I consider myself an active proponent of equality of opportunity and a stern critic of discrimination... and yet I find that I can't identify with many of the viewpoints I encounter on the MN feminism page (and often say so). AIBU?

There is loads of frothing on these boards. You see it all the time feminist issues are discussed. I will try find some frothing to cut and paste here.

I am a feminist of 20+ years and find the feminist section quite anti men. my view of feminism is i want us all of be seen as people.

I like discussioning things with people in RL because there is more give and take, listening and reposnding, we all learn. I came to MN for the same type of dicussion but dont find it like that yet, including in the feminist area. however am stiling around becuase i really dont like it when people say go if you dont like it...MN is not theirs, they dont own it.

bonnielassie wherever do you live? I have not met any feminists like that, nor women actually.

DO you actually know any feminists, or is this all conjecture?

To be honest the section does seem to be a Man hating area.

You can't debate with a poster who drags up useless stat after stat while ignoring the overall bigger picture.

A poster above said it all when they said that misandry does take place there and is often unchallenged.

Equality is the way forward and in any political debate radicals are usually ignored.

I think you are being unreasonable; I found myself last week in total agreement with somebody about an issue that the day before I found myself totally disagreeing with.
People are going to agree on some things and not others. My favourite proverb is: even a stopped clock is right twice a day. It's absolutely right.

I find myself a bit Hmm at some of the things I read in the feminist section, and there are certain people who to me seem to have quite a bizarre and skewed view of reality. I guess it's the same in every political movement though, you will come across people with extreme views and rather strange ways of looking at things. They're all entitled to their opinions though, just as I'm entitled to disagree.

There's a lot I do agree with in there, and a lot of people who in my view really do talk sense and tell it as it is.

I've met the type and seen it on here, the type that Bonne is talking about. I was utterly disappointed and shocked, as I'd honestly believed some of the opinions on here were spread about by people who were anti feminist to make feminists look bad.

PP, would you tar "a lot of" Feminists with that brush, though ?

or accept that, like in any movement, there are people whose extreme-end-of-the-spectrum views are just that and keep your own sense of perspective ?

Dontcallmedragon, ok im not sure what shade i would be then Smile I will have to venture over, as long as you promise to let me go again! Im a bit worried about this 'mn feminist cult' rep on this thread. Will i be brainwashed and forced to hand over my nail varnish and high heels?

Claw, bloody hell - no! If anyone wants my heels they'll be priding them out of my cold, dead grip!

BelleDameAvecFroth isn't terribly catchy... Or appealing, tbh.
