AIBU re Pizza Hut buffet?

I took DS to Pizza Hut today for a treat. We both ordered the all you can eat buffet. DS' plate consisted of 1 slice of pizza, 5 slices of cucumber, 3 cherry tomatoes, croutons, a bread stick, potato salad and some bacon bits. I had 2 platefuls of filled of salad (lettuce, onion, beetroot, potato salad, peppers, cucumber, sweetcorn, peppers etc) and also had 4 slices of pizza altogether (but didn't eat it all).

However, I witnessed one very large lady fill her plate with a slice of every pizza available (6 pizzas), topped with pasta. She did this twice while we were there. Plus, as soon as new pizzas arrived people swamped the table and took way more than a human with a normal sized stomach could eat!

Is this normal practise in Pizza Hut?! Or do I just live in the wild??

Am with you there springlamb. I can't abide watching other people pick things up with their fingers, pick their noses, lick their fingers, trail sweetcorn into the dips, etc. etc.

Pizza Hut used to be nice - I vividly remember watching my ex-boyfriend at the salad bar, as he had a special "method" for loading the bowl (it was one visit only in those days). He used to make a sort of extension of carefully crafted cucumber slices along the edge of the bowl, overlapped for extra support, then load - small items first packed down in the bottom of the bowl, then precariously topped with dips and larger items (usually a few tomatoes) wobbling on the top. Funny enough he was an engineering student! It was quite a work of art and much admired. He was very thin though Wink.

Don't like it now though, our local one is all sticky tables and sullen customers and staff.

My Mum and I went there last week, it was ok, nought special at all - but to be honest i wouldn't have had a CLUE who else ate what or how much they ate at all - was too busy eating my own lunch and having a chat with my Mum to be concerned with what others may be doing.

And your DS surely ate for free? Thought children eat free at pizza hut?

Cheria · 17/08/2011 10:24

YABU. It's all you can eat and it is really good value. When it's all you can eat, nothing wrong with being greedy.

loopylou6 · 17/08/2011 10:34

Op, perhaps you should mind your own business?
OrganicGardener, you are quite obviously a twat.

manicinsomniac · 17/08/2011 10:37

You are being very unreasonable

  1. It's an all you can eat buffet. The clues in the name. If you can't or don't want to eat a lot then don't waste your money.

  2. The woman's size is irrelevant, lots of people of all sizes stuff themselves at those buffets because that's the point of them!

You are not being unreasonable to object to the concept of all you can eats or to Pizza Hut - but in that case just accept that it's not for you and don't go again.

JanMorrow · 17/08/2011 10:40

what a strange and boring thing to get excited about.. what was the point of the op? It's all you can eat, let people eat what they like! It's nothing to do with you.

TheBigJessie · 17/08/2011 10:48

Pizza Hut still runs the buffets

therefore -->

buffets must be profitable

therefore -->

many/most people don't get their money's worth

therefore -->

these people on your visit were exceptional

Does the above reassure you, at all? Yes, there are logical flaws in it, but don't look for them! Pretend they're not there!

Can I just but in to the pizza war here to say:

I once saw someone (not a child/teen but middle aged woman) lick the serving spoon & put it back.

I don't eat buffets.

I am a big lady - I hate eating in public, as I am scared that people like you OP are looking at me and judging me.

Huffythetantrumslayer · 17/08/2011 11:01

ignores all the arguing and posts just to say I'm going to pizza hut tonight. Not really looking forward to it but my girlfriends want to go for the free salad. Confused

spudulika · 17/08/2011 11:05

Sorry - cyber punch me if you like, but there is something..... not good... about seeing really fat people gorging themselves.

It's like watching someone with emphysema lighting up a fag. You see it and can't help thinking, 'oh dear'.

spudulika · 17/08/2011 11:07

"as I am scared that people like you OP are looking at me and judging me"

They will be.

I use that thought as encouragement to keep my portion sizes reasonable when I'm eating in public.

Which is helpful for me as someone who doesn't want to be fat for the rest of my life.

PerryCombover · 17/08/2011 11:09

Women are horrible to other women over their size

It saddens me and cheapens us

rainbowinthesky · 17/08/2011 11:10

What a nasty thread this is. Sad

AmazingBouncingFerret · 17/08/2011 11:10

I went to a pizza restaurant the other week... The waiter asked me if I'd like it cutting into 6 slices, "oh good heavens no, I couldnt possibly eat 6 slices, cut it into 4 please" I replied...

Grin Wink
TheBigJessie · 17/08/2011 11:14

AmazingBouncingFerret

Lucky an MNer didn't overhear you and start a thread about it!

organicgardener · 17/08/2011 11:17

What people come on a thread like this, and announce they are not slim makes me wonder though.

gaaagh · 17/08/2011 11:17

"You are not only unreasonable - you are also bitchy."

Exactly.

What a horrid OP. Imagine sitting eating and you catch wind that the horrid lady at the next table and her salad eating angel Jacob is judging you like this at an all you can eat restaurant.

12 slices Hmm Did you stand and count them whilst the fatso was stuffing it in, did you?

joric · 17/08/2011 11:19

Come again organic?

spudulika · 17/08/2011 11:20

"Women are horrible to other women over their size"

Oh come on - we'd think the same if we saw a fat man gorging himself in public.

And I'd think 'disordered eating' too if I saw a very pathologically thin woman picking the batter off her fish and chips in public too.

Massive over-eating or disordered eating habits are going to arouse interest and (hopefully) sympathy. Especially when the manifestation of those disordered eating habits is there for everyone to see.

There's nothing wrong with noticing these things discretely or discussing your observations here on mumsnet.

AmazingBouncingFerret · 17/08/2011 11:21

Are overweight people not allowed to post on certain threads then?

Are you offended Joric ?

youarekidding · 17/08/2011 11:21
