty-something years ago, though, and although I do still have a cupboard stuffed full of different kinds of tea, I haven't been bothered to write them all down for ages. But now I'm wondering if I've got 10 minutes to spare this evening....

EvenLessNarkyPuffin · 29/08/2011 20:47

If you're going to do it, you need to really commit. No sheet of paper. You should scorn paper for your menu. Buy a whiteboard and make a nice border. Or paint a piece of wood with blackboard paint, frame it, and write your menu in coloured chalk. Leaving room for the cake and biscuit options.

On paper it's a bit odd. On a dedicated board with perhaps a decorative border of muffins, it's eccentric.

Goodynuff · 29/08/2011 21:01

[grin]@EvenLessNarkyPuffin my teachers always said "shows great potential, needs to follow through more often"

@clawsatELVES
How much is on your menu, 20 ish

and why did you update? I had just bought new teas, and we were out of others

What was your latest entry (on menu) licorice spice, and a black tea blend (assam, kenya, ceylon)

and what is your most popular item?! chocolate mint by guests, most frequent would be tetley orange pekoe

what is the most popular item on your menu! food wise? german chocolate slab cake, or pulla

And what would you not bother again with? mandarin orage green tea, weak flavour, and a bit of an odd after taste.

You are bonkers but nicely bonkers

cakeoholic · 29/08/2011 21:21

Goody I thought I was good at ding afternoon tea but I bow down to your superiority!! Where do you buy your teas??

clawsatELVES · 29/08/2011 21:47

Wow, OP. You are a tea supremo. A tea-premo. Most of your teas I have never tasted. But I'd like to come round please to educate my palate. And German slab cake will do mine for me, cake-wise.

Goodynuff · 29/08/2011 21:48

I get them at the grocery store, tea shops, or at the farmer's market.
I pick some things wild (blueberries, raspberries, winter green, rose hips, cranberries and such) some I grow (different mints)
Sometimes when family or friends are traveling, they bring me back teas.Smile

Don't have a menu of teas but a snazzy 'selection box' for my guests,

a bit similar to this..
