This is a joke no? I shower/bath 3 times a week and do not smell. Whats with the smelling when you're on your period thing? Thats weird

fluffles · 23/07/2011 17:49

depends on loads of factors... can't say in general, don't think daily showers are necessary for everybody all the time..

OhYouBadBadKitten · 23/07/2011 17:52

The vast majority of the world does not shower everyday, they are not gross or offensive.

squeakytoy · 23/07/2011 17:54

Before showers became commonplace in homes, which is only in the last 30 years or so, people did not have a bath daily, nor did they walk around stinking either.

Women who are having a period also do not stink ffs... unless they have poor toilet hygiene or do not change their sanitary ware regularly...

If you wipe yourself thoroughly everytime you go to the loo, no matter what time of the month, and change your underwear daily, then you would not smell either.

SlackSally · 23/07/2011 17:54

I don't have a shower at my house, so have to have baths, which take much longer than two minutes.

I probably have 4-5 a week during summer. I do NOT smell. I am not a sweaty person, and do not have a particularly physical job. I also change clothes regularly.

I hate how some people seem to see fit to make moral judgements on others because they don't think they wash often enough. Some people shower twice a day. Would you be happy for them to call you 'gross'?

I think all the gross-squealers are probably just naturally grimy and sweaty.

Sorry, that was harsh, but people who walk around all day sitting on the same blood-soaked pad in summer do revolt me a bit, I'm afraid. It does smell and it is not hard to change pads/tampons regularly really, is it?!

FabbyChic · 23/07/2011 18:04

Considering some bath only once a week three times is not bad.

catgirl1976 · 23/07/2011 18:05

YANBU - I shower everyday and have a bath most nights. Don't get people who can leave the house without a shower. Personal choice and up to them and all that but not for me. Eeeeewwwwww

pink4ever · 23/07/2011 18:06

LRD-best not to sit any where near me as I only bathe twice a week. Shower broken and as dont have time to have a bath every day-or at least not with out 3 dcs jumping in!. I dont smell-always clean my face and wash my bits if am feeling sweaty.

ApocalypseCheeseToastie · 23/07/2011 18:06

Think it depends from person to person tbh, I don't really get whiffy BO often because I don't move enough to build up a sweat (usually shower daily tho ) my sis OTOH is a skinny minnie but gets the most awful BO it makes me feel nauseous. Gawd knows what it'd be like if she didn't shower daily !

YouWithTheFace · 23/07/2011 18:07

Wow, it didn't even occur to me that showering/bathing every day was negotiable! But then I grew up in a hot country, where it's pretty normal to at least rinse off twice a day in summer if you have the resources, and pretty essential to wash humid areas every day.

ApocalypseCheeseToastie · 23/07/2011 18:11

I don't wash hair daily tho, it makes it greasy as hell. But a quick dive under water wakes me up and is probably quicker than a wash tbh

michelleseashell · 23/07/2011 18:13

I have a tiny baby and only get a chance to shower three times a week. I hate it. I feel like a grubby grotbag.

I do shower each morning + bath most nights. Hair every other day / leave it up to three days occasionally. Hairwash day is also shave legs and fanjo day (unless I am going out - then there might be an extra go). Pits get shaved every day. Full body mositurise every evening. Full body exfoliate once a week. Am 6 months pg and am wondering when it is going to get too hard to do my legs and if I dare brave waxing at that point.

LRDTheFeministNutcase · 23/07/2011 18:16

pink - think you mean someone else? I didn't comment on showering that often. I commented in reply to someone saying you automatically stink if you're on your period. That is not to do with showering, is it?

I actually think that because we as a society have easy access to showers and to anti-perspirants and to cheap clothes, some people develop pretty nasty or even unhealthy habits because they can get away with them. Back in the day they would have ruined clothes they couldn't afford to replace by stinking them up. For example, my gran didn't have a shower, and bathed a couple of times a week, but always smelt clean and fresh. My little cousin OTOH has some habits that are verging on unhealthy. Eg., she showers every morning but when she had to borrow some tampax off me on holiday I discovered she wears the same one until the blood spots out of it (TMI, sorry), which can be 12 hours or more. It is a really revolting habit (and you can get toxic shock syndrome that way), but of course she can easily have a quick wash and spray deodorant to cover the smell, so she doesn't realize why it is an issue.

ThumbsNoseAtSnapewitch · 23/07/2011 18:18

If it's noticeable, then YANBU.
If it's not noticeable and you are just supposing they should conform to your standards, then YABU.

feedthegoat · 23/07/2011 18:19

I don't have bo if I don't shower daily but nor do I feel fresh and clean. So for that reason I would never consider not showering or bathing daily.

And whether it is real or imagined, I do feel grubby when I am on my period. I can't use tampons or a mooncup as I have endometriosis and they increase my pain signifcantly. I change my pad every couple of hours at the most and still feel grubby. I'm happy to only bathe 5 year old ds 5 times a week at moment but can't see problem with adults having a quick daily shower.

OvO · 23/07/2011 18:25

I don't shower/have a bath every day. I don't smell. If I did I have the kind of family that would definitely tell me!

My DC don't have a bath every day either.

hocuspontas · 23/07/2011 18:28

People are so obsessed with bathing! How many of us actually work down the mines? Only then would I say a shower a day is a necessity. We don't all smell. Even if someone has a BO problem a pit wash would be sufficient. I shower every day for work, rarely at weekends unless I'm going out. Camping - hardly ever. No one's commented yet!

emsyj · 23/07/2011 18:31

I have a shower every morning and a bath every night. DH does the same. In the days before the smoking ban I would have a shower and wash my hair before going to bed if I'd been at a pub/club as I could not sleep with the stench of fags on my hair making my pillow smell etc.

It's nice to feel clean and fresh, I can't understand people who choose not to shower/bathe every day. I even have a shower before I take DD to baby swimming! (Shower and wash hair at 7am, then get in the pool at 10am).

Maybe I have a problem! Grin

It takes alot longer than 2 minutes to shower for those of us with extremely dry skin. If you don't want to end up wearing sandpaper it's necessary to cover yourself in moisturiser which can be a lengthy process.

I would ideally like to shower every day but it's not possible to do the whole bloody moisturising routine and get out on time.

catgirl admiration. Even more admiration if you manage to keep that routine up with a new baby Grin .

AnyFucker · 23/07/2011 18:37

I miss a bath/shower the odd day eg. today when I haven't left the house

I wash my hair only twice a week (it is very short and simply does not need washing)

I wash every day though (including bits ), clean my teeth and when menstruating am super-fussy about a good soak at least once a day

I always wash after sex too...the smell of old semen is vile
