AIBU re Pizza Hut buffet?

I took DS to Pizza Hut today for a treat. We both ordered the all you can eat buffet. DS' plate consisted of 1 slice of pizza, 5 slices of cucumber, 3 cherry tomatoes, croutons, a bread stick, potato salad and some bacon bits. I had 2 platefuls of filled of salad (lettuce, onion, beetroot, potato salad, peppers, cucumber, sweetcorn, peppers etc) and also had 4 slices of pizza altogether (but didn't eat it all).

However, I witnessed one very large lady fill her plate with a slice of every pizza available (6 pizzas), topped with pasta. She did this twice while we were there. Plus, as soon as new pizzas arrived people swamped the table and took way more than a human with a normal sized stomach could eat!

Is this normal practise in Pizza Hut?! Or do I just live in the wild??

At what organic? Your last post didn't make sense.

chubsasaurus · 17/08/2011 11:23

YANBU

I am often rather shocked at all you can eat places.

Surely it should be renamed 'as much as you like' because 'all you can eat' sounds like a challenge and lots of people seem to take it as such.

Why would you want to eat until you're bloated? It cannot be healthy.

rainbowinthesky · 17/08/2011 11:23

Why is it fat people "gorge" their food according to some posters here?

organicgardener · 17/08/2011 11:23

It did.

Have a coffee Joric it's way too early to begin with this childish nonsense.

:)

worraliberty · 17/08/2011 11:25

This thread has made me laugh! Especially the OP listing every salad item!

OP, some people are just greedy...whether they're fat or thin and I think the 'swarming' round the new pizzas is probably because the cheese is nice and soft and stringy when a pizza is freshly cooked. That's one of the reasons I don't like pizza buffets...the cheese sets and makes it all a bit rank.

CheeseandGherkins · 17/08/2011 11:26

Love those passive aggressive smiley faces

I totally agree with ChippingIn

ExitPursuedByATroll · 17/08/2011 11:28

Not read all the thread - but we went to Pizza hut yesterday and it was horrid. I don't know why I go.

But - I was in there once and a large family had the buffet, finally refilled their plates with pizza and then asked for carry out boxes to take home what they hadn't eaten.

Incidentally, by large I mean in number, not girth.

organicgardener · 17/08/2011 11:28

Passive aggressive smilies?

You've got the right name for this thread though.

revolutionscoop · 17/08/2011 11:29

When I was a student, I had a summer job working in a restaurant at a 'classy' resort/ casino type place abroad. They had an all you can eat buffet in the evenings with prawns, lobster tails & all manner of delicacies. I can personally vouch for the fact that the people gorging themselves to the point of abject gluttony at this particular buffet were of all shapes & sizes, both large and small, of both sexes, and of a variety of nationalities. Most were clearly affluent and there were also a number of celebrities. Clearing up the tables afterwards was horrendous. People would fill up their plates with a mound of one thing, then lose interest and abandon their plate to go and fill another with something else. They would casually disregard bowls provided, scattering prawn shells and heads across the linen table cloths. The finger bowls for the prawns were diabolical. I left with an enduringly bad impression of the eating habits, greed and general table manners of the general public :)
One particular group of people, however, was significantly worse than the rest. Suffice to relate it was not the 'large' customers, but rather a particular ethnic group. I would obviously never disclose which one on a public forum!

CheeseandGherkins · 17/08/2011 11:30

Yes, I assume you know what that means. Sorry to disappoint you love but I'm a size 8, oh well, there's one of your reasons for people disagreeing with you out the window. Also pregnant.

Verahaspurpletwuntypants · 17/08/2011 11:32

All you can eat buffet is exactly that. All you can eat.
OP you had 2 bowls of salad and 4! Slices of pizza.

If this woman had ordered a pizza you would not have batted an eye lid. But because it was a "buffet" I think you put your judge pants on.

GypsyMoth · 17/08/2011 11:34

Bloody thread!

I want pizza hut now!

