I just had a moment of doubt.
I was updating my tea menu, and it occured to me that I don't really know anyone else who does this.

Are there others out there who keep a list of what teas or coffees you have on hand to offer your guests?

I have a lot of teas, but you have me beat.
I just fling open the cupboard and ask "So what kinda tea ya want?"

iscream · 30/08/2011 02:45

Do you have a tea chest, they are good for presenting to your guest, or sitting on the table.

Goodynuff · 30/08/2011 17:53

I don't have a tea chest, which is another reason to use a menu! I don't have the space for a caddy right now, maybe after I move.

perhaps you could open a teahouse in your living room...i'll be your 1st customer.

i have more choice of coffee...cappuccino, Latté, moca, choca moca, nescafé......with tea all i have is PG pyrimaid bags

Goodynuff · 30/08/2011 21:11

I would love to do that Auntie.

I'm quite admiring. Life would not be complete without the civilising qualities of tea but while I like to have people round to share it I am not prepared to be generous with my limited supplies of Townshend's Irish Assam that was lovingly brought home from Portland (Oregon not Maine).

So round here you get Waitrose Assam (loose) or PG tips. If you want that fruity muck that bears absolutely no resemblance to tea then best supply your own. Cake consists of what is in the tin although I do keep a quiet supply of M & S Flapjack cookies. All in all, no real need for a menu and actually, I don't know anyone else quite that organised either. Even if they do offer fruity muck.

TheLaminator · 30/08/2011 21:41

love it! I want a tea menu :)

our geusts just get offered normal. earl grey, green or something fruity.
coffee is always freshly brewed served with hot milk, decaff available.

Im making a menu tommorrow & goddamit im gonna laminate it :)

clawsatELVES · 30/08/2011 22:50

The Laminator - did you name-change for this thread? Or did you just find your - very well-organised, nicely hydrated - spiritual home ? Grin

brighthair · 30/08/2011 23:08

I just open the cupboard and shout out what is in there Blush
I do have some original twinings earl grey, and a big soft spot for teapigs, especially their spiced winter tea

Foxy800 · 31/08/2011 06:56

We dont have one for the adults but I do do one for dd as she is a fussy eater. Dp is at home with her three days a week so it means I know she is getting a good variety of foods not just what he knows she will eat.

CamperFan · 31/08/2011 08:09

OP, I would just love to come to your house. I have more tea than anyone I know, but I think if I had a tea menu people would think I was even weirder than they probably already do. But it sounds like you should have a menu. Your baking sounds amazing, sadly I am lacking in that department. And please tell me more about chocolate chai!

I want to be you when I grow up. Envy

Can I visit? Will you be my friend? Please pretty please

Claw3 · 31/08/2011 08:52

We have Nescafe and PG and if i know guests are coming, i will pop Asda and buy some iced fingers!

Your menu of teas and homemade cakes, sounds lovely, very Darling Buds of May.

DawnTiggaWeirdyBeardy · 31/08/2011 10:40

Goodynuff · 31/08/2011 16:54

Wow Grin
So, no one else does this, I'm a freak, but a nice freak Grin

I can get behind that!

All of you are cordially invited for tea and treats Smile
I wish I didn't live so far away from so many of you...

Don't worry about it. All the Germans have about 500 different teas. Think of yourself as a cultural pioneer!

TheLaminator · 01/09/2011 14:58

found my home Claws!!

my new tea menu is neatly pinned to my tea cupboard :)
my friend has just popped round and asked for a very weak black decaff (instant) coffee :(

OhdearNigel · 01/09/2011 15:02

OhdearNigel · 01/09/2011 15:09

"or pulla "

mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm I love pulla. You're not Finnish are you ?

OhdearNigel · 01/09/2011 15:18

How many of us are now going to type and laminate our own decorated Beverage Menu now ?

Am going to have to start asking more people round for Morning Coffee now - just to use the laminated menu :D

Goodynuff · 01/09/2011 15:19

OhdearNigel, I am Finnish on my Dad's side Grin
We have a 4th generation Pulla recipe passed down, seriously good stuff!

TheLaminator, I am so happy you have a menu too!
Now I'm not the only one...

OP posts:
OhdearNigel · 01/09/2011 15:22

I thought as much ! You wouldn't like to share your pulla recipe would you ? It's bizarre, I was looking for a recipe this morning for them thinking I might make some over the weekend. How coincidental.

PS do you use crushed or ground cardamom ?

CurrySpice · 01/09/2011 15:24

Goody you sound delightfully bonkers and I want to come to your tea shop

Actually I just wish I was as anal organised and domesticated as you!

OhdearNigel · 01/09/2011 15:25

Oh and do you live in Finland ? It's my favourite place in the world, we went to Helsinki for our honeymoon and I've friends in Jyvaskyla.

I had never been in a Subway here and discovered it on my first trip to finland. I thought it was a finnish brand and when I saw one in London I got really excited and said to my husband "LOOK ! They have a finnish restaurant here !!" He looked at me as if I was mad and said "Erm, it's an american restaurant"
