to think smokers should be made to smoke away from people?

I've always been quite anti smoking had a gran who dies of lung cancer, but since I was pregnant with DD and now that I'm out and about with her it really angers me when people are smoking in public areas, if it were up to me I'd ban smoking in all public places ie high streets, door ways to, restaurants, childrens play areas etc and don't even get me started on the bit outside the hospital and make people smoke in smoking rooms or back streets. I got abuse from a woman the other day who came over to speak to DD and puffed her smoke all over her when I asked her not to.

Laced with stinking French garlic, cheap cognac and more fags I hope!!

GilbonzoTheSecretPsych0Duck · 22/08/2011 20:13

Of course! No french household is complete without a 8.99? bottle of Lidl cognac.

DrPolidori · 22/08/2011 20:27

Of course, the lovely thing about Paris is that all those ghastly fag butts get cleaned up each morning...

At some point in the future, no one will smoke. In the transition phase, try not to over-exercise the judgey stuff about smoking.

You don't like it? Neither do I, and I am a smoker. But hey, none of us own the outside (for the moment) so YABU. Get over being precious, move away.
Every time I settle down for a nice coffee and a fag in the morning (outside my local cafe) if a mum and a child sit down next to me, I put out my fag. Should I have to? No. But I do. Cos I am nice. But did they have to sit down next to me? No. They could have chosen a table away from me.
Dont, ah, tar all smokers with the intent of killing you, your children, and hoping your clothes smell shit when you go home. Its not all about you!

scaryfairy28 · 22/08/2011 21:10

No I haven't disappeared and no it's not a wind up I've been speaking about it with my OH for weeks I really dont see why I should have to walk through clouds of smoke to get into my local supermarket, hospital or have to sit inside at my local cafe cos all the tables are full of smokers. I honestly do believe smoker should smoke away from public areas but don't expect smokers to agree.

so what you going to do about it then op??

usualsuspect · 22/08/2011 21:15

OP is going to moan on and on and on and on

Thats what shes going to do about it

K999 · 22/08/2011 21:18

I strongly disagree OP but then you'd expect me to because I'm a smoker! Grin

But then you did ask the question in AIBU ..

So yes IMO YABU....

reelingintheyears · 22/08/2011 21:19

..and on and on and on...

Passes the fag around.

.

ChumleeIsMyHomeboy · 22/08/2011 21:21

DrP - I always assume that if someone can see me smoking outside with my coffee and still elect to sit next to me then they really have nobody to blame but themselves. Similarly if I choose to sit next to a party of 6 hyperactive toddlers and a screaming baby then I really can't complain can I?

DrPolidori · 22/08/2011 21:24

In which case OP, maybe you need to complain about ill thought out public policy.

After all, your car pumps more shit into my child's lungs than I ever could with my occasional fags. And your foreign holidays....

Oh my! Occasionally you are forced to mince past smokers outside a building! Get a bloody grip! They aren't threatening you with Uzis, they are excercising their rights in a democracy, just as you are with your shitty old cars and foreign holidays.

Feminine · 22/08/2011 21:25

op how on earth do you think the powers that be,could put in to place such rules?

I don't smoke ,I wouldn't stop others though ...its just not fair!

Asmodeus · 22/08/2011 21:26

DrPolidori Applause

alphabettyspagghetti · 22/08/2011 21:26

I can see why people find it irritating. I do too and I smoke. I hate walking behind people who are smoking, which is why I either slowdown or overtake them.

Standing around with someone blowing smoke out of their face and it blows into yours either deliberatly or by the wind..easy solution...move your backside to another position.

Personally, I miss the smell of fag smoke in pubs, they just smell so wrong now since the ban..I dont even like going in there because of the smell of stale alcohol which to me is worse.

DrPolidori · 22/08/2011 21:27

Exactly chumlee, but what is the difference in our reactions? I stub out the fag (being nice and all that) If I lit up outside while they were there already? Keel the beetch!

We as smokers already make sure we are not annoying non smokers.

So keep your tuts to yourselves

pictish · 22/08/2011 21:29

Yabu and insufferably pompous.

"I really dont see why I should have to walk through clouds of smoke to get into my local supermarket, hospital or have to sit inside at my local cafe cos all the tables are full of smokers."

I'll tell you why you should have to.......because some of us fucking smoke ok? Tough!

K999 · 22/08/2011 21:29

Pubs do smell worse! Sweaty old BO and a distinct whiff of shite.

Or maybe it's just the type of pubs I frequent Grin

ChumleeIsMyHomeboy · 22/08/2011 21:30

I agree your approach is more charitable than mine DrP - kudos to you for that. I obviously would not blow smoke all over non-smokers (however much I might wish to) and I'm always conscious of the potential irriation and keep the smoke/fag away as far as possible but fuck it, you know - sometimes it just gets right on my tit ends!

DrPolidori · 22/08/2011 21:30

And farts. OMG. At least the fag smoke kept the farts smell at bay.....

fart smoke and beer belching.

TBH. Smokers did you all a favour.

alphabettyspagghetti · 22/08/2011 21:32

K999 the smell of BO, stale alcohol and sweaty feet! It's vile! It's no wonder you see more people mingling outside, fagging it or not!

usualsuspect · 22/08/2011 21:33

All the best people stand outside smoking anyway

alphabettyspagghetti · 22/08/2011 21:34
LostInTheWoods · 22/08/2011 21:34

Does outdoor passive smoking, carry any risks? Serious, scientifically studied and demonstrated risks?

If not, sod off. You can't ban something because you personally find it unpleasant.

K999 · 22/08/2011 21:34

I always have a better laugh and chat with the fellow smokers outside the pub. It's not just the smell of beer that's stale inside, it's the non smoking atmosphere too! Grin

reelingintheyears · 22/08/2011 21:35

What if you fart and smoke and burp at the same time?

Which smell is best?

GypsyMoth · 22/08/2011 21:35

op....come back with some more gems!