TheBigJessie · 17/08/2011 11:37

And I'd think 'disordered eating' too if I saw a very pathologically thin woman picking the batter off her fish and chips in public too.

I'd think she didn't like the taste or texture of excessive batter.

fuckityfuckfuckfuck · 17/08/2011 11:38

I pick off batter. I also blot pizzas with my napkin to get rid of the grease. And I'm skinny. Judge away

strictlovingmum · 17/08/2011 11:38

This a question of "hungry eyes", it is there for taking, so some people tend to fill the plates for the sake of it.
Very little consideration is given to the fact of enormous uneaten food waste, I am afraid it's a disease of the "Western civilised world", so exclusive to us.

muminthemiddle · 17/08/2011 11:40

I'm with Pawnsandclaws.
I haven't been in Pizza Hut for years and remember well the one visit to the salad bar rule. The bowls were so small you did indeed have to glue/wedge your salad in with dips.
I must be really bitchy/sad/whatever too as I always register those who pile their plates sky high with evertyhing and then proceed to leave 3/4 of it, whislt ensuring that other diners are left with virtually nothing to eat.

I don't like buffets. Nothing wrong with people eating what they like but on many occassions now I have had the misfortune of having someone take virtually everything and smirk at me as if to say "there you go nothing left for you now!"

PerryCombover · 17/08/2011 11:41

Spudulika

You cannot speak of discreetly noticing what someone eats and then discussing it using the term gorging.

I think I've seen many examples of people with disordered eating patterns in the world but I'm unsure that an all you can eat buffet is the best place to experience it as many people abuse its abundance.

What do you consider to be disordered eating? How do you personally make that diagnosis given just a few scant pieces of evidence?

BTW when you said pathologically thin did you mean anorexic?

HPonEverything · 17/08/2011 11:42

YABU about the lady in question
I actually envy those who can get their money's worth in all-you-can-eat restaurants, because I never do.

However I have a real problem with the pizza hut buffet at my local hut as it's always cold/soggy/rank and seems like much less effort has been put into it than those paying through the nose for a proper pizza. As a fan of variety I don't see why I should have to eat lesser quality food!

TheBigJessie · 17/08/2011 11:45

It is certainly obnoxious for people to take stuff they won't eat, such as those boys who were taking one bite from each slice of pizza, as described by previous poster.

Can't really get het up by someone eating more than me, though.

Ormirian · 17/08/2011 11:50

It's up to you if you dont eat as much as anyone else but I have to say that I find it quite disgusting the amount some people eat at Pizza Hut. Much more than any healthy person needs in day let alone for one meal. And so much starch! Pizza and salad sounds OK but when the 'salad' consists of pasta, potatoes and croutons it's not exactly balanced.

We rarely go there TBH. Food is fairly crap anyway IME.

muminthemiddle · 17/08/2011 11:53

revolution I agree.
Years ago I worked in a very plush hotel. Small rural affair it was.
Remember well the Christmas party were all drinks were on the house. Guests were ordering drinks as if their life depended on it.
Example:
Guest "Give me a vodka"
Barstaff: "Single?"
Guest: "Hell no, a double, no infact make it a tripple and while you're at it put some coke in."
Guest takes one sip, then leaves drink on bar proceeds to order a different drink.
This went on all night by a large percentage, if not vast majority of the guests.
All the staff and the manager were shocked at the greed and waste. Seriously I have never seen anything like it.

PerryCombover · 17/08/2011 12:04

oi fuckity

are you pathologically thin though?

fuckityfuckfuckfuck · 17/08/2011 12:05

Well noone's given me a certificate saying I am, so I guess not. How disappointing.

PerryCombover · 17/08/2011 12:10

fuckity

would you say you have disordered eating?

Popbiscuit · 17/08/2011 12:12

All you can eat buffets are gross. They bring out the worst in everyone.
The correct serving size for an adult woman is ONE piece of pizza (esp. if from Pizza Hut as it's the most nutritionally unsound), unless you are an athlete or unusually tall.
