to think smokers should be made to smoke away from people?

I've always been quite anti smoking had a gran who dies of lung cancer, but since I was pregnant with DD and now that I'm out and about with her it really angers me when people are smoking in public areas, if it were up to me I'd ban smoking in all public places ie high streets, door ways to, restaurants, childrens play areas etc and don't even get me started on the bit outside the hospital and make people smoke in smoking rooms or back streets. I got abuse from a woman the other day who came over to speak to DD and puffed her smoke all over her when I asked her not to.

smartyparts

Maybe the smokers should have been allowed indoors in Paris only on sunny days so you could be the only one's sitting outside enjoying the sun.

lassylass

So we dispense with fairness then.?

Our local would close without the smokers who all have to go outside in all weathers and don't carp on about it all the time

Most of YOU may not like it..most of us don't mind.

tootiredtomakeupagoodname · 22/08/2011 17:01

lassylass cars have a use smokers don't!

How about Albert Einstein, JRR Tolkein, Winston Churchill, Albert Camus, George Orwell, Oscar Wilde, Vincent van Gogh, Pablo Picasso to name a few?

I was quite ill after inhaling someone's perfume in the swimming pool yesterday, I wonder if they could make a room especially for those wearing rancid perfume/aftershave Hmm

alphabettyspagghetti · 22/08/2011 17:02

I'm off for a fag..anyone joining me?

SardineQueen · 22/08/2011 17:03

"Cars have a use. Smokers dont."

Smokers include people from all walks of life. Emergency services, nurses, surgeons, you name it, there are smokers.

Saying that smokers are of less use than cars is a very dehumanising thing to say. Smokers are people, not things.

freybean · 22/08/2011 17:04

i'll join you Smile

reelingintheyears · 22/08/2011 17:05

Lights up with alphabetty.

AfternoonDelight · 22/08/2011 17:06

I smoke! There, I said it.

I don't smoke inside my house because I choose not to. I don't smoke inside my car because I don't like smoking around my children. I don't smoke inside public buildings because I'm not allowed to by law.

I do however smoke in designated areas and I make no apologies for doing so. I hate these people that complain about people smoking outside - especially when it's the same people that complained about smokey pubs and clubs.

Illegitimate · 22/08/2011 17:06

I wish more smokers would blow smoke in my face. I quit 2 years ago because i cant afford to smoke, i miss my cigarettes still

scuzy · 22/08/2011 17:07

why do we smokers have to move - we already have - outside! why dont YOU move?!?!

and you are more likely to inhale more smoke from traffic than being outside with the odd smoker.

sigh

i need a fag!

AbbyAbsinthe · 22/08/2011 17:07

I've just been out for one in the assigned smoking area outside work. I was waiting for a non-smoker to come and stand over there and start coughing and spluttering..... Grin

tethersend · 22/08/2011 17:09

"There is a Wetherspoons near us where you frequently have to navigate past four or five smokers blocking the only doorway, despite the notice 'You are not allowed to smoke in this doorway'. The smoke blows directly into the pub."

That sounds like a classy Wetherspoons. At my local one, you frequently have to navigate past prone unconscious drunks, with or without a fag in their mouth.

Twos up, reeling.

MrsPresley · 22/08/2011 17:09

I'm off for a fag..anyone joining me?

I'll join you as long as there's no "anti social" drunks around, oh silly me, there wont be, cos we're not allowed in the fucking pub!!

Oh well I'll just have to wait till closing time to see the fights, people throwing up etc and listen to the drunk across the road batter his/her partner.

And yes I realise not all drinkers are like this but not all smokers are anti social either!

alphabettyspagghetti · 22/08/2011 17:09

I smoke. I even "gasp" (pun intended) smoke in the house when the kids are in bed but strangely enough I never smoke when I'm out. Only in one room of the house by the open back door, or in the garden.

michelleseashell · 22/08/2011 17:10

I don't know about you guys but I just can't enjoy a cigarette without blasting a lung full of it into a non smoker's face.

That delightful POOOOOOOOOOOOF noise followed by their little nose wrinkling up in horror. Can't beat it.

Don't care if they do get Smoke Air Disease. I'm a selfish bastard!!

fairlytiredallthetime · 22/08/2011 17:11

I would love to hear the full story on this OP. You got abuse from a woman "who came over to speak to DD and puffed her smoke all over her when I asked her not to". What did she say to your DD, what did you say to her? Get a grip, you probably should worry more about pollution walking along the road than you got from the woman who "puffed her smoke all over her". I'm sooooo sick of feeling like a pariah for having a cigarette.

alphabettyspagghetti · 22/08/2011 17:13

What makes me laugh is when they complain about smokers, but stand outside with you while YOU are having a fag and breathing in the smoke.

Makes me just want to shout "Buy your own fucking fags" and stop lecturing.

Bartimaeus · 22/08/2011 17:17

I'm not a big fan of smoking (especially the smell) but since it's been banned in pubs etc. I find it hardly affects me and I Shock live in Paris!

I don't mind people smoking outside, I've even been at a party in a flat with some smokers when I was pregnant - they kindly made sure no smoke was blowing directly in my direction, but they were still only a couple of metres away from me. I decided one evening wasn't going to harm my baby so relaxed and enjoyed myself.

Another evening we were sitting outside eating and the bloke next to us asked if we minded if he smoked - the wind was in the right direction so we said no problem. He was polite, we were polite, everyone was happy.

What I really hate is not smokers but inconsiderate smokers - the ones who wave their arms around whilst walking down the street and burn holes in your clothing Angry. I also hate all the fag ends lying around.

However, I dislike all inconsiderate people, whether they're smokers or not.

LadyBeagleEyes · 22/08/2011 17:22

Grin at michelle
Or the ones that put their hands to their mouths and give a false cough and look at you pointedly.
Or when they make that annoying flappy hand movement.

MissVerinder · 22/08/2011 17:22

Yawn...

toniguy · 22/08/2011 17:34

Loving the post about Einstein, tolkein, Wilde et al.

Cos of course, they wouldn't have had any creativity or intelligence without sparking up would they..... Hmm. Plus of course that minor detail that in their day, the fact that smoking is a massive contributory fact to Certain cancers was unknown. And in' fact smoking was back then erroneously marketed as 'good for your health'

Still, cant beat a smokers' logic eh? Lol

perfumedlife · 22/08/2011 17:37

If they hadn't seen fit to ban smoking rooms and allowed smoking bars, all those people wouldn't be clogging up the door ways.

I find cheap perfume and bad breath deeply offensive and harmful to my delicate sensibilities. It won't kill me though, just like a gust of smoke won't kill you.

toniguy do you believe then as lassy does that cars have a use, while smokers don't? That people who smoke are less important than vehicles?

You don't understand that smokers come from all walks of life and some of them do a lot for others?

Bartimaeus · 22/08/2011 17:46

Corvax your poor computer screen Wink

Poweredbypepsi · 22/08/2011 17:47

smokers do have do go outside now which is great, outside its normally possible to move away or change side to be out of the wind so i have relaxed abotu smokers alot since its gone outside. Only thing i still hate is smokers who flick ash around them for some reaon mainly because i once had a burned eyeball from ash flicked over someones shoulder, burned eyeballs hurt. I realise this may be a rather specific hate.
