I just had a moment of doubt.
I was updating my tea menu, and it occured to me that I don't really know anyone else who does this.

Are there others out there who keep a list of what teas or coffees you have on hand to offer your guests?

CurrySpice , the funny thing is, I am really not anal, just lazy Grin
This is the easiest way to keep track of what I have, less traipsing back and forth, less digging in the cupboards, less remembering...

OhdearNigel, I use a mortar and pestle for my cardamom Smile
I will get the recipe up in a few

Pulla
Dissolve 1 teaspoon of sugar in ½ cup of 100F water, stir, over this sprinkle 2 ¼ teaspoons of dry active yeast, set aside for 10 minutes
Scald ¾ cups of milk, pour into a deep bowl, add ½ cup granulated sugar, 1 teaspoon salt, 1/3 cup of butter, 1 ½ teaspoons of cardamom
Stir until butter melts, allow to cool
Stir in 2 beaten eggs
Add yeast mix to milk mix, stir
Add 2 cups all purpose flour, mix well, add another 3 ½ cups flour
Knead for ten minutes
Shape into a ball, butter it, cover it with a damp tea towel, and let rise for 2 hours (until doubled)
Knock down, divide into three balls. Divide each ball into three, and roll to about 15 inches length, then braid.
Put braided loaf on a baking sheet (grease or use parchment paper) cover again, x 3
Let rise for 75 minutes
Bake at 350 for 30-35 minutes
As soon as it comes out of the oven, while hot, brush with 2 tablespoons sugar dissolved in 1 tablespoon hot coffee, sprinkle with granulated sugar

Do you have a wine list? Grin

Brilliant.

I think it's a lovely idea and can see why you do it GN.

The only menu I have is when I plan meals I type (as it's easier when ordering online) and print out the meals for the week and pin it up in the kitchen. Find it easier as I then don't have to think about (and talk myself out of) what to cook. Also when DH says "What's for tea?" when I'm in the middle of something else I just say "Dunno - something on The List".

RedOnion · 01/09/2011 15:46

Please can I come over and play at yours OP??

SeniorWrangler · 01/09/2011 15:52

I have special green tea imported from Taiwan via China and it is to die for. You're all welcome. Brew

OhdearNigel · 01/09/2011 16:00

I will let you know how they go :)
Do you make nanaimo bars OP ?

Goodynuff · 01/09/2011 16:01

I don't have a wine list, as sadly there is usually only a few bottles in at a time!
DH is in the Navy, so he is away most of the time, which means it is usually just me, and a few friends around to have drinks. By the end of the night, there is not a lot left overGrin

I do have supper menus, that I keep in the household ledger. They have the ingredient lists with them, so I can see what I can make with what is in the house, or conversely, what I need to pick up when I'm shopping.

Seriously, I'd love to have all of you overSmile

SeniorWrangler, what type of green tea? I have 4 or 5, but nothing fancy

OhdearNigel, please do! I make nanaimo bars (with dark chocolate, mint chocolate, or apricot)

CamperFan · 01/09/2011 20:11

Blueberry tea sounds lovely and refreshing. But you haven't told me more about chocolate Chai yet!!!

TheLaminator · 01/09/2011 20:25

mmmmm, chocolate chai sounds amazing

Goodynuff · 01/09/2011 22:44

CamperFan

Smile Chocolate chai is a nice chai tea with cocoa, cocoa shells and carob pod. The one I have is by President's Choice.

Sounds amazing, but I am pretty sure it's not sold in the UK, perhaps I'll have quick look online!

SeniorWrangler · 02/09/2011 11:13

It's Taiwanese in little balls that expand when hot water is poured over them to reveal the beauty of the leaf. I was given it recently when I was in Beijing by a colleague. I also have normal green tea from China and also the bitter English kind, which I don't like very much tbh.

WishingIWasLucky · 02/09/2011 11:30

You sound like such a dream host! please share your recipe for almond rings. Tried this many times, but the texture not quite right. People must be queuing up outside your house to visit! I expect you'll be very missed once you move. One question though: when you return the favour and visit your friends- how does their hospitality measure up to yours? And do you consider them inferior or lax if they don't measure up to your standards? Or do they try to aspire to your ideals? :-)

OhdearNigel · 02/09/2011 11:54

Goodynuff, this is your fault. I have just bought loose leaf Kenyan and some chinese Pu'er tea because they were reduced.
Damn you !

heleninahandcart · 02/09/2011 13:10

I shall prepare and print a menu for myself so I can pretend I'm going to a posh coffee shop. Menu will have tea and coffee even though I don't drink tea so that I can fill it up a bit offer my posh friends a selection. Said coffee shop will have inside and outside tables table.

Goodynuff · 02/09/2011 15:56

Senior, that really sounds neat! Someday, I will add those to my collection Smile
