I just had a moment of doubt.
I was updating my tea menu, and it occured to me that I don't really know anyone else who does this.

Are there others out there who keep a list of what teas or coffees you have on hand to offer your guests?

Wishing, I don't know about dream host, but I try my best Grin I love going to visit my friends, and most of them are great hosts. I have to say, a few aren't so big on the hospitality, but they more than make up for it in other areas. I do have one friend who leaves my place with a handful of recipies nearly every time, but I don't think any are trying to 'try to aspire to my ideals' Grin

Swedish Almond Tea Rings
preheat oven to 325 F
cream 1/2 cup butter with 1/3 cup granulated sugar, when creamed, add 1 egg yolk and 1 tsp almond extract
stir in 1 cup all purpose flour
chill dough for 1 hour
roll into small balls, dip in 1 slightly beaten egg white, roll in 1 cup ground almonds
place 1 inch apart on cookie sheet (greased or parchment paper) and press your thumb down into the top to make a depression.
Bake for 5 minutes, pull out, deepen the depressions (at this point I use a thimble so I don't burn myself) put back to bake for another 8 minutes
while a bit warm still, fill centers with jam, finish cooling
makes 3-4 dozen

I have lots of different teas (but don't actually have a list of them), no coffee though.

Should probably have coffee in for guests, as there's been the occasional awkward moment when DP kindly offered someone a 'tea or coffee' oblivious to the fact that we do not and have never had coffee in the house. Don't tend to have any sugar either. We are terrible hosts.

Also rarely have biscuits, as if we did I'd have eaten them all Blush.

Goodynuff, PM me with your address and I will send you a little sample, if you like.

I'm intrigued goody, can't wait to try it link

GotArt · 03/09/2011 22:09

I don't have a menu, lol, but I have a list of ones that I like to keep on hand, two kinds of coffee, bodem and espresso, 5 teas, regular, loose green, peppermint, fennel, chai and right now a mama's milk tea. I also have baking of all sorts in the freezer and like to keep biscuits in the cupboard. Cheese, olives, nuts and some kind of cured meat is a staple is a staple in this house.

GotArt · 03/09/2011 22:10

If guests stay past coffee, confectionaries and anti-pasti, everyone gets carted to the grocery store to get stuff for dinner.

Goodynuff · 03/09/2011 22:46

great link Cake Smile so many good looking teas!

GotArt, I know what you mean about everyone going to the store, some of our best dinner parties started out that way!

I enjoyed this thread so much that I decided to come and give an update. Since moving house recently I now have a "tea drawer" complete with my tea menu.

It is my pride and joy. Although I never have made the pulla...

RussianBlu · 02/08/2013 00:07

I wonder if Goodynuff updated and extended her hot beverages menu. Bizarre but tempting at the same time.

SoldAtAuction · 02/08/2013 05:06

Grin omg! its me Grin. I mean, I was GoodyNuff, before me name change!
I have been working on updating my menu because I have moved, and I was given about twenty types of tea as welcome gifts :-).
And I still bake pulls :-)

SoldAtAuction · 02/08/2013 05:08

SoldAtAuction · 02/08/2013 05:44

OhDearNigel, I am excited for your tea drawer! What is in it so far?

Laquila · 02/08/2013 14:14

This thread is bonkers but charming :)

I have normal Clipper teabags, loose leaf Earl Grey, loose leaf green and jasmine, and a variety of assorted herbal/fruit teabags, some of which I'm ashamed to say have been around for years....and I have one tiny jar of instant Morrisons coffee! Ooh I also have lemon verbena leaves in a kiner jar that make a nice refreshing change,

Madmum24 · 02/08/2013 14:42

I don't have a written menu, I place all of the options (in boxes) and bring them in to the guests on a tray to let them choose. I have about 10 teas at least and it would take ages to rattle through them verbally. My brother had a good laugh though the last time I did this.

ThisReallyIsNotSPNopeNotAtAll · 02/08/2013 14:45

I feel so bad as people who visit me are lucky if I have milk in never mind 20 different drink choices

Rufus43 · 02/08/2013 14:47

I don't have a written menu but now wish I did! I have two types of tea, two types of hot chocolate and 8 or so types of coffee

Then loads of my friends like soft drinks so I run through the juices, squashes and cordial and then the buggers say they want water

crochetkate · 02/08/2013 14:56

Goody, you need to get to London and go to the tea counter in Harrods

It is my favourite place in London, so many delicious teas to look at!

Rollermum · 02/08/2013 14:57

Wow I just feel like an epic slob now. I've just moved flat so maybe I can get better at entertaining. But I doubt it because 35 months pregnant...

I dream of being as organised as Goodynuff. Also wow Helenagrace the spice organisation sounds like a great system! I'm always buying herbs and spices I already have.

iamadoozermum · 02/08/2013 14:57

I want a tea and coffee menu now. We've got heaps of different ones and I never remember what we've got.

This takes me back to my Uni days. The on-campus museum had a coffee shop which did a wide range of teas. Dad worked down the road and if he was working on a Sunday, he'd pop along and we worked our way through the tea menu. That's where I tried Assam and lapsang souchong for the first time. Mmmmm and (in honour of another thread) ahhhhh Grin.
