I consider myself an active proponent of equality of opportunity and a stern critic of discrimination... and yet I find that I can't identify with many of the viewpoints I encounter on the MN feminism page (and often say so). AIBU?

Saying "I don't agree with the MN feminists" is like saying "I don't agree with MN".

It's impossible to agree with "MN feminists" because they/we are not a homogeneous mass who always have the same opinion.

Claw3 · 15/08/2011 12:03

ProfessionallyoffendedGoblin, why Eastbourne pier? Im going there on Friday!

OTheHugeManatee · 15/08/2011 12:03

Don't most of the minority topics on MN have a handful of bellicose extremists? Sort of the equivalent of The Gooners as compared to ordinary Arsenal fans?

AnyFucker · 15/08/2011 12:03

I think it far more likely there are one or two posters who use the feminist board that OP doesn't agree with

BelleDameSansMerci · 15/08/2011 12:04

POG Grin

ProfessionallyOffendedGoblin · 15/08/2011 12:04

Because Brighton might be a bit lively. Smile
I live in Sussex, so I took my analogies from my locality.

DontCallMeDragon · 15/08/2011 12:05

Ha, let's see... Some of the classics over the time I've had on there.

Do you believe men and women should be equal?
Do you believe women shouldn't be raped or harrassed?
If women are raped or harrassed, do you believe they shouldn't be blamed for it?
Do you agree that supporting an industry where women are systematically exploited, abused and raped is a bad idea...

Let me know when I find one you disagree with...

BelleDameSansMerci · 15/08/2011 12:06

Me, me! I'm happy to be one of the posters the OP disagrees with...

DontCallMeDragon · 15/08/2011 12:06

AnyFucker, that sounds about right...

Whatmeworry · 15/08/2011 12:06

The Dragon thing was multifacetious, which is why I used it :)

DontCallMeDragon · 15/08/2011 12:07

I'll gladly stick my hand up and be one of those posters, too. Y'know, supporting "equal rights" etc.

ProfessionallyOffendedGoblin · 15/08/2011 12:08

Let's broaden our cultural base then.
Chinese dragons are powerful, wise and creative, responsible for the balance and harmony of the world.

AnyFucker · 15/08/2011 12:09

DCMD, in which case, OP should say so and not disguise the fact by posting this disingenuous "all MN Feminists" bollocks

she knew there would be a pile-in of "yeah, I can't stand them uppity Fems too !!..."

she has beef with one or two articulate posters that have probably run rings around her

diddums

Claw3 · 15/08/2011 12:10

Oh i thought it might have been something a bit more exciting, like the antifeminist capital of the world. I will have to mutter to my parents 'It looks a bit rough out there now!

AnyFucker · 15/08/2011 12:10

or I should say attempt to disguise the fact...

DontCallMeDragon · 15/08/2011 12:12

Couldn't agree more... I think I know the individuals she's talking about, mind. Would love to see one of them on here Grin

solidgoldbrass · 15/08/2011 12:12

It's interesting how terribly proud of being unfeminist some women are. Whenever feminism is mentioned they have to start making a huge fucking noise about how it's Not For Them, they wouldn't dream of refusing to defer to men, feminists are horrible - and it's not enough for them not to be feminists themselves, they are frantic to stop other women from even mentioning feminism.

DontCallMeDragon · 15/08/2011 12:13

Claw3, feel free to join us on feminism, by all means Wink

Pagwatch · 15/08/2011 12:13

eastbourne. Anti-feminist capital of the world.
Has a certain ring. They should consider it

AnnieLobeseder · 15/08/2011 12:13

I am a MN feminist. I disagree with lots of the other MN feminists a lot of the time. Life would be dull if we all agreed.

YABU...

DontCallMeDragon · 15/08/2011 12:15

Ohhh wait, Jenny's done the old flame and run trick... Hmm How did we not see that coming?

AnyFucker · 15/08/2011 12:16

I have no idea who those individuals may be as haven't ventured to the Feminist board much recently

I recognise sour grapes when I see it though Smile

BonnieLassie · 15/08/2011 12:17

A lot of feminists are mouth frothing man-hating loonies. I think that's where the reluctance to be labelled as a feminist comes from. Most women I know actually like men, don't believe that all sex is rape, and don't suffer an attack of palpitations if a man opens a door for us or calls us "darling" or something.

yes i know a few women who think feminism has just made life harder for women and men have less respect for women now

i have to shut off when i hear utter rubbish like this, sometimes i will try and gently discuss issues with them but more often than not falls of deaf ears and it makes me annoyed and feel quite sad at the same time
