AIBU re Pizza Hut buffet?

I took DS to Pizza Hut today for a treat. We both ordered the all you can eat buffet. DS' plate consisted of 1 slice of pizza, 5 slices of cucumber, 3 cherry tomatoes, croutons, a bread stick, potato salad and some bacon bits. I had 2 platefuls of filled of salad (lettuce, onion, beetroot, potato salad, peppers, cucumber, sweetcorn, peppers etc) and also had 4 slices of pizza altogether (but didn't eat it all).

However, I witnessed one very large lady fill her plate with a slice of every pizza available (6 pizzas), topped with pasta. She did this twice while we were there. Plus, as soon as new pizzas arrived people swamped the table and took way more than a human with a normal sized stomach could eat!

Is this normal practise in Pizza Hut?! Or do I just live in the wild??

When I was 18 me and uni mates had a comp to see who could eat the most, I had 13 slices of pizza. Oh and I was really skinny back then.

deariedearieme · 17/08/2011 19:02

dearie dearie me

another mother well on the way to inflicting her eating issues on her offspring

yay! Grin

Bogeyface · 17/08/2011 19:05

Nice treat for your DS, going out for lunch with Mummy only to have Mummy spend her time counting how many slices of pizza other people are eating and barely speaking through her cats bum mouth.

I bet he cant wait for the next "treat" :o

Bogeyface · 17/08/2011 19:06

Oh and regarding the fresh pizza being bought out, yes it does cause a bit of a feeding frenzy as it is tastes much nicer newly brought out than when it has sat under heat lights for 10 minutes!

activate · 17/08/2011 19:12

YAdefinitely U going to pizza hut - and taking a child

have you no taste buds?

Onemorning · 17/08/2011 20:24

YABU and very judgey. I don't believe you'd have been half as irked if the woman hadn't been fat.

And, Pizza Hut? Ew....

CalmaLlamaDown · 17/08/2011 20:24

OP - what a delightful treat for your DS sat there whilst you taking an inventory of the items on everyone's plate when it's absolutely none of your business

BsshBossh · 17/08/2011 20:28

YABU for pointing out that one of the people helping themselves to the buffet was "very large"!

BendyBob · 17/08/2011 20:47

Yanbu to notice. I do too sometimes. 'All you can eat' is often the green light for people to be very greedy. I saw a man load so many roast potatoes on his plate at one of those carvery places once he needed a flag on top.

Onemorning · 17/08/2011 20:52

Was he fat, Bob? Enquiring minds need to know...

pigletmania · 17/08/2011 20:54

Yeh op if the lady was fat would you have commented or felt the same I wonder Hmm, what with you and Spud you make a good team Grin

pigletmania · 17/08/2011 20:56

I can just picture it now OP you and spud standing at buffets monitoring how much somebody is having in relation to how big they are Smile

BendyBob · 17/08/2011 20:59

Didn't especially notice. It was the tottering tower of roasties that caught my attention and his attempts to keep the whole lot from falling off.

tethersend · 17/08/2011 21:00

"DS' plate consisted of 1 slice of pizza, 5 slices of cucumber, 3 cherry tomatoes, croutons, a bread stick, potato salad and some bacon bits."

YABU for not counting the croutons and bacon bits. How on earth are we expected to pass judgement on this scenario which almost definitely happened?

Bogeyface · 17/08/2011 21:17

OK, time to fess up.....

I have been thinking about this since I posted earlier and I am wondering if the woman the OP saw was me!

H and I took the kids to pizza hut for lunch today. It was a treat that they chose, we would have preferred practically anywhere else but a promise is a promise....wont make that mistake again :o

As we have the baby, plus the three kids, I went up once with them and allowed them some salad and one slice of pizza each even though they wanted loads. I said that they could have as much as they wanted BUT only one slice at a time as I hate people taking food and then not eating it.

Each time they finished a slice (they had three each iirc) I went back and got another slice for each of them, one for me and one for H. So I did got a couple of times and come back with 2 plates covered food!

But you know what? We paid for the buffet, ate what we took and didnt act like greedy pigs. I simply visited more than once because it was simpler than coralling them while they took themselves.

And I am size 16 btw :o

Bogeyface don't tell me your midwife's gloves are still in your dishwasher so you can't wash dishes therefore you can't cook dinner ?

strictlovingmum · 17/08/2011 22:17

The whole chain restaurant type food is rank, I am very dubious how on earth can they afford to dish out food of any standard is beyond me.
Taking children there for "special treat", well there is nothing special about it.
Someone up the tread made comparison between "eat as mush as you like" restaurants here in the U.K and States, Florida( where apparently eating in such an establishments is more civilised affair), let them eat themselves to death in civilised manner, and forgive me if I give these fine eateries wide miss.
All of this rubbish of eat as much as you like, is very damaging in current obesity crisis and should be stamped out, and if you have a stomach for it turn you telly now onto "itv" news and look at the children of Somalia.
Perhaps next time you will finish that one slice of pizza, before reaching for seconds.

A1980 · 17/08/2011 22:21

Well equally it could be said YABU for going to an all you can eat buffet and having such a small amount of food. You must have paid £6.99 for yourself and £3.99 for you child. £11 to have 5 slices of pizza and some salad between the two of you that you didn't even finsih. Why the hell did you bother wasting your money?

Would you like congratulating for your restraint? Or are you just bragging?

A1980 · 17/08/2011 22:22

PS it's ironic for you to say you took DS there for a treat. You seem to be bragging that you're not unhealthy and don't over eat but my mother would not have taken me there in a million years when I was a child. Reason being it's an expensive, unhealthy shit hole.

Bogeyface · 17/08/2011 22:30

:o Fuck off LOTR that was AGES ago! :o:o

And I agree that it is an expensive unhealthy shithole but the promise was that the kids could choose, and they threw a curve ball! Normally they want to go to our friends pub that does amazing food, littles gits :o

A1980 · 17/08/2011 22:33

Normally they want to go to our friends pub that does amazing food, littles gits

Should have over ruled them: mum is god!

ThatWomanAgain · 17/08/2011 22:35

I've been once and ate around 10 slices.

In my defence I'd never been to pizza hut before and I love pizza.

P.S. I'm a size 10 before you imagine me.

Bogeyface · 17/08/2011 22:35

I did think about it, but a promise is a promise, and it was their reward from their reward charts over the last month as we have had some ishoos, and they have done really well.

Next time it wont be "we can go wherever you like for lunch" but "we can go to X for lunch", I intend to learn from this mistake!

LordOfTheFlies · 17/08/2011 22:36

Bogey it's Flies flippin Flies not Lord of the Rings Tsk.

And I've already fucked off and when I got there I fucked off again Grin
