AIBU re Pizza Hut buffet?

I took DS to Pizza Hut today for a treat. We both ordered the all you can eat buffet. DS' plate consisted of 1 slice of pizza, 5 slices of cucumber, 3 cherry tomatoes, croutons, a bread stick, potato salad and some bacon bits. I had 2 platefuls of filled of salad (lettuce, onion, beetroot, potato salad, peppers, cucumber, sweetcorn, peppers etc) and also had 4 slices of pizza altogether (but didn't eat it all).

However, I witnessed one very large lady fill her plate with a slice of every pizza available (6 pizzas), topped with pasta. She did this twice while we were there. Plus, as soon as new pizzas arrived people swamped the table and took way more than a human with a normal sized stomach could eat!

Is this normal practise in Pizza Hut?! Or do I just live in the wild??

We have the BEST all you can eat Indian by us. I must say I usually manage to end up with a plate full of pakoras, bhajis, papadoms and dip followed by 2 large plates of curry/rice/naan. People probably think I'm a greedy so and so but the food is soooo nice. I wouldn't eat anything else for the rest of the day though. And I'm pretty slim so don't see the harm in being a bloater every now and again.

squeakytoy · 17/08/2011 01:01

Cosmo is indian/chinese/thai/japanese/english .. in fact it is pure buffet perfection! Grin

Jimmy Spices is also very good for a variety of both Indian and Chinese too...

I do love a good buffet... Grin much better than ordering one dish off a menu. I was in absolute heaven when we were in Vegas as that is the main way to eat.. nothing in the world can compare to a Vegas buffet..

organicgardener · 17/08/2011 01:01

Wimpy burgers when I was a nipper.

It was a treat to go to a cafe and Taxi's were cars adults used when they were hammered of a night.

squeakytoy · 17/08/2011 01:06

I also remember ice-cream from the market came in cardboard type boxes, there was either vanilla, chocolate, or strawberry.. or to be really exotic, you could get neopolitan... and they wrapped it in newspaper rather than gave you a carrier bag.. (come to think of it, everything was paper bags too back then.. no plastic bags hardly)..

When Walls brought the Vienetta out, it was like some luxury food that we all "had" to have..

FreudianSlipper · 17/08/2011 01:08

i am 38

i can remember going to the first mcdonalds, we had been to nottinghill carnival and then queued for ages, i remember trying to drink the milkshake it was too thick

by 1986 there was 100 Pizza Huts in the UK one was in wimbledon (or soon after then) and FreudianSlipper had lunch there with her friends

muffinflop · 17/08/2011 01:12

LOL ok I shouldn't have commented on her size! But seriously who can eat 12 slices of pizza? (it could have been more because she was still there when DS and I left). And as for my 4 slices...I didn't eat the crusts Wink

But the swarming of newly cooked pizzas. is that normal?!

Yes it's an 'all you can eat' but there should be an 'all you can eat without being a greedy pig' policy. Yes I'm being unreasonable there but I don't care!

YABU for at least four reasons:

  1. You listed every single morsel you and your DS ate highlighting the fact that you both had a lot of salad i.e. I'm such a good mum that my son will eat all his veg.

  2. You didn't eat all of the food you took i.e. hey look at me, I ate loads of veg but bugger all pizza (when actually you just seem to be boasting about the fact that you wasted food).

  3. Why did you have to single out the "very large lady" when everyone in the restaurant was stuffing their faces? At least the "very large lady" presumably ate all of the food that she took rather than just wasting it.

  4. It's pretty standard human behaviour to take "all you can eat" as a challenge due to the fact that for the billion or so years that we have been evolving on this planet food has been in short supply and it's only really in the last few decades where food has been so plentiful that being able to turn down food has actually become a selected for characteristic in evolutionary terms.

MightyQuim · 17/08/2011 01:17

But you go a la carte if you're not a greedy pig surely? All you can eat is made for greedy buggers like me

ChippingIn · 17/08/2011 01:19

You are not only unreasonable - you are also bitchy. But hey ho, fat bashing is acceptable on MN as well as IRL isn't it... so ... I guess over weight people just have to put up with it Hmm

Mind you, you weren't quite as offensive as organic whatever her name is - she takes it to another letter and I hope she's proud of herself Hmm

muffinflop · 17/08/2011 01:19

ok...1) My DS ate cucumber and tomatoes - hardly eating 'all veg'. In fact he's more a fruit eater and I don't think my parenting has any relevance on that!
2) I only left my crusts
3) The very large lady ate 12 slices of pizza and a plate piled of pasta...why would I notice her? And I also commented on the other people eating way too much!
4) All you can eat is a shit concept

Anything else?!

OP posts:
organicgardener · 17/08/2011 01:20

Why was I offensive LOL?

You're very preachy aren't you?

muffinflop · 17/08/2011 01:21

Who am I bitching about?! Was just wondering if every Pizza Hut had hordes of people gathering at their pizza all you can eat buffets...

OP posts:
MightyQuim · 17/08/2011 01:23

Why did you choose the all you can eat option then? You should have just got a small pizza to share. Kids eat free and salad is free at Pizza Hut - would have been cheaper for you.

organicgardener · 17/08/2011 01:23

Chippingin must be tired Muffinflop.

:)

MightyQuim · 17/08/2011 01:25

OK. Well the answer is pretty much yes. If you pay for all you can eat you generally either have a big appetite or are mega hungry. Kinda obvious really.

muffinflop · 17/08/2011 01:25

I don't go into Pizza Hut that often and didn't realise what offers were on. DS got his free anyway (kids eat free including buffets apparently!). Is it really cheaper to buy one pizza between us?

OP posts:
MightyQuim · 17/08/2011 01:27

If your ds only had one slice and you only had 4 then you could have got a small one which would have been cheaper than the adult all you can eat. You would have got free salad too.
You are clearly not up to the challenge of all you can eat so should go for this option in future Grin

muffinflop · 17/08/2011 01:29

Will remember that next time mightyQuim..not that there will be a next time I imagine!!

It wasn't even nice food!

OP posts:
ChippingIn · 17/08/2011 01:30

OrganicGardener - why exactly must ChippingIn be tired? Because she finds both of you rude and bitchy - and now patronising?

Fuck
Off
and when you get there
Fuck
Off
Again

muffinflop · 17/08/2011 01:31

And again...who am I being bitchy about?!!

OP posts:
organicgardener · 17/08/2011 01:31

She could be snippy too.

It's not time for a group hug now is it?

:)

muffinflop · 17/08/2011 01:31

And you can stick your group hug up your organic arse Grin

OP posts:
MightyQuim · 17/08/2011 01:32

I beg to differ. Pizza Hut is my fave pizza. Others just taste dry not greasy enough to me. The salad is rank though.

organicgardener · 17/08/2011 01:32

There's nothing organic about my arse.

Stop being bitchy :)

muffinflop · 17/08/2011 01:33

Actually I'm patronising your arse...can I make a flag for it?!
