I just had a moment of doubt.
I was updating my tea menu, and it occured to me that I don't really know anyone else who does this.

Are there others out there who keep a list of what teas or coffees you have on hand to offer your guests?

Oh and no ... but if it makes you feel less alone I have a laminated list of how I pack my campervan in the glove box.

Andrewofgg · 29/08/2011 19:48

It's a very nice parallel universe!

Goodynuff · 29/08/2011 19:49

It is just on a piece of lined 3 hole paperBlush
I am also very frugal.

Most popular tea right now is the chocolate chia, it goes well with my peach pie, or with almond biscotti.

dh and a lot of our friends drink a range of fruit teas and my brother drinks decaf tea and coffee so we tend to have quite a few options.

I used to keep them in a basket to bring out for people to select from but after several odd looks (and a kitchen cupboard re-shuffle I stopped.

messagetoyourudy · 29/08/2011 19:50

You must have friends round for tea alot then?

My friends tend to be the wine drinking type and then it's just a case of red or white?

I used to have a friend who drank alot of whittards type tea - I'm a pleb and only like 'normal' tea, even earl grey and the like is too much for me.

LDNmummy · 29/08/2011 19:51

OP you are AMAZING!

I am a tea lover (though not one of those 5 cups a day types like my DM) and I would be thrilled to have a host with a tea menu.

You have actually inspired me to do the same, I think I will have a small selection of 5 types.

GreenEyesandNiceHam · 29/08/2011 19:53

You're not alone, I also have a tea menu which I hand out to my guests! Smile

Not really, I'm fucking with you of course. I wish I did though, it sounds acely organised and civilised Smile

Goodynuff · 29/08/2011 19:54

I do get quite a few people around, so things get used up quickly. Both my DC like tea, as do a lot of there friends.

Now if you had some original Twinings Earl Grey I'd definitely be at your door!

I am not looking forward to trying the new one Sad

redexpat · 29/08/2011 20:02

Well I have a list of the different kind of nuts we have in the house taped to the inside of the cupboard, but that's more to prevent buying multiples because I'm a short arse and can't see what we've got on the top shelf. You sound wonderfully British I must say!

umf · 29/08/2011 20:04

I think you should run a cafe. Could we get together a consortium and buy one for you? I imagine we'd get good returns on the investment.

AKissIsNotAContract · 29/08/2011 20:04

What's on the biscuit menu?

mankymink · 29/08/2011 20:04

Bless you, Goody :)

Goodynuff · 29/08/2011 20:04

I am Canadian Smile
My Nan and Grandad do come from England though.

I have an A to Z book in my spice cupboard that lists each herb and spice and the date it was opened so I can see at a glance if I have the spice or herb needed for a recipe and whether it is likely to have been opened for 6 months and therefore need replacing.

Not enough choice of tea and coffee in my house for a menu. I just have instant coffee, filter coffee, normal tea, green tea and earl grey.

VeraCanSignChocolateAndWine · 29/08/2011 20:05

Should I mention now that almond biscotti are strickly for baking and not for offering with tea.
What an unbearable thought of having a guest dunk a biscuit in my chins cups!
A nice thinly sliced Victoria or Dundee is what you should be offering.

BarbaraWoodlouse · 29/08/2011 20:07

Goodynuff I think I love you though you are clearly barking [Grin]

Promise me you will buy yourself a laminator soon.

youarekidding · 29/08/2011 20:08

I have an excellent memory and can remember mine.

Theres ASDA tea or ASDA coffee.

I DO have milk and sugar though most of the time! Grin

goody you sound nuts in the nicest way and I really want to visit your tea shop.

Goodynuff · 29/08/2011 20:09

oh, I love baking!

Right now I have peanut butter cookies, almond tea rings (the thumb print with jam kind), and lemon loaf.

I had thought about opening a shop, but I am about to move a few thousand km away Grin
After I get settled I will look at it again.
It isn't the best time to be starting a new business, especially one based on non-essentials. Sad

How lovely, i.d love to hear your recipe for a peach tart.

onepieceofcremeegg · 29/08/2011 20:11

I want a tea/coffee menu now I have read about yours.

I have once or twice had a "tea" menu for the children's tea (i.e. dinner). It was to try and "con" dd1 who was being picky with fruit or veg. If I just said "do you want carrots or green beans?" she would be Hmm Tickboxes on a menu really worked for a short while. Grin

goody I think I would get on with you in rl. Do you live in the Midlands?

PicaK · 29/08/2011 20:11

Deeply, deeply impressed with the tea menu. No wonder u have loads of visitors.

Considering copying your idea - but already slavishly copied Catherine Zeta Jones' "i keep all our sunglasses in a bowl by the front door" idea so I really ought to have more originality in my life.
