I've always been quite anti smoking had a gran who dies of lung cancer, but since I was pregnant with DD and now that I'm out and about with her it really angers me when people are smoking in public areas, if it were up to me I'd ban smoking in all public places ie high streets, door ways to, restaurants, childrens play areas etc and don't even get me started on the bit outside the hospital and make people smoke in smoking rooms or back streets. I got abuse from a woman the other day who came over to speak to DD and puffed her smoke all over her when I asked her not to.

Yes especially the ones outside my Asda, ignorant B's.

alphabettyspagghetti · 23/08/2011 20:45

Asmod, until you have been in the car with your parents listening to Cheech and Chong on a long drive, arguing about which bit to play..you havent lived.

I still love the two gay guys sketch arguing about going to the disco.

So basically Virgo, it's school playground politics all over again.

Except we are all in the open and not hanging around behind the bikesheds.

Gonna sing her ma song, gonna show her ma ding dong"

BleurghUna · 23/08/2011 21:29

Grin alphabetti
Old lady - no particular density in mind, I just mean it needs banning outdoors as well as in buildings, but I know it won't happen, it would be impossible to police.

OldLadyKnowsNothing · 23/08/2011 21:33

So you just want it banned, full-stop? Tobacco to become illegal? Because if we're not allowed to smoke indoors, and we're not allowed to smoke out of doors even when the next person may be miles away [country dweller here] that's what you're saying.

And you may well have a point, on health grounds.

But, as you say, it won't happen.

alphabettyspagghetti · 23/08/2011 21:39

I cant think of anything to say to that. Shock

Crosshair · 23/08/2011 21:43
Brew
OldLadyKnowsNothing · 23/08/2011 21:44

Ach, I don't really think that's what she means, just that we should stub it out when there are others around.

alphabettyspagghetti · 23/08/2011 21:51

in thier eye?

OldLadyKnowsNothing · 23/08/2011 22:00

Oooh, smokers are sooooo antisocial! Shock Grin

I got into some ridiculous states when I was younger but never so bad that Gong sounded good.
Actually- now that I think of it, I still have a copy of "Zeit" by Tangerine Dream, so I'm no position to say anything about Gong....

OldLadyKnowsNothing · 23/08/2011 22:59

I had a Daevid Allen solo album. Blush

It's probably in pretty pristine condition, reckon it's worth anything on eBay? Grin

pictish · 23/08/2011 23:03

Still loving this thread. i have been wondering where all the normal people are on Mumsnet....and here you all are! Grin

VirgoGrr · 24/08/2011 00:02

Grin Thread successfully hijacked ladies.

pictish I'm sure there are thousands of us that are normal, well rounded individuals who dont want to start a ruck over the nutritional content of a fucking capri-sun (Did anyone else see that thread earlier, and did anyone believe that was a real person, more to the point?) or someone daring to light a fag within 15 miles of a nonsmoker.

I was in the kitchen yesterday, listening to Steve Lamacq play Mega City Four on the radio and I thought "Steve, I'm not sure either of us has changed much in the last 20 years". I'm glad I havent changed much, but it leads me to wonder whether these people have always been such uptight bitches or does it come upon some people, like a phase?

Scholes34 · 24/08/2011 09:04

David Tennant smoking on stage in Much Ado last night . . . now he can blow smoke into my personal space any time.

pictish · 24/08/2011 09:34

Ah scholes one rule for us and one rule for David bloody Tennant eh? Grin

And virgo - yes I did see that thread about the capri-sun. There have been other threads just as barmy in the past....things that have made me Shock at the poster's meddling and pettiness, and I too wonder if these people were born with a pole up their jacksies. Sooooo many people out there so very concerned with the doings of others. God knows why.
Personally, I'm sick to the back teeth of anti smoking whiners on here. Why do they even care - it's not their problem, it's mine.
No-one can tell me that walking past a smoker is worthy of making a point about. No-one.

Scholes34 · 24/08/2011 10:01

pictish - abso-bloody-lutely. He was fantastic in the play. Fully lived up to expectations.

usualsuspect · 24/08/2011 10:05

This thread gives me hope that their are some normal people on MN Grin

usualsuspect · 24/08/2011 10:06

there* ffs

LyingWitchInTheWardrobe2726 · 24/08/2011 10:10

Perhaps ask MN Towers to give smokers their very own section of the board - non-smokers/ex-smokers not permitted. That way, you can all be normal and cool in great company.... and the rest of the unworthies can stay behind, lamenting at the loss of witty conversation... Grin

You could get, I dunno, badges made and secret gang membership cards...

usualsuspect · 24/08/2011 10:18

We used to have a smokers corner in OTBT ,so we didn't pollute the rest of MN Grin
