we don't have money worries, our house is worth a fair bit more[40k at least] more than we owe on it, i'm happy being a sahm, we have a happy marraige on the whole, healthy as far as we know, nice car, been one one holiday abroad this year and 5 weekends away in uk.
we have a largeish 3 bedroom house which more than meets our needs
we get to have days out and meals out fairly often

i am surrounded by wealthy people though, with huge houses and very good lifestyles [ie gardeners, cleaners, never do their own d.i.y etc]

i'm fed up of feeling poor all time.

I'm so poor I live in a hole in the road.
I'm jealous of my neighbours, they have a cardboard box, and one even lives in a sewer.

missmogwi · 25/08/2011 22:29

I'm crying into to my smartprice tissues for you.

QuintessentialShadow · 25/08/2011 22:29

Cote, we spent our holiday in villefranche sur mer, lovely. Went to nice and cannes, and Eze, but did not manage to go to monaco.

Let me guess... you're pretending to be you SIL or someone and you want everyone to flame the "OP" because your friend/relation/acquaintance's atitude pisses you off?

slow clap

Look, I know TONS of people like this. Get over it.

Welcome to Mumsnet, dovebird.

Nice first (and only) posts.

Conmpared to me - we have money worries, we owe thousands, our house is rented, i'm working 50 hours per week minimum, i haven't had a relaxing weekend since the start of July. We have a happy marraige on the whole, healthy as far as we know, 2 cars but the car insurance is going up to £177 a month which we cannot afford at all, we have had a weekend away.
we have a small 3 bedroom house which meets our needs but i'd like a spare room as an office/ studio.
we get to have days out to the park with a picnic which we feel lucky to do and meals out fairly very rarely.

i am surrounded by wealthy people though, with huge houses and very good lifestyles [ie gardeners, cleaners, never do their own d.i.y etc]

i'm fed up of feeling poor all time.

Life is what you make it, if you want more work for it!

creamola · 25/08/2011 22:32

also people who hijack threads so the attention gets set on them irriates me

toniguy · 25/08/2011 22:33

You do sound envious rather than poor. But if you really feel you want more money, get off your arse and earn it. Personally I would want more family income than 45 k, which is why we both work. However, I would never claim to be poor if we did live on 45 k. You need to decide what you want out of life. If you want more money, earn it. Or are you comparing yourself with stay at home wives of wealthy men, where the wives have cleaners, gardeners and are treated to 6 holidays a year? Don't. They probably have shit marriages and will get traded in for a younger model sometime

sunshineandbooks · 25/08/2011 22:34

On a tangent I read somewhere a while back that how you compared to your peergroup was a direct measure of how successful and happy you felt with your life. So if you were on £16k but your peers were on £14 you'd be happier than someone earning £80k whose peers were earning £100k.

lachesis · 25/08/2011 22:44

Gah, me, too. Let's set up our own prossie business. We can be hoo-roes instead of heroes and save ourselves from not being able to keep up with the Joneses.

TheCrackFox · 25/08/2011 22:47

I think my prossie days are behind me so I will have to take in washing.

OP - I think you need to count your blessings in life, you have a lot to be thankful for. One of my friends used to work in a bank and she told me the people with impressive lifestyles are invariably up to their eye balls in debt.

creamola · 25/08/2011 22:52

oh sorry i've posted in the wrong thread

I'll get me coat

Empusa · 25/08/2011 22:53

I hope this isn't serious. Our income is 1/4 of yours. We live in an affluent area (we bought our flat when I was earning), with £3m houses up the road. But I am happy enough with what we have (1 bed flat). At some point we will have to move to accommodate DD in her own bedroom though. Hopefully when I've finished my course I can get some work and we can aim for a 2 bed place. Hopefully.

If you're feeling poor, perhaps go and do some charity work, abroad, with people who live in shanty towns?
