AIBU re Pizza Hut buffet?

I took DS to Pizza Hut today for a treat. We both ordered the all you can eat buffet. DS' plate consisted of 1 slice of pizza, 5 slices of cucumber, 3 cherry tomatoes, croutons, a bread stick, potato salad and some bacon bits. I had 2 platefuls of filled of salad (lettuce, onion, beetroot, potato salad, peppers, cucumber, sweetcorn, peppers etc) and also had 4 slices of pizza altogether (but didn't eat it all).

However, I witnessed one very large lady fill her plate with a slice of every pizza available (6 pizzas), topped with pasta. She did this twice while we were there. Plus, as soon as new pizzas arrived people swamped the table and took way more than a human with a normal sized stomach could eat!

Is this normal practise in Pizza Hut?! Or do I just live in the wild??

"had 4 slices of pizza altogether (but didn't eat it all)" Yes YABU - don;t take more than you can eat.

And take a book or a board game to keep you occupied rather than watch the other patrons, time will pass more quickly.

monoid · 17/08/2011 13:45

I think Pizza Hut are unreasonable. I took dd for a buffet the other day and we were queueing for pizzas for ages because they didn't have any ready. Then 2 people took half a pizza each and so I still had to queue and then we still didn't get any of the next pizza. DD prefers the vegetarian pizzas and there wasn't one brought out the entire time we were there so she had pepperoni instead and a plateful of "bacon bits" Grin which I think are foul. She liked the pasta though. Paid for all I could eat, but couldn't eat that much because the pizzas weren't coming out fast enough.
There was a girl who was standing there for the entire time we were there and still when we left because there hadn't been a vegetarian pizza come out of the kitchen at all.
I don't have a problem with people eating loads but do have a problem with them taking 6 slices at a time. I have more of a problem with Pizza Hut for not keeping up with demand.

whatsallthehullaballoo · 17/08/2011 13:47

Wow- larger people/ fat people are treated like fucking criminals. This thread has shocked me that's for sure.

DizzyKipper · 17/08/2011 13:49

YABU, stuffing yourself silly is part of the challenge of an all you can eat. If you're not going to make use of the economy of an all you can eat then I'd lean towards a proper meal personally.

handbagCrab · 17/08/2011 13:51

I'm not really sure if you choose to go in a fast food, all you can eat restaurant in the first place how you can judge others for their food choices, treat or not!

Popbiscuit · 17/08/2011 14:04

Yes. Fast Food is not a treat in any way, shape or form. It doesn't taste good, it's not good for you.

catus · 17/08/2011 14:10

I don't usually post on here, but OP, you are just too much. Your nastiness is shocking. Would you like your DC to have the same attitude as you towards his fellow men?

thinNigella · 17/08/2011 14:14

i used to work there when I was a student, hundreds of years ago

It never failed to amaze me why people would eat it. We had strict rules on the amount of toppings per pizza and the type of toppings (never chicken oh no, and only one slice of pepperoni per pizza slice). The stuff was kept out far too long and the pasta was slimy bolognaise or tomato (vegetarian you see, not because it was cheap [hmmm])

It also amazed me that we would have large groups of people coming in to order it, usually less plates than people IYSWIM and would then order tap water to drink. They'd have thousands of kids with them, make a right mess everywhere, and eat for a sum total of about £0.50 per head! I wouldn't have minded but I was the one clearing up the smeared cheese and single units of pepperoni off the floor!!

I don't eat much pizza these days ...

Insomnia11 · 17/08/2011 14:14

In my teens, we eschewed Pizza Hut as the pizzas were minging, all doughy and rubbish. Pizzaland was the best, nice thin crispy pizzas, more like Pizza Express... Sadly they disappeared (became Bella Pasta?) Pizza Hut pizzas did improve though in the 90s.

susiedaisy · 17/08/2011 14:14

message to OP havent read the entire thread, firstly whay on earth did you count every tomato and piece of cucumber etc on your childs plateConfused secondly why did you need to mention the lady size? thirdly i have been to PH buffet lunch and quite often take several pieces of pizza for my kids as well so sometimes i take 4/5 pieces at once and hand out several to the kids, particularly if we have been sat waiting for the meat one or cheese one whatever, the salad bar in my opinion can be poor in some of the outlets, and so for us the main enjoyment is the pizza and the pasta and because it is an occasional treat we may eat a few more slices than we would if we were at homeShock if it was rudness or disgusting hygiene habits that effected other people i could understand your dismay, but tbh you sound alittle smug and self righteous, stop looking at other people and get on and enjoy yourselves,

jellybeans208 · 17/08/2011 14:17

Its greed if they fill their plate up and leave a lot of it. Why not just get up get some and then get some more in a minute. I also hate excessive wastefulness.

I hate people that pick up most of the pizza in one go when there is a massive queue as its bad manners to take slices anod slices in one go and have your plate piled ridiculously high so other people have to wait for a long time. You can go up as many times as you like so why stuff the whole buffet on your plate like a mountain imo

thinNigella · 17/08/2011 14:22

By the way, in those days I think it was 'all you can eat for £1.99' or something like that. It wa a high kid: adult ratio though.

susiedaisy · 17/08/2011 14:23

i dont think the uk is used to buffet style diners when we have been to florida there is lots of them and people take their time choosing the food and only take a bit at a time, but they are used to them, in the uk we can tend to go a bit mad as we are not used to the food being there in plentiful amounts for you to take your time over and choose a little bit of everything if you wish, def noticed a difference from over there to here.

pizza hut isnt great though our nearest outlet seats over 60 people and they bring the pizzas out at a snails pace, one at a time, i do wonder if its ploy to make sure you eat less or get fed up of waiting.

Chummybud1 · 17/08/2011 15:32

Good on her for getting her money's worth, I think when you go to an all you can eat buffet, you should actually eat all you can eat.why was the op so interested in what someone else was eating.

AmazingBouncingFerret · 17/08/2011 17:43

If people think pizza hut is bad for people loading up their plates with crappy food you've obviously never been to the hell on earth that is known as Taybarns

GetOrfMoiSamsungFridgeFreezer · 17/08/2011 18:01

Comes on the thread to clout organic very hard with a laptop bag.

How fucking annoying are you.

That is all.

GetOrfMoiSamsungFridgeFreezer · 17/08/2011 18:02

And Pizza Hut buffets are gopping. That aint a treat. If I was your dc OP I would cry and ask for a proper treat.

bellaisinHawaii · 17/08/2011 18:06

YABU for even going to Pizza Hut - tis shite.

whostolemyname · 17/08/2011 18:18

I have no problem with people taking all they can eat ... thats the idea.

I do have a problem with people like the OP who take food and dont eat it. That is wasteful.

Pancakeflipper · 17/08/2011 18:28

I like Dominoes. I like the Texas BBQ pizza and their tiny garlic bread.

They have no restaurant. It's takeaway only. I wondered why but it's obvious - it's so people go home to dribble pizza down their chins in privacy not with people sat there counting their pizza slices.

Then again an all you can eat buffet is wasted on me. I can't eat huge amounts or I puke.

HansieMom · 17/08/2011 18:30

It really was Pizza Hut 35 years ago, in the states. Another time we went to a buffet of general type foods and a woman got an ice cream cone and loaded it with about 10 inches of ice cream. It was so so greedy. Once at a club function, one of the first men at a buffet heaped his plate with food. I was at the end of the line, and got two crackers. But the three teens at PH who ran up to get first in line is still memorable.

emmanumber3 · 17/08/2011 18:50

YABVU - clearly. A person who pays for an "all you can eat" buffet is entitled to eat as much or as little as they like. YABU for thinking it has anything whatsoever to do with you (and a complete bitch for making an example of that one lady because she is overweight). When I first met my DH he could easily have eaten 12 slices of pizza & pasta on top - and weighed about 10 stone with a 30" waist. Maybe you are annoyed that other diners were obviously cleverer than you? It is a pretty stupid choice to pay for all you can eat when you'd rather nibble on a bit of lettuce, whereas, someone with a large appetite is taking advantage of a good offer Smile.

The one concession I would make is that there should probably be a "2 slices at a time" sort of rule to make sure everyone is getting served fairly. It wouldn't stop people having 12 slices - just not all on one plate!

LolaRennt · 17/08/2011 18:52

Buffets are a challenge YABU

cricketballs · 17/08/2011 18:56

op - I can not wait until your ds is a bit older and will eat you out of house and home (without putting an ounce of weight Envy!)! I can just imagine the thread now.........

TheHumanCatapult · 17/08/2011 18:59
